Sources: Rumph not expected to be retained on staff

After another disappointing loss for the Miami Hurricanes, it seems head coach Manny Diaz's staff could be getting quite the makeover during the offseason.

Multiple program sources have told CanesInSight that Hurricanes' cornerbacks coach Mike Rumph is not expected to be retained on Diaz's staff going into 2020.

This news follows a report yesterday from the AP's Tim Reynolds that offensive coordinator and QB coach Dan Enos is also not expected back on staff next season.

The Canes finished an underwhelming 2019 season on Thursday amid a ton of questions about the future of the program. After being shut out by Louisiana Tech 14-0 in the Independence Bowl and ending the year at 6-7, Athletic Director Blake James released a statement late last night on his Twitter account backing Diaz, adding that he expects changes to be made within the program.

"Manny Diaz is the right leader for our program, but clearly changes are necessary and expected," James said. "Manny is in the process of making a full assessment of the football program, including coaches and staff."

As for Rumph, he has spent the last 4 seasons coaching the UM cornerbacks. A member of the Hurricanes’ 2001 national championship team, Rumph returned to his alma mater in 2016 after spending the previous three seasons as the head coach at American Heritage High School.

If rumph is getting the axe, Diaz butt buddies better not be safe either i know that....No one should be allowed to keep their job after this season, not even rumph and I have been an vocal rumph defender but it is what it is. They can’t use rumph as a scapegoat though because if they do that’s absolutely fvcked up and I would Lose a lot of respect for the school

I don't agree here at all. He coaches almost nobody and recruits nobody. His position is historically for an ace recruiter. Patke doesn't do ****.

Get a dedicated ST coach who can recruit his *** off.

People on here vaguely protecting Rumph smh. Dude might be the worse recruiter in the history of the program. Yea i think more should go but Banda is a better recruiter than Rumph clearly.

How so? Banda has more then his fair share of misses. Both (Rumph and Banda) aren't Miami quality coaches.

I will continue to say until he is fired...Patke is the worst one to have on this staff. He brings absolutely nothing to the table.

Defense had plenty of issues.
I don't care if Rumph is retained but if he is the only one shown the door...them it's BEYOND obvious manny is protecting his buddies.

As the official leader of the “Rumph/Banda” bandwagon I can’t defend them. While I still think they are good developers of talent, when you go 6-7 you better be nervous about keeping your job. That said, there needs to be ALOT of other coaches on this staff fired. He shouldn’t have been the first. That’s for **** sure.
