Didn't read all of the astute posters in thread post, but what a dumb *** late decision.
This is the move that should have been done from the get go. Get him on your team, and give him a shot to play QB. Also keep in his ear at the same time. That while you are waiting. This team could really use you at "X" position.
Who knows this kid, not being the prototypical QB, may surprise everyone. This is college, not the NFL. Get the best players that you can on your squad, and figure the rest out later.
The only thing that complicated this was that it's Ice Harris' kid and therefore, if they felt they were getting a crap deal, it may have started a broader issue. For that, I understood shooting Treon straight and sticking to that plan. Except, now we've decided to go against that plan 1 month before signing day. I guess we can pray for the miracle that this somehow ends up as a positive thing. Maybe Treon really, really, really wants to stay home.
I don't think it would become an issue. If you offer the kid what he wants, and you do your best to honor that. Treon is going to sit 2 years at FSU, at the moment. He has a chance here. To get his shot most likely after Williams, and if he felt. He was given a real chance, and didn't win the job. He can get on with playing another position.
I am just saying, get the best players on your squad. If they are someone that wants to be a QB, but isn't the prototypical one. All you can do is allow him to compete, and then try to sway him.
And that would do NOTHING to stop the b8tching and grumblings from the So Fla community who feel that Treon should be starting, just like they b*tched when Marve struggled and ensured he was run out of town and Jacory was annointed. Not to mention the locker room divisions between the 305 boys, and everyone else. I said it before, and I stick by it, Treon was more of a potential problem than he's worth. IMO the BEST way this whole "offer" works, is if it was done out of "respect" to quiet things down, so we can go out and offer a 3rd QB in this class, and with the hope that he was never really going to take it.
Marve was terrible. Jacory wasn't great but he was a solid FBS QB. We have had better and we have had worse.
Watching Treon as well as the others, I think he is a much better player than anyone at QB we have other than Morris who is likely a NFL drafted QB.
Williams is terrible.
Olsen isn't ready yet.
Kaaya looks raw and needs a couple of years to develop at this level.
Rozier looks like a waste. He could be good in maybe three years so I guess a waste is a bad term but he is high risk high reward.
I am not sold on any of these QB's. I seen enough out of Treon to know he could be a player day one.
