South Florida '17- The Safeties

I've seen Billy Gibson around...life probably doesn't end well for him.

I met Billy a few times. He was a good kid. He probably shouldn’t have came to UO. He was a G5 or even an FCS player. On stacked HS teams a lot of players become overrated unfortunately… Taggart also left a lot of those kids hanging especially the kids from Florida. The most productive player of all his Florida signees was the big DT that signed. Other than that most of those kids should not have signed with UO due to cultural and talent level fit.

Goulds - inquiring minds would like to know what trapping is. Thanks in advance

I was on that team those were some dogs that didn’t work out in college. We had jerry jeudy in **** along with other top college kids. Not one of us panned out I took the baseball route lol

Oh really? I thought Jeudy was at Deerfield. I know Gibson went to Southridge. And as for you taking the baseball route, you did what was best for you. It’s hard but sometimes it’s going with the best program for you and not necessarily the big name school. Sounds like that’s what you did. You went with the sport that offered you more opportunities despite being talented in football.

We played Deerfield had Shawn Davis and Antwan collier hitting him any and very play. Ya idk I feel like they just got caught up in the fame and weren’t the same dog/guys after

Career reviews

Daniel Wright - Signed with Alabama. Played special teams as a freshman. Injured in 2018. Played backup duty in 2019. Started every game in 2020. Benched in 2021, relegated to spot duty & special teams.

Amari Carter - Signed with Miami. Part of safety rotation first 2 seasons in Coral Gables. Emerged as starter in 2019 & 2020. Benched in 2021. Wildly inconsistent.

Billy Gibson - Signed with Oregon. Played in spot duty as true freshman. Entered portal, status unknown. Last time I saw him, he had 2 kids & was trapping in Cutler Manor.

Nadarius ***an - Signed with Syracuse. Played sparingly as true freshman. Injury redshirt in 2018. Transferred to FAMU. Played sparingly in 2019 & 2020. Recorded 43 tackles in 2021.

DeWayne Terry - Signed with Dartmouth. Played sparingly as a freshman, started every game at corner in 2018, battled injury in 2019, 2020 season canceled by Ivy League, I can't find Dartmouth's individual defensive stats for 2021.

Naytron Culpepper - Signed with USF. Played sparingly in 2017 & '18. Transferred to Alabama State. Started every game at corner in 2019 & 2021. Opted out of 2020 season.

Brian Edwards - Signed with UF. Played sparingly in '17 and '18. Transferred to Central Michigan after his arrest for choking his girlfriend. Sat out 2019 due to transfer rules, then started 3 games at corner in 2020. Entered the portal again in 2021, current status unclear.

George Hunter - Looks like he was committed to FAU at one point, but never signed or enrolled. Current status unclear.

***an and ***ot were two names we laughed about a lot. But I thought they both were high quality football players and should have been Canes. I'm with Lauder, I never saw much in Edwards. I did like CJ a lot, though, was super bummed when he flipped. Don't recall Terry, but almost anyone getting an Ivy League education ends up improving their station in life.

I was big on CJ too

Carter probably had the best career and definitely was a great citizen. Targetings aside he was the best.

I can't believe how excited I am to watch our current crop of 'Canes play this fall & how excited I am about this 2017 class. I'm not sure the future has ever been as bright.
I felt the same way 6 years ago coming off that bowl win vs WV. Crazy to think how much more optimistic things are right now.

Is Antwan related to Corey Collier?

All these reviews of past classes and there were tons of players that didn't do squat.

Little surprising all these South Florida non factors.

One thing to note is that these are pre-spring, pre-camp watch lists. If we did them closer to NSD, they would look a lot different. Players get exposed, develop late, get in trouble, and overall you just have a much clearer picture.
