After struggling to move Savannah State’s DL, we brought in Gaynor as RG with the first team. He stayed at guard with the 2s and Mahoney moved to center.

Gaynor was exclusively a center in camp. This tells me the coaches recognize the issues at guard and want to improve our physicality.

tried to warn everyone Jasir wasn't going to get it done.

Was this not an issue identified in camp? I remember Richt saying he was comfortable with the starting OL now. Has that changed?

Seems to be a lack of meanness in the line. Also they play high (rears up too much) and let the d-linemen get under them...lack of a real push when the going gets tough at times.

Glad you brought this up! I was at game and noticed that.

I didn't key in much on the OL because I was watching the QBs, and couldn't rewind because I was streaming. But I did see Boulware with a terrible misblock, reminded me of Darling last year. And I'm a Boulware fan. If he played like that in other snaps, he's not the answer to replacing Jones. Gotta bring in Gaynor or Reed. May be overreacting, but it wasn't a good look.

It’s gonna take a whole lot more than that to improve our physicality

Reed must not not be ready yet mentally because physically no one can tell me he isn’t better than someone like Jones or Mahoney. Need an OL of St. Louis - Reed - Gaynor - Donaldson - Scaife. If we can’t move anyone with that OL, then we’re ****ed.

My only issue with Gaynor at the moment is size. Its easy to look good when you, as an OL, outweigh the man opposite from you by a good 20 pounds.

His HS tape and in limited action, I've liked him in flashes. I am just not sure what we'll get from Gaynor with a full workload against lineman that are bigger than him.

The team needs series help at guard, so this can't hurt.

That one was what freaked me out, him being here ten years then starting was more a bad sign. This staff needs to do better evaluating, rather than trusting the older guys.
They need ball players that want it.......they have been trying to be psychologist and talk guys up to play at D-1 level...that is a 3 ring flop.

Looking bigger or actually bigger? Unless they have "fudged" the weigh numbers he is supposed to weight 305 pounds.

I'm always hesitant to trust ht/wt numbers from a team site. He looks a bit bigger. Need to see if it translates. Savannah State isn't a place to judge that. He's much more aggressive than Mahoney and Jones, which is all we likely needed v. Savannah State.

It is a valid point. Coaches mentioned several times they were not mixing in Gaynor at G this camp because they want him focused on being the next center. But time is now and this OL needs to be fixed and fixed now. So if Gaynor to G is going to help then got to go that route and worry about C next year.
