South Florida is overflowing with talent, and this year that talent is well-distributed. I can't remember better QB or OL classes. Wide receiver and defensive back are loaded as usual, and there is good depth in the front seven. The only weak position is running back.

Mark Richt has the opportunity to build the foundation of his first class without leaving the region.

There are good players in the region. But there are players like Trey Blount outside the region that we need to pursue as well

Agreed but we should leave the region for difference-makers only. Build the foundation locally.

That seems to be accurate. D$ in light of your observation on the general strength of the RB class, where do rate Burns and Thompson as RB prospects?

I hear what you are saying. But if there is a guy who is better or slightly above the local guys, and he is from OOS, we should give them a look. Most of the class will be from the area and state.

He already said that. You're saying the same thing and then acting like you're makin a new point.

I agree with both of your statements but if there is a 5* athlete out of the country OOC, we should get a Visa and visit the kid. Many of the kids will still be from the U.S. and Puerto Rico though.

Good post. I think QB James Blackman is an excellent prospect considering he's playing in a similar offense that we will run. Not to mention he's get it done.

A lot of Miami's best players ever are not from south Florida or are from out of state. We definitely need to recruit the elite recruits no matter where they are from. Florida should still be 70-75% of the class and the rest should be the elite oos recruits

I think each class should be approx. 75%-80% in state and specifically tri-county area. 3 - 5 players a year might come from out of state. We should never have to leave the area for skill position players. We should also be able to get the majority of our OL/DL from the tri-county area. Elite recruits, QBs, and other "can't miss" guys are the only ones you leave the area for. Winning consistently gives you the ability to have these options.

We need to own the state of Florida. The economy has changed and pushed a lot of good talent to the Bay Area, Orlando, and J-ville. We can't walk around with blinders on thinking we just need to keep the fence in south Florida. We need to own the state like FSU and Florida. We have to let those two teams know who's boss again.

The State Is Ours!!!

No one said that isn't the strategy. Why are people creating this debate?

I know this is a contrarian position but I haven't seen it made... One of the biggest reasons we need to lock down SoFla isn't because that's where the best talent comes from - though it is. It's because we want the best players; the Dalvin Cooks, the Amari Coopers, the Patrick Petersons to stay home and rep the U. If we go too heavily OOS then those local stars will think U-Miami doesn't care about SoFla and their best option is go elsewhere.

Thats fine but tell the kids this, make sure they understand as well.

They cant go anywhere else if they are targeted by us.

I think a team like Miami allows itself to be divided within the recruiting game when it says, "We are going to put a fence around SoFl" publicly. That right there kills you. Today these statements causes an unconscious division between Miami's Recruiters and top prospects outside Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Believe it or not, it plays right into, "UM favors local kids more" which causes kids from outside those counties to look else where first and develop a little hate for our program. And then you wonder how come a kid like JC would choose Florida first over Miami when Immok is right next door and around the corner.

The state of Miami aka putting a fence around south Florida: is the entire area from I-4 south to the keys which includes Collier County ( that is where JC Jackson is from). Find a map and you will this area produces the most FBS players in the country. Miami's tradition was built with these players. Every program says publicly they need to win the battle for recruits in their backyard then supplement from Out of State.
