Soccer stadium

I already sent James a letter, donated to the Victory fund, and promised more financial support for anything that gets us out of NoLife

Its also very feasable...You'd want a lower deck that sat around 30K for soccer, an upper deck that sat about 15K more on the home side of the field that you'd use for football, and the ability to bring in endzone bleachers for expansion seating. You'd have a stadium perfect for both soccer and UM football.

UM could also play once a year at NoLife as well, for the annual 'Big Game,' that we actually sell lots of tickets to.

Soccer in Miami is the dumbest Idea ever. Nobodys goin to dat **** meng. We can't get them to baseball games in the heart of the city for dirt cheap, and Cuban people love beisbol!

Miami is a bandwagon town, full of bandwagon people. The locals don't know any better, as a huge percentage of them are first and second generation immigrants and the culture of supporting a team isn't as engrained in them as in towns like Boston and Cleveland, where the family has been doing it for 100 some odd years.

if we get a new stadium it should be in the 45-55k range. for everyone saying that 25k is fine if we were to somehow get in on beckham's stadium deal, you have to consider that around 10k will be allocated for students and that leaves 10k for everyone else. we normally sell around 20k season ticket packages alone. an mls stadium will not remotely cover that.

Miami is full of soccer fans. Just look at the 2010 World Cup ratings. Biggest in the entire country. Ignorance is bliss.

Anyone who is dismissing this is basing it off of pure speculation.

I know the AD is working on it. Looking for solutions and wants to make it happen.

Not saying its going to get done but we are very much working on it....

Can I get excited now?

Solid attempt however Seattle is a terrible example. Look at the rest of the MLS attendance figures and you'll see there are a handful of teams that average over 20k a game and even then it's right around 20k, not 30k. Therefore every new stadium hovers around 20k-30k in capacity. I predict Miami will be on the bigger side but not big enough to host our games.

Also, Century Link field is a terrible example. It was designed with the NFL in mind. Why do you think the US team has only played there once? You don't think they'd want to play in front of those fans every **** game? It's because of the turf they installed. It's not suitable for soccer. FIFA does not like hosting games on anything but natural grass.

Im all for it though man. I ****ing hate SLS. I live in Arizona and it pains me to watch our games in that ****hole of a stadium. I just don't want fans to get hopeful only to be disappointed.

What you are missing about Seattle is that there is an upper deck that is football only. It is still intimate for soccer. The max for soccer is 39k, and the max for football is 67k I believe. Ours doesn't need to be as big. It could be max 30K for soccer and 50K for football. And actually they have played plenty of FIFA matches there. In fact, its desirable to have a facility that is designed for soccer that has capacity for big games, especially in Miami. If you had a Colombia-Argentina friendly in Miami that would do insanely well.

The turf issue is entirely separate. I don't see why we wouldn't do grass for ours. Turf would suck for UM football.

I don't disagree that there are stumbling blocks, but this represents our best chance in a long time. It's no secret that UM was really bummed that the SunLife renovations fell through. I think they are pushing for this hard. Not a sure thing by any stretch, but it's worth keeping an eye on because there is a lot of smoke on this one...

If you guys want a new stadium (which Mr. James wants to), pls email him and Jesse Marks and offer to donate money for it. With the new MLS stadium, this is our opportunity.

Note for those who have emailed in the past re: Golden or NoDforU, they usually only respond to season ticket holders or donors since they are aware of trolls as we are.

They do read all if the emails.

Go canes!

Lmao!

NoDforU. LOL! Well done.

I believe you. James wouldn't have publicly commented on the stadium if there wasn't serious interest.

This is the dumbest **** I've hear. Are you serious? As big of a city that Miami is with a South American influx to not have a successful soccer team? Camaan bro. Wake up.

if memory serves, Alabama had the home win streak record before we broke it.
the way they reached the number was by only counting wins at the smaller of TWO stadia they used.
big games (against presumably tougher opponents) were held at bigger venue.
can't we play most games at a beautiful intimate stadium on the bay. actually enjoy games.
save joe robie for fsu, big oos opponents when it will be full?
not ideal but not bad.

Once again, MLS wants a soccer specific stadium. They will not allow them to share the stadium with another sport. Even then it's going to fit around 20k with a chance of expanding to maybe 30k years down the road. I'm talking many many years down the road.

It will not happen. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Yes...just like the seattle sounders right???

Yes they have an amazing stadium but again the main focus is NFL. It was also built before the MLS actually got their head out of their *** and realized they need to rethink their strategy. The MLS will not let a team build a 50k capacity stadium because it will be at 50% capacity every week and that's only if Miami has the 2nd best attendance figures in thhe league.

It's definitely the best shot we have but I still stand by this not happening. Wishful thinking.

Again, that's one team. It's the outlier. Do your research and then you'll understand.

These pictures look so awesome. Something like this would look even better in Miami.

Miami is full of baseball fans too. **** Miami is full of football fans. Hows that workin out? Who cares about Tv ratings.

People in Miami are either too stupid or feel too important in their own little melodrama to support local community. Thats why attendance is low. Thats why the performing arts suffer. Thats why bands don't even come to South Florida on their tours. Is what it is. They support a winner and will show up come playoff time but the fans dont understand. Which sucks too, because for how young it is, Miami has been a title town the past 15-20 years.

I think Sun Life is better than some port of Miami soccer stadium because its close to Broward, so more people can come. Plus, I cant imagine some port of Miami stadium would have any better a parking situation, plus the traffic would probably be atrocious.
