This was the best performance of the season. But for the rest of the year, we're on a tightrope with no net. So while vibes are high right now, there's still a ton of work ahead. Here are some thoughts on the weekend before moving onto Blacksburg.

- Girard Pringle is exactly what this running game needed. He's really fast (10.56 100M), but he also runs with a decisive one-cut style that keeps the offense on schedule. He was a workhorse at Armwood with 30+ carry games, so he's capable...

Maybe we can have someone in media ask Shannon why he doesnt run traditional RB slip screen in his three years here and then he can get rustled or bristle a lil, deny then take note and run it in game to get Pringle some passes.. RB screens are great ways to get touches, also angle routes is another, we run mesh a ton so rail routes attached to mesh would make sense too.. But yes I dont understand how we never ran traditional RB screen since he has been here.

Also Note that 10.56 track time is his junior time, which means if he would have run his senior year (he enrolled early) he would have definitely hit atleast 10.3 in 100m with a normal teen progression in a track season. Which means he got real deal #Verified SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED. :u5pyxda:

Slip screens aren’t physical

Amazing what happens when you utilize space. We were using the edges and spreading the defense out instead bunch formations every single play.
I'd like to see the same approach against better defenses. This was a very bad defense. Let's not get tight when things get tight or we want to latch on to control, which has seemingly been our default.

This is an extremely talented team with a defense that might be our most dominant since the early 2000s

The elephant in the room, is the disappointment again if we don’t make the playoffs

That would be back to back years wasting the #1 overall pick and the most fun offense we’ve seen in years, and this year would be wasting a championship caliber defense

Lets hope we win out and get lucky

- The post-spring Portal season (RIP) was a massive hit for us. Jakobe Thomas and Keionte Scott look like first-team All-ACC players, Keelan Marion keeps getting better, Marty Brown is playing a consistent role and Mo Toure is a key part in our elite run defense. Everybody talks about evaluation out of high school, but it's just as important in the Portal and the staff did an excellent job this year.
Another thing they did a great job with was deciding who to pay and who to let walk on last year’s then current roster.

It’s not just roster building these days, it’s retention. Letting Patterson walk and getting Thomas (for probably half the cost) looks genius. Horton is nice, but Marion for half (?) also looks nice. But Samson and our 5-star DLmen are still here content to play backup roles.

That’s how you build it out, and Mario is doing a **** of a job there. We all knew before he came here he stinks on game day, and boy does he stink on game day. But there’s dudes on this roster at all position groups and the young talent has me excited for the future.

So Pringle didn't show any of this in practice? Just thinking out loud.

NC State's defense: 92nd in the country in yards per carry allowed
Syracuse's defense: 107th in the country in yards per carry allowed

Not taking anything away from Pringle. He does look quicker than the other kids, for sure. But Marty Brown averaged 5.6 a carry on Saturday too. Hellcat averaged 6.4 a carry.

But IMO it's nowhere near fair to watch 2 games against high school teams and go berserk that so and so should've been starting all along. This is about the time of the year when true freshmen usually start to become fully acclimated. So he looks great, but let's have some perspective.

My guess is he did... but with young RBs pass protection is always an issue getting them on the field early.

Then if you think about it when would you play em? you likely dont throw him out against ND, Lyle and Fletch were the clear top guys and Brown came on strong, then he plays against Bethune, plays against USF and gets hurt, then is out until Stanford like 3 weeks ago. Had a decent game the following week against Syracuse and had his best game so far this last week.
