So Who Are We Hiring to Coach Special Teams???

Our special teams (and our program in general) has not been the same since Soldy got unjustly canned by Elmer Fudd in 2005. Soldinger is obviously not an option as he is old as dirt.

According to football scoop, the following are the top PAID STCs in the country:

1. Bob Gregory, Washington — $550,000
2. Larry Porter, Auburn — $525,000
3. Chris Partridge, Michigan — $500,000
4. Danny Pearman, Clemson — $480,000
5. Jovan Dewitt, Nebraska — $475,000
5. Coleman Hutzler, South Carolina — $475,000
7. James Shibest, Virginia Tech — $445,000
8. Mark Staten, Michigan State — $438,000
9. Jay Boulware, Oklahoma — $435,000
10. Jeff Banks, Alabama — $434,000

Schedule strength is represented by each team's average per possession special teams opponent adjustment (SOA). Our punt return game was OK, but I don't think we ran one all the way back IIRC. The kickers looked like they were coaching themselves. And we could definitely improve returning kickoffs.

Friend, that is a misleading stat. We were actually ranked 113 in kickoff return D (average yards per kick returned against us). In light of our anemic offense, we only had 65 kickoffs all season. Of those 65, there were 36 touchbacks. As bad a FG kicker as Baxa was last year, he was solid at getting touchbacks. That was our saving grace.

Edit: We were 23rd in Punt return defense, though. That's probably because of Hedley, but better than I expected.

Pete lembo or Villono from fiu

Pete Lembo would be a home run hire. Could also help Manny in the head coaching department.

Vollono wouldn't be bad; FIU's special teams were not much better than ours this year, but he's done better in the past. Also a more realistic possibility than Lembo.

I also like Shearer from Miami (OH).
