South Carolina Post Game Plus/Minus

I wish reporters would counter his endless pathetic excuses ("too many night games", "the wind", etc.) with the same incredulous look and "are you kidding me?" that Al gave back at his first press conference. just over and over and over again.

The BoT have to be ****ed. They needed this incompetent ******* to carry water for one game to get to 7-6 and validate the hashtag propaganda they put out and this silly **** can't even manage that. He got more legit NFL talent then the Jaguar's have had in the last decade and with Al's leadership = 6-7.

Owl Golden is hot garbage.

Canes suck. Players are trash, coaches are trash administration is trash. 2015 is going to be catastrophic if Golden is at the helm. BOT doesn't give a **** about you or your donations or ticket sales. You better be prepared for a toxic, cancerous season. It will make FAU look like Champs. Willie Taggart has more balls than golden. Kids don't even consider the U with these clowns in charge.

just read that Al Golden brought up the wind in the post game press conference.

probably said thats the reason we missed the field goal, then went on to say how Bagley ****ed up and misjudged the direction he should have kicked, but then said that it's his fault for not preparing him enough, and that ultimately it's his job to get them ready, but then said how much they improved, especially since we've had such a hard schedule and so many night games.
USC also missed a FG that was a wash. I am really starting to hate the guy. Shannon was bad but I never felt ill will towards him.

They missed two field goals.

The most amazing part of all this, IMO, is that this isn't rock bottom.

The next 12 months will represent a whole new level of rock bottom. Recruiting will fall off a cliff even more than it already has, we all know the on-field product will continue to be an abomination, and there is simply no hope for this program.

It's impossible to put into words just how much damage this administration is doing to UM football by retaining Golden.

Agree, sad state of affairs

I don't ever want to hear another kind word about Donna Shalala's stewardship of this university ever again.

For all the work she put in to raise our academic standing, she has made several catastrophic business decisions, specifically in medicine and our flagship sports program.

Her inability to hire the right AD to hire the right coaches has ruined our reputation as a football power, and is costing the school untold millions of dollars a year in lost revenues from ticket sales, concessions and apparel sales. The attendance figures for 2015 are going to be the worst we've seen since the 70s, and we won't have an FSU game to help perk that up. ESPN is already embarrassed enough for our broadcasts that they do everything possible to never show shots of the crowd at Son Life, but they won't be able to hide the tens of thousands of orange fans masquerading as seats that's coming next year.

So, sincerely, thanks for your 14 years of service, but **** right off into retirement and don't look back. You're the worst thing that's ever happened to this program. I hate you.

Regards,

DCF in LA

* More competitive than I expected. The greatest plus of this game, obviously, was the enormous money making potential. Once the line was somehow bet to Miami -3.5 I was shaking in anticipation for the past two weeks. I thought it was a bargain at South Carolina pick-em, as I posted. Once it moved to Canes -3.5 that meant it shifted to one of the most favorable betting scenarios imaginable, my prized system -- a preseason Top 10 team as bowl underdog to a preseason unranked team. The sample size is so scant it's difficult to assess percentages. I would estimate South Carolina carried at least a 75% cover expectancy at +3.5. This didn't equal LSU +4.5 in the Peach Bowl against Georgia Tech several years ago but it was in the same ultra rare neighborhood. I really thought South Carolina would prevail by double digits, roughly their halftime margin.

* I'm sure next season a preseason Top 10 team will similarly flop in September and be mocked here, like South Carolina's lopsided season opening loss to Texas A&M. I would like to thank those posters in advance. There's nothing more clever than ranting at the most recent result while totally oblivious to the big picture and how to apply it in your favor. Long live the Bar Stool mind.

* This game did feature one of the most hilarious plays I'm aware of. I replayed it so many times I was in a seizure of laughter, and nearly 15 minutes behind the game itself once I recovered sufficiently. At roughly 6:30 remaining in the second quarter, check out the tippy toe pass rush of Michael Wyche. The snap was from the Canes 40 and the pass play deep down the left sideline went out of bounds on our 5. Wyche's effort on that play should be legendary. I'll certainly never forget it. Anyone who retains a tape of the game will see what I mean. Now, there's no question we are badly underachieving. But anyone who disputes the ineptitude of our personnel at such a vital position like defensive tackle, in comparison to the glory years, is kidding themselves to the extreme. Michael Wyche is actually playing meaningful snaps in a bowl game for the Miami Hurricanes. Unbelievable.

* The postgame radio rant on WQAM was apropos: Gap control defensive line combined with soft zone coverage. You're basically encouraging the opposing offense to take a game-long breather, with little concern about anything other than their own execution. This was one of the worst examples. It felt like a competent offense would have shattered our secondary for one waltzing touchdown after another.

* When our kicker booms one deep into the end zone, obviously there's a severe wind bias. I don't think the announcers ever mentioned it. Normally our kickoffs struggle to budge beyond the 5 yard line. Left to right on the screen was the edge. Immediately I sensed that which team took fullest advantage would likely prevail. The Canes were overly cautious in the first quarter, even though I generally like rushing attempts to set the tempo. We needed to take shots downfield with that wind benefit. Once Miami led only 3-0 after the first quarter it felt like that was a fail. South Carolina attacked with deep balls with the wind in the second quarter, owning that quarter 17-3. That proved to be pivotal. The Canes admirably won the third quarter 8-0 against the wind but again didn't exploit the edge in the 4th, deadlocked at 7-7. Notice that Spurrier took a deep shot with 1:30 remaining in the third quarter, after Miami pulled to 17-14. That was desperation to steal something big before he lost the wind at his back.

* Kaaya again looked relaxed and confident when things were going well, but found the happy feet and tense inaccuracy for too much of the second and third quarters when South Carolina was controlling the game. Perhaps Kaaya will shake that tendency early next season and it will never be show up again. Right now it's a legitimate concern. Others here picked up on it before I did.

* I can't imagine there's much else to discuss in the next few months. I'll follow recruiting in the final days but I know how that will work out: We'll lose guys late and then make fanciful projections of stealing freak guys who are committed elsewhere. Again, I prefer the big picture. We can't dominate recruiting with a bland off-campus stadium with no atmosphere. Some kids won't care but others can sense what it's like to run out of that smoke when it no longer means anything, and those downtown buildings and gorgeous beach and sunset are dozens of miles away. It was beyond sickening to watch the opening segment of that Miami Beach Bowl telecast, to see everything that we stupidly gave away.

The main reason I don't get overly carried away at the results of either the Canes or Dolphins is that I'm convinced neither team will win anything of significance as long as it plays in Sun Life Stadium, regardless of how many billions are spent on patchwork. When we get a prized recruit or coach or whatever, it's hardly a full 1 to 1 payoff. In the Orange Bowl you could take that same guy and multiply by 1.07 or 1.10. That's the return he would bring. Bonus interest. In Sun Life the multiplier is closer to .90 or .93. Steady devastating drain. Lots of betting opportunities on the opponent, when it matters.

I still have the game DVR'd and went back to look. :ibis-roflmao-sm3: Tippy-toe doesn't do it justice. I swear that he is tipping around a pre-determined line to "get to the quarterback". I was laughing for the next 5 minutes and then had to watch it again because I couldn't believe a high school player would do this much less a D1 player.

As bad as this coaching staff is, I never in my life would have thought things would have got to this point. SMDH.

I just had to go back and watch. Wow, just wow.

Also love that this is the point in the game where Andre aware says he asked Doritos if they would put their best cover guy on Pharroh and he said nah, we are just going to play our defense. 190 yards later he is still open.

I'm watching it right now
