So tonight is just about if we jump Utah?

I mean. I guess. I just don’t see it. Vandy beat an inferior team comfortably and so did we. If anything, I could see both us and Vandy jumping Utah. We go to 12, Vandy 13 and Utah 14. They’d have to explain what Vandy did to warrant jumping us. No ranked wins, our common opponent, VT was never in doubt for us. Vandy trailed until the fourth quarter nearly started. If all it took was Vandy thumping a trash Uk team, we should’ve never jumped them to begin with.
Dropping teams for a bye also makes no sense. The rankings are what they are. Good for message board madness and second guessing. We need to win Saturday and likely get help.

tbh the committee to be petty will move miami up past Utah. but then to not have to compare ND and Miami, they will then jump ND over OU, since they compare 4 at a time and ND would be in t2 and miami in t3

the next conversation would then be, why are we behind Bama when we have a common opponent that they lost to and we beat.

tonight should be "fun"
This is where they will put the Ralph Kramden hummina hummina hummina and now says Bama has more quality wins even though they have been talking the BS line about quality losses.

well now its different teams we are comparing. you have to realize the commentators have a list of questions given to them which the chairman already rehearsed his answer for. no way they are actually putting these guys on the spot

why do people think being 12 means we are in ND group of 3 for the committee. They already laid the ground work last week saying the quad they compared ND to was the 8,9,10 group of OU, ND, Bama. Being withing 3 spots doesnt put us in their group imo. As long as they can keep buffer teams between us and ND they don't have to say we were with a comparative range. If we jump them it won't be until after the CCG weekend if BYU loses and Bama wins and jumps back into the top group being SEC champion. That would push ND down to 10 and if we are 11 now you force them to make a choice.

People also need to understand we're not jumping up 3 spots just by getting within 3 of ND.

So ND is 9 and Miami is 13, OK. We don't compare them. But if Miami gets to 12, then we compare them, and all of a sudden Miami goes to 8? The only way we're jumping ND and all this head to head bull**** would come into play is if we were right next to each other. If ND was 8 and Miami was 9, they'd likely flip them. But our win over them doesn't magically catapult us over multiple teams ahead of us just because we get close to ND.

I was on ESPN and they have the rankings all set up weird. You change weeks and the CFP takes the AP’s spot. Just dumb.

But I don’t see what Vandy did to warrant jumping us, and I also don’t see what we did to warrant being jumped.
Only thing is that VT is a common opponent.

They beat them by 24 in September. They probably won't actually look at the storyline (VT was up 20-10 at the half) but I can absolutely see them do so box score comparison and say "well Vandy beat them by 1 more TD so that warrants them being 1 spot ahead."

Miami escaped, vandy dominated

You have the right idea HOWEVER, there is a very interesting but illogical outcome based entirely on TIMING.

If we jump Utah, and ND and Vandy stay put. That means we have entered ND's quadrant this week. If the committee says theyll do what they should, then we shouldn't only go up to 12. We should go higher and ahead of ND or atleast ND behind us. Bama. ByU, Miami, ND, different variations but point being is we wont be at #12, we will be higher. Which should protect us against Vandy winning this week.

Now of they jump Vandy ahead of us this week (and drop utah) leaving us where we are. We are stuck there if vandy wins next week.

So even though it shouldn't be the case, its actually very important for us to get into the ND quadrant this week. It may provide very necessary cushion of teams like vandy or Michigan win next week as ND could be the first out or BYU instead of us.
I think if we are placed in the same tier as ND they could lift us above BYU but not ND and they trot out the loss thing as justification for Nd being ahead and then diminish BYU due to blow out and lack of quality win. Then Bama will need to be impressive to stay in front of Miami if we win impressively against Pitt.

If Bama struggles with Auburn we may both (Miami/ND) jump Bama. I think it’s more likely that the committee ***** the 5th sec team over to get Nd in and and we get drug along because we beat ND so they can avoid the argument. It’s way easier to say Bamas FSU loss is the worst loss and the SEC didn’t earn 5 teams than to try and spin the mental gymnastics of putting ND in but not Miami when we both played Pitt recently and equally thumped them. It would help us if some of these garbage ACC teams actually show up for the rivalry crossovers this weekend.

We should all be massive GT, Clemson, Louisville, FSU fans this weekend.

For me, it's jumping Utah, and we should. Even if Vanderbilt jumps, they still have to play UT. The outcome there will determine their spot, because even if they don't jump this week but win next week, they will jump us then.
Understood.

But, here is why Vandy jumping us this week is a bad omen. It tells us exactly what the CFB Committee thinks about us with one game left in the season. It doesn’t matter if Vandy loses to UT. It means we will never jump ND despite the head-to-head on the field result and it means we may not even leap frog Bama or BYU should either lose again in their respective conference championship games.

that ranking is what it should be now

BYU controls their own destiny.. they can be mad about being behind a 2 loss team but they get to play Texas Tech again and if they lose twice to the same team they should be out.. if they win they are in

bama should be ahead of that whole group

miami should be ahead of ND
-ND's "signature win" team just lost by 2 scores at home.
-One our losses (on the road) is now ranked.
-We gained on ND's SOS (and will do so next week).

Don't they compare in groups of 3, meaning we would need ND to be #10 to get the comparison if we move up 1 to #12

Right now their logic says its

Pod 1: OSU, TAMU, Indiana
Pod 2: UGA, TTU, MISS
Pod 3: Oregon, Oklahoma, Notre Dame
Pod 4: Alabama, BYU, Utah

To get into ND's pod we need to jump Utah AND Bama to jump Notre Dame

Or we can hope for a bunch of losing between 5-12

Vandy is currently 12th in AP top 25. They were previously 14th.

So to think that the committee, which is filled with SEC bias, wouldn't bump Bandy to 12th isn't really as crazy as you think.

Again, allow me to explain.

AP has had Vandy ahead of us previously, and the CFP has jumped Miami over Vandy PREVIOUSLY.

I DON'T THINK THE CFP WILL REVERSE WHAT THEY DID LAST WEEK, PARTICULARLY AS MIAMI GETS CLOSER AND CLOSER TO VANDY IN THE AP.

It should but who the **** knows. The CFP head said they compared 8, 9, and 10 (groups of three) and that was a group. That means we need to get up to 10 to get in Notre Dame's group.

But then again, 8, 9 and 10 doesn't make ******* sense because...

[1,2,3]. [4,5,6] [7,8,9} ......

So really, I don't think the CFP committee know what the **** they're doing, they're winging it and just trying to justify it with bull**** afterward.

the committee rules, in writing - clearly states they compare teams 9-12

of course they can do whatever they want, but they are supposed to do 9-12

Once the CFP poll is released, it sits in the first slot on the ESPN page, and AP takes the second slot. Coaches poll bumps down to third.

precisely why i said ND will jump OU to be 8 and we will jump Utah to be 12 and once again not be compared because we arent in the same pool
I think that's more likely than vandy jumping us

but idk, I mean there's ND bias and then there's SEC bias

are they really going to take a home field game in the playoffs away from oklahoma after they beat a ranked Missouri team, because ND beat Syracuse by a lot?

if so -be prepared for mayhem greater than just us
