OP they do read emails, but with all due respect it is their bleeping job to raise the money for a stadium and solicit those funds from donors. Why should donors have to seek out the school? Did you read the recent article about the latest stage 2 fundraising campaign? The goal is 1.6 billion dollars. 1.25 billion has been raised. As Mr. Posh Spice himself is demonstrating, county land is there for a stadium or a multi-use facility stadium that would serve academic/athletic purpose (see Doak Campbell Stadium which houses many FSU classrooms and the career development center). The fact remains, the powers at be at UM are not committed to raising SIGNIFICANT FUNDS for athletics for fear those efforts will retract from other donations towards the medical school and medical research. We are U Health, vamos fighting stethoscopes.

What a load of crap.

You seem to gloss over the fact that FSU is a state school, and as such received significant state funding for the renovations to Doak Campbell stadium in the 90s which modified the stadium facade into classroom and administrative office space. Without that state funding, Doak would still be an erector set of a stadium.

As a private school, UM is not eligible to receive such state funding, of course. Most students and alumni don't care about football--they donate their money to the academic side, not to athletics. And fans never show up to games...they didn't show up to games in the OB, and they don't show up now...so there's no reason to believe that attendance would be any better if we sunk tons of money into building our own stadium.

Which is precisely why our only hope is for something like this MLS stadium, which would be built and financed by private individuals like Beckham and wouldn't depend on donations from our crappy fan base.

Beckham group ideally wanted a 45k seat stadium so they could host other large events. MLS wants 25k at the port site. Very interested to see how this shakes out. May be a once in a generation opportunity. Hopefull the University flexes its muscle and makes this happen.
 
If the MLS allows Miami soccer to have a 45K plus stadium, UM MUST jump aboard.

it will be the closest thing to an on campus stadium for us.

/I'm not giving anything again until they address Dorito or Golden's D scheme.

Definitely agree with the fact that it isn't an opportunity that might come again any time remotely soon. If the Beckham group is truly footing the bill themselves then they would have to be thinking about consistent revenue from the site. I can't imagine a bigger stream coming in for them than a UM football schedule.
 
Stanford downsized from 80k to 50k made a huge difference in atmosphere.Ticket sales went up. . They built 50k a stadium on 18.4 acres. Miami-Dade County is providing 25 acres. I hope the university takes this opportunity to get us involved with Beckham and the stadium in whatever capacity. THis will be great for the "U"

Also, what they said is that they have private financing worked out--- perhaps UM is contributing?

No offense Ackcane, but coaches (and their shcemes) come and go, this is a chance to create something lasting for the U regardless of who the coach is. If they get on board I am ready to give, and I would encourage everyone else who loves the U to do the same.

Shalala, the dumbass, will find a way to **** this up again. This is about as good as its going to get for UM to move out of NoLife Stadium. GET ON IT.

I will most definitely donate if they jump along with Beckham and this stupid soccer idea.

Don't see the problem with Sun Life, other than parking. Its the fans thats the problem, and moving to a soccer stadium isn't going to fix that.

Stanford had the same problem with their 80,000 stadium as us. Competing with other activities in an urban market , smaller attendance average in a huge stadium. The capacity of the new Stanford stadium is approximately 50,000 seats The reduction in capacity was a strategic decision by Stanford's Athletics Program to boost season ticket sales and create a more intimate playing atmosphere. Trust me , there pretty smart at Stanford . It's not the fans. We play in the 5th largest stadium in the NFL

No offense Ackcane, but coaches (and their shcemes) come and go, this is a chance to create something lasting for the U regardless of who the coach is. If they get on board I am ready to give, and I would encourage everyone else who loves the U to do the same.

This is a top quality post!

What ever our beef's are with the current staff. This would not be the time to withhold donations if they were asked for to help finance the MLS/Canes stadium. We won't get another chance like this for a generation or two.

That pic of Mighty Mouse and Becks speaks volumes.

Just throwing this out for the **** of it...what if/has anybody thrown out the idea of a smaller, more modern "Orange Bowl" design. It was a huge part of the city for years and hosted some great events with a great atmosphere.
