So we finally offer Treon Harris as a QB.

And as for all this BS about "Playing the game", maybe that's ALL this is. Anyone considered that? That maybe they have NO desire to take him at QB, but there were grumblings within the community that we are disprespecting him, and so we threw him the offer so he can say we offered him at QB, and smooth out any bad blood, but we did so knowing FULL well that he's gone and we have zero chance. We basically gave him a token offer knowing we have zero chance, to smooth out any negative stuff going on about "the hometown team not offering him". Its either THAT, or we have developed a problem that makes them feel they NOW need to take a 3rd QB.

Yeah, that would be an absolutely brilliant move.

Holy ****.

LOL seriously. It's more disrespectful now that if they would have done the same earlier. Same for UF. It either comes off disrespectful or desperate, pick one.

LU,

I asked a question and I will direct it to you again so it doesnt get lost.

What do you think the ramifications would be if Miami now offered a 3rd QB, and it HAD NOT extended Treon the offer first as a QB? Ergo, we went after a 3rd QB in this class, and STILL didnt offer him? How would that have sat in the "community"?

geeez...S. FL kids are truly a different breed.

Bridge uses Randy's firing as his 'out' and de-commits from UM late in the process and he's the local legend and good guy. UM offers Treon late in the process and UM's rep with the local kids will take a hit. They'll be viewed as snobby and too good for Treon.

Sometimes offers and commits just come late. If kids can de-commit late...offers can come late too. It's recruiting.

So let me see if I get this straight. It would have been better to NEVER offer him, than to offer him a month before signing day, if this was just politics to keep the locals happy and not to seem like we were disrespecting the kid? KEEPING IN MIND, that they obviously didnt seem to want him at QB very much to begin with.

What do you think are the likely effects of this offer?

Zippo. Nada. He's going to FSU, Im sure he will politely decline. They will laugh and be like "Oh Finally" Lulz... but at least he got it. Think about THIS. What happens if we go out and offer a 3rd QB NOW, and its NOT Treon??? What do you think the likely effects of THAT would be? You think anyone butthurt about us not offering him at QB wont be SEETHING if we offered a 3rd QB from somewhere else, and STILL didnt offer Treon?

At this point, IF we are going to offer a 3rd QB, we had to offer Treon FIRST, and wait for him to pass, then go after someone else, or it would have looked like a real slap in the face.

who must think all south florida ballers are stupid. u think treon and co. won't see thru this "offer" if they go out and offer another QB too? offering now does nothing but make Miami look stupid and inept. and Miami already has HAD 3 QB's not named Treon committed, why would having 3 now make him feel any worse? the Olsen stories have been out for a while now if they just offered treon due to Olsen possibly leaving then Golden is dumber than I thought. at this point you stay away from Treon, and offer the QB u think fits your offense. you ever think about what happens if Treon decides to call miami's bluff and commit?

We knew this months ago. If you play the numbers game with someone like Treon, it has other ramifications. The only reason this offer would be worth it is if we think we have a decent enough chance to flip him that outweighs how this comes across. The problem with that is that we basically told him we didn't like him at QB and he, for whatever reason, wants that shot. So, the chances seem low that he trusts the staff enough to flip.

I answered. I'm not gonna be on the board continuously for the next couple hours, so it's not that I'm avoiding the discussion. I just won't be available.

Could it be that after evaluating the season we are moving the offense from a pro style to more of a spread?

So it is better to not have offered him at all?

That's the only legitimate question. And, given it's Treon Harris (which means more than an ordinary QB with the potential to be a star at another position), you make an early decision to play it a certain way and you stick by it. Otherwise, it may expand existing negative chatter. That's not a risk I roll with at this point. If you think it's just people on this board who react to the offer like "oh really, now?" then I'm not sure what to say. This is a reality we have to deal with and the coaches should be aware of (I think they are, which makes the rumored move more puzzling).

So, what if the early decision was to tell the kid that we could not offer him an opportunity at QB at the time, but will make that offer if the opportunity develops? What if the staff is sticking to its early decision on how to play it and is playing it exactly as it was communicated to Treon? Everyone here assumes that an offer at this point will be received negatively, but it might just be viewed as the staff having acted honestly and proceeded when the opportunity arose and exactly as everyone involved understood might be a possibility.

I'm not defending the staff because I don't know if it dropped the ball or did not, but I don't see criticizing based upon assumptions as making any sense either.

There aren't any assumptions in what I've written to you. There is existing chatter that the staff has a certain, eh, approach. Even if it's not how it is meant, unless they somehow communicated with Treon and he said there was a good chance to flip, this type of move (when he likely declines to flip) is not worth the cost. Like I said in my original post, it's a variant of the Skai Moore situation, except this player is freakin' Treon Harris and we all know what comes with that.

It's just frustrating because none of this had to happen if they simply took a more flexible stance early in the process.

We know WHAT months ago? That we may need to take a 3rd QB? That's funny, because it doesnt seem weve really been working on any. But just recently, our annointed savior from last year, was suspended and didnt even go to the bowl game with the team. Suddenly we offer a 3rd QB?

Again, what do you think the ramifications of us offering a 3rd QB at this point would be, If we STILL didnt offer Treon? Lets say we go and find Joey Jo Jo Jetski from Bumblef8ck, Kentucky, and offer him a scholie as our 3rd QB, and we STILL didnt call Treon and offer him? Would that have been better? Because I think that would have been a BIGGER slap in the face. And why does this have to be about "We didnt like him at QB"? As opposed to "Look, we wanted someone bigger, and more of a pocket guy than a read option/spread guy"? Now they can say, look, we are going to take a 3rd, and even though your skill set was not perfect for our offense, we still think we could make something work because we do really like you and want to give you the first crack at the 3rd spot before we look for anyone else. I mean I think that shows some level of respect.

IMO, we had Rosier locked up early. We already had Edouard on board. When Kaaya got in the mix, Edouard booked, and yes we cooled on him and nudged him out. But we could VERY plausibly say, "look, we couldnt take another QB at this point, we just dont have the scholies". But NOW, if we DO have an extra spot for another QB, what would it look like if we didnt offer it to Treon first? At least THIS way, you look like you are giving him some "respect" and his family some respect, and saying, NOW that we do have room for another QB, we want to give you first crack at it. As opposed to offering Joey Jo JO and never even calling Treon. That would be a BIGGER slap IMO.

OH absolutely. FULL ******.

Because Ive listed THREE reasons why it made sense to do this now from a strategic perspective. But the alternative I should get with is "Golden is a moron and an amateur". Because that makes much more sense. A guy that has been for years acknowledged as a HIGHLY organized recruiter with detailed plans on everything, a guy with great recruiters l ike Coley on staff, and people that KNOW the territory well like Hurlie, Barrow and Coley, and they are going to totally be alseep at the wheel and not think about how or when to offer Treon. As if Treon was playing at "Dark Side of the Moon High School", and not at the same school as several of our other recruits.

I mean GOOD GAWD, if **** is the absence of all reason, this place has really hit the mark.

your reasons are trash, just like the majority of your post. and who says Al is extra organized? the way recruiting has played out the last few years, if anything, SHOWS that Golden isn't as on top of things as he needs to be (COllins, MT, Kirkland, Skai Moore). its absolutely a HORRIBLE idea to offer Treon now unless u know he will flip if u do.

your reasoning:
1. offer him with no intention of accepting offer to make him feel better? how stupid can u be? an offere this late is more disrespectful than not offering at all. at least then you could say its not a system match. and again miami has already had 3 Qb's committed before, why would another qb getting an offer make treon feel worse?

2. Olsen might leave the team. once again the olsen rumors have been out for months, going back to the beginning of fall practice. this isn't something new as evidence that miami has been requesting the film of other QB's so why offer Treon now? makes no sense at all

We (the fans) knew months ago that if we were to offer him, it'd be with the likelihood that he gets a shot and he'd likely end up at another position. I get the part of not wanting to rock the boat and have his father **** things up for 4 years. That's the rationale I had accepted as why we weren't playing the angles. When you move away from that 1 month before signing day, it really does look off. Regardless of what it is, can you argue how this looks and feels?

u can't argue it unless u are a blind homer (which i think that he is) even if its b/c u think u losing olsen or kayaa, then your backup plan is someone that u didn't think was worth an offer until a month before signing day? total ineptitude

GTFOH with that bullsh*t. How the f*ck you know what he wasnt or wasnt on top of regarding MT or Kirkland? We CALLED Kirkland's bluff, becuase the kid was playing us. If ANYTHING, we caught the kid before he F*CKED us on NSD like Randy and Coker got f*cked year after year with kids playing us for fools.

And you keep missing the point by a mile. A number of other teams have recently offered him too, so we could have just decided to add to the mix, so it doesnt look that much worse, when a slew of new programs offered, and we still didnt. 2. We may be taking a 3rd QB. If we DID, and we offered some other kid first, and NOT Treon, that would be a BIGGER slap in the face. 3. The "Olsen" rumors have been around, but nothing as extreme as he being suspended. Its gone from him not working hard, to now "conduct detriminatal to the team", and some vague comments from AG and Olsen's father, which dont give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about this kid's future, and on the HEELS of that suspension, we now suddenly offer a 3rd QB? And you guys dont think there is ANY possible connection??? LMFAO.

Yeah, its all just because Golden is so stupid and clueless. That's the answer to everything.

Why even have a board anymore. Every thread should just be titled "What stupid thing did AG do today", and everyone can just pick from a list to b*tch about. Its a mzing that a guy this mentally retarded and incompetent can have a winning record at a Division 1 football program.

Staff has royally screwed up this kid's and Rudolph's recruitments. Golden has no clue what he is doing down here. This ain't Temple.

But brother you are missing the KEY point here. What IF WE OFFER a 3rd QB? That changes the WHOLE dynamic now. Because we cant just play the "we didnt have room" game with him. He's the local kid, and we didnt offer at QB. But we also have 2 locked up right now. IF suddenly we decide to offer a 3rd, and its NOT him, its a totally different scenario. IMO, its not NEARLY as risky as you make it seem either. They probably felt that there is LITTLE chance that he would take the offer at this point, so the risk is minimal to the risk of NOT offering him first if we are taking a 3rd QB, which would really look like a slap in the face. And even if by some miracle he DOES take it? Ok. So what? We got a **** of an athlete, and a 3rd QB option. Yes, it brings a lot of potential baggage, but we did all we could to avoid it.

I just DONT see how we offer a 3rd QB NOW, unless we offer Treon FIRST, if there really are that many rumblings around So Fla about us not offering him. It would go from "rumblings" to an EARTHQUAKE, that Miami suddenly offered a THIRD QB, and STILL didnt offer Treon.

Not only that, if we did call his bluff and didn't get ****ed it's only because Coley let us know what was up. Golden and his dopes were going to get played just like Coker/Shannon.
