so the smoke begins (Fall Football Conference Updates)

The big ten has the tv rights for all their schools, then they went out and negotiated Tv contracts with fox, which owns the big 10 network, and abc on behalf of all the schools. That revenue is then distributed among the schools. Nebraska would pay a huge penalty if it backed out. They can’t just leave The conference on a whim. My guess is that the vote they took also matters, otherwise why do it? The vote was probably binding in some way according to the conference by laws
It will be interesting to see how it plays out. There are loopholes and clauses in every contract and I do not consider it leaving on a whim during an unprecedented thing like a Pandemic. It may be a good reason to void a contract. (Who knows?)

It will be up to their Lawyers and accountants to see if it is worth bolting along with their constituents which is the State of Nebraska. They are a State University so they are obligated to do what is best for their State first and foremost one would think.

Liberty University is liberal? BYU? Utah? Baylor? TCU?

It's insane this issue is even remotely political. There's no way Michigan and OSU don't want to play football. It has nothing to do with liberal vs conservative. It's about $$$ and optics.

Exactly. People trap themselves in dumb arguments all the time.

The bursar of the Buckeyes just entered the room.
Play.............................................and pay $$$$$$$$$$$$+++++++++++++
No Play................................... and lose $$$$$$$$$$$$------------------------
Reality.

Always Liberals vs Conservatives in America. LMAO. Such a false narrative... They voted 12-2. 😂😩😂
They just need to hate and blame somebody else when others exercise a different opinion or action. Their beliefs go contrary to democracy, Constitution and BILL of Rights, yet the IDIOTS believe they more American than anybody who disagrees with them. Facts don't matter to these Anti-American flag waving IDIOTS.

Lets see if the B10 commissioner blasts them like he did Nebraska. I say no because Taint is one of the big boys in the conference
He doesn't really have to blast them. All he has to do is say, "Your school voted against playing, so take it up with your school."

Big10/Pac12 went about it all wrong in terms of their timing and I’m glad it’s back firing on them.

They are backed into a corner:

Option A- keep the season cancelled and watch the other conferences from your couch. Lose tons of $, reputation, recruits, etc.

Option B- Come out and say they’re playing which contradicts all their reasons for cancelling in the first place.

Also can’t preach player safety and play in the spring and then again in the fall.

The Big 10 blew their load too early canceling the season. If you read the comments from the Big 10 university presidents that were made immediately after, it was all about how EVERY conference was going to follow their lead and cancel too. Then they wouldn't have looked so bad in comparison.

But now that every other conference besides the PAC 12 has left them alone at the alter looking like pussies, I'm sure a lot of them are regretting their decision.

If nothing changes, this is going to be a catastrophe for the BIG10 and Pac12. They've basically given themselves the death penalty for a year. That can't be good.
Exactly! That ******* conference up north thinks they run the whole show in this country along with the rest of the Yankees always trying to tell everyone what to do. Well they found out real quick they don’t run us, the sec and the big 12 down here as we responded with a big middle finger to them. Predictably the only one that coward to them was the snowflake hippie pussies on the west coast. As far as I’m concerned those two conferences can implode and start to eat there own which as we can see has already started. You reap what you sow! Down south we’re playing some football and I say amen to that!

Where r u at NCAA??
you’d still complain. If they tell everyone To play, they either assume liability themselves or they are pushing it onto the schools. they have little skin in the game, so why should they make the decision? The conferences have the most to gain or lose so it should be their decision. If they canceled it, you‘d say they were only looking out for their own interests and Should let them play if they want. The NCAA is more like the legislative and judicial branches of our government, not like a monarchy or dictatorship that you view them as.

Smoke! smoke ! and more smoke! neither nebraska or osu are going anywhere. they are not going to risk all that sweet Big 10 money pipeline that comes with being part of the conference
Nebraska has been miserable in the big 10 and they are going to go back to the BIG 12, who will get a new TV deal.

This was the out NU was looking for.

Maybe they can just start up spring football with PAC-12 and B1G and the G5 conferences that wussed out. They wouldn't be eligible for a real championship, but they could have an alternative. Call it the UCF Cup.

Spot on !

“I know Gene and I talked again this morning at length about this and we’re still exploring all of those options,” the head coach said. “This thing’s moving, it’s changing and we are looking at everything, I can promise you that.”

Ohio State players, staff and even parents have made it very clear that they believe the safest place to be during this pandemic is within the football program and its facilities. The Buckeyes believe they have the health and safety measures in place to handle a fall season and Day made it clear during his conversation with the media that he still believes the Scarlet and Gray could manage a football season in 2020.

“There’s just a lot of conversations,” Day said. “We’re trying to explore every option possible, and we owe it to our kids to do that and that’s what we’re doing. I can’t really get into specifics because there’s still a lot of unknowns there but we’re asking all the questions and pushing the envelope as much as we can, making sure that it’s obviously safe to do so. But we’ve got to make sure that we turn over every stone.”

A major obstacle is the Big Ten itself. On Tuesday night, after Nebraska indicated in a statement that the Cornhuskers would continue to look at options, Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren told Yahoo! Sports’ Pete Thamel that teams wouldn't be permitted to play football this fall and still be a member of the conference.

As Smith mentioned, there are also television contracts to consider. If Ohio State was to join the SEC, Big 12 or ACC, even temporarily, that could violate terms with the Big Ten’s TV partners, FOX and ABC/ESPN.

All of this is being discussed and options are being explored by Ohio State.

Ohio State, Nebraska and the other 12 members of the Big 10 (sounds like 14) WILL NOT play a college football game this fall, I guarantee it. This is just meaningless chatter posturing to keep kids from getting out of Dodge. If I’m wrong I’ll take my crow medium well!
