Some thoughts on the Clemson game...

Hey, I felt what I felt lol

But my view is that Im not judging by the standard of beating any ACC team (to me, that should be a given) but stretches of play like that last portion of the second quarter will get you beat by a better team, or at least put you in more danger.

The one things I learned from last nights game is that with Mario, our DL will look, or try to look, like a ferocious and relentless unit that just goes in waves

The tenacious line play on both sides always gives us a chance and our opponents hate it

Congdon’s presence definitely helped.

I want this offense to be able to put forth a full 4th qtr game. For a variety of reasons, some that have already been said - but don’t need the offense to disappear for swaths of the game

And injuries aside….play calling
Going for it on 4th down…with a run between the guards that failed that gave Clemson great field position was just ridiculous. Just punt the ball there.

3rd and 6 - in the second half. Miami chooses to run it up the middle…didn’t come close to a 1st down. Why can’t Mensah throw the ball….there
COgden was an animal out there yesterday. We have our answer at guard with him.

If Clemson had an OL they would be a top-20 team. Big problem for them is playing a true freshman RT who wasn't ready for grown man strength.

That QB is nice. He's a true freshman and has balls the size of basketballs. They're really constrained on offense because when space gets short in the red zone he doesn't have the accuracy and processing speed to consistently finish drives right now, but that kid will be a future problem for teams.

Clemson WR's are nice. Big, strong, tough. On a fade ball they were an inch from TD and going in 17-10.

Ashton Hampton wasn't specifically matched with Toney often, but he won his matchup when they were. That kid is legit legit. The 4th down play against Toney was lowkey special.

I'll have a lot of thoughts on Miami when I write this one up, but Mensah is playing QB on a level that is going to be talked about on par with anyone this school has seen if he continues the whole season.
Really? Seemed like Hampton was on Toney all night to me

15,000 cars, my friend. It’s not easy and it comes with challenges But it’s time to hit that goal and get our raises!

Yea, I don't know if we have a lot of slow developing plays but he holds the ball like Cam used to. I think he could have checked down a lot more than he did in this game.

He's like a second slow on his scrambles. Once he adjusts, defensive coordinators will be pulling the rest of their hair out.

Alright, got a good nights sleep after a long day in Death Valley/Clemson and the drive back-and-forth to Atlanta. Despite the week long forecasts, there wasn't a drop of rain on game day out there. Miami came out on top of the Tigers, 41-13 in their storm troopers gear. Some thoughts on the game..

- I don't think I've ever looked forward to a bye week as now. Miami is the walking wounded. Once again key players (Lightfoot, McCoy, O'Conner) were nicked up. They need to re-set physically as they go into FSU week.

A lot of young players like Ryan Mack are getting key reps now. If this team can get healthy down the stretch they will have some real depth to it

- Miami started off fast and at 17-3 it looked like it would be an early blowout. The last half of the second quarter was frustrating, a lot of little things collectively were big. From not converting on 3 and 1, the procedure penalty that wiped out Malachi Toney's touchdown down the seam (his second career TD that has been taken off the board due to that kind of infraction) , to not getting off the field defensively on 3rd and 16 near halftime as Clemson was pinned deep on their side of the field.

They were up 17-6, but it felt like the game should've been 31-3 at the half.

- Dylan Joyce I think had one of his better games punting. He nailed a few that flipped the field.

- No more questions about Damon Wilson, every week he's getting better and more disruptive on every series. If Im not mistaken, there was a missed holding call on Clemson's opening drive on 3rd down.

- Omar Thorton is a hard hitter, but an unreliable tackler out in space. It may be time to just pare down what he does. He had two misses that led to about 60 yards for Clemson. Sometimes the difference between a good play on this side of the ball, and one that gives up 50 yards is one guy not making a routine play

- Tait Reynolds was pretty gutty. Maybe they had no choice, till the very end of the game, Clemson had less than 30 yards rushing. Reynolds threw for 295 but it took 44 attempts. There was a lot of quick, horizontal throws. I wonder if the Miami corners like OJ Fredrique and X-Lucas were available if Cory Hetherman would be more aggressive on the back end and have them press. '

His unit bent a bit, but given the circumstances they played well

- As for Clemson, I think it's fair to say that they may have the best pair of WR"s and corners that Miami will face in the ACC. They don't have nearly the overall talent they had but those two units have future NFL guys.

- Running game was strong at the end. At 27-13 after Clemson's touchdown, Miami chewed up about 6 minutes and pounded the rock down field to salt the game away. Mark Fletcher was the closer. It was a good sign. But take away Darien Mensah's touchdown scramble (and his other two rushes), Miami rushed for 165 yards on 32 carries (which also includes a Toney 19 yard end-around).

So while some progress was made upfront, a lot can be improved upon. I noticed Ben Congdon getting a lot of snaps last night.

- So Miami is 5-0 and they have won three ACC road games. I just hope this team can get healthier for the stretch run.

0 was struggling with every aspect- tackling, coverage, you name it; he surrendered multiple explosives. Very disappointed in his play so far this season. I can't imagine they will put up with this much longer. He is literally playing himself out of the rotation.

Yeah not gonna lie he was probably the best player for Clemson…. Second being #12 watsco? I believe.. kinda reminded me of AR a bit big WR with sneaky good speed.
Hampton is the best cb we will face. Matter of fact both of clemson cbs are top 3 rd types. @Lance Roffers

Hampton is my fav cb to watch coverage wise. How fsu let him out of tally i dont ****** know lol

Clemson hasnt been able to find OL and rb game along with a qb that would be consistent.; They have a ton of talent at certain skills spots. Their best dl what do u know is a transfer.

To me, one of the most impressive things about that game was seeing so many different players grow into their roles and play some of their best football to date. The punter, the kicker, linebackers, defensive ends, running backs, wide receivers o line, at almost every position you had a guy that had his best game of the year.
That’s not to say everyone was perfect. It’s just to say the continuous improvement lends itself to a bright future.

Word. And given how poor our punt coverage had been to date, I think your callout of the punter is on point. He did a very good job last night minimizing return opportunities.
