So, REALLY, how bad is the recruiting?

That’s not the clemson model. They go after elite qbs. Klubnik was a 5 star.
The last two years we went Portal for QB, so that's why I said Game Manager...

But, I guess I should've said the Saint Thomas Aquinas Model... When I was growing up White Kids to block. Black Kids to run.

Spend Money only on WR, OT, and get the Fastest Runningback in the Country no matter his Ranking.

Defense: 2 Elite DTs, 1 Elite DEs, 1 Tweener, and DBs.

Call it a day.

Diaz’s transitional class was 2019 after Richt abruptly retired.

His first true class, by CIS’ new definition, was 2020 which was 11th. The class of 2021 was 11th. Diaz was only here from 2019-21.
Very aware of what years are what. Diaz’s 2020 class was 16th. We’re talking composite.

But I know you’re going to find a way to twist this entire thread into saying Manny isn’t tiers below Cristobal as a recruiter using flawed logic, so we can leave this one here.

IMO.... until we get in the final 4 playoff match-ups on the regular, we need to accept class rankings in the 6-14 range.... 1-5 constantly ranked teams are the ones in the playoffs almost every year, if not winning it all..... we have the money.. aside from what the doomers think, Mario and his staff overall can recruit... Winning BIG and consistently is the missing ingredient, along with high profile draft picks...

I had to take a step back from myself out of the Misery Puddle this place has become in the last couple days and start to compile some facts and data.

Full disclosure, I'm not saying people shouldn't be concerned, I'm not saying everyone should say everything is lollipops and ice cream, etc. In the 2026 class, we've gone after a ton of big fish, and recently, we've missed on **** near every one of them. So, I get the mood, genunely.

Full disclosure #2...it's July. Again, see the point above, I get it. But until this class is signed, for the positives and negatives, let's just try to have some perspective.

Full disclosure #3....this does NOT take into account attrition, on-field performance once the kids arrive, etc. Obviously this is what it's all about, but right now, we're all smacking our wives around and kicking our dogs because the 2026 class is going to cause the collapse of Western Civilization, and obviously we have no idea how any of these kids will pan out. So this is purely recruiting rankings, which is all we care about in July for an upcoming class.

I looked at the last 3 classes, on the composite, and averaged them. Here is the average of the last 3 classes for every school up to where we stand.

1. UGA - 1.67
2. Alabama - 2.00
3. Texas - 3.33
4. Ohio State - 4.33
5. Oregon - 5.67
6. LSU - 7.33
7. Miami - 8.33
8. Oklahoma - 10.33
9. Notre Dame - 11.00
10. Florida - 11.00

18. FSU - 17.00

So there are exactly six schools in the entire country who have recruited better classes than Miami over the last 3 cycles. Only 7 schools have an average class ranking in the single digits over the past 3 cycles, Miami is one of them.

The mopery has even gotten to me a little bit in the sense that I'm starting to really examine Miami's recruiting ceiling. But look at this. Is there anyone here who thinks there's any coach on the planet we could have hired who would have us ABOVE UGA, Alabama, Texas, or Taint at this point? Show of hands? Who has a name for me that, if hired the same day Mario was, would have us in the top 4? I'm going with zero point zero humans. So....is this really that terrible? Genuinely, I was curious myself, it's been a long time since I looked at this data like this, so I wanted to see where we stood. This kind of reels me in a little bit.

Now, one final mope before I go, the 2025 class was the worst of the three. And 2026, RIGHT NOW, looks to be about the same. So again, I genuinely do get the pessimism. I don't think people are crazy for shaking their heads a little bit here. But let's use a tiny bit of perspective and look big picture. Let's see where this class ends up in December and we can go from there. Because though the 3 real cycles this dude has had here, #7 is pretty **** elite if you ask me. Every single one of those programs above us have been WILDLY more successful than we have in the past 20 years.
Welcome to the Bully Slurper Patrol!!! Ain't no room for nuance and perspective up in this b!trch!

I will never accept classes ranked 14th and neither should you. I just laid out literal data that shows we have the 7th best average of any program over the last 3 cycles.

If it gets worse than that going forward, we have the wrong coach. And definitely if we have classes consistently ranked 14th.

If you said 6th to 9th or 10th, ok. But you lost me with recruiting like Mike Norvell.

your original post is spot on... I guess I used the wrong word... not that we as fans should accept 10-14, more so we should expect those type of classes if we keep missing out on the playoffs....

He posted as I was typing. I was thinking of the score like when you do the race to 300 threads.

1. I hate Manny Diaz, period; so don’t ever try to put any positive words about him in mouth.

2. I didn’t realize this was based upon “HS rankings” strictly, as normally we’ve included the totality of the class since we’re so keen on portal shopping.

3. The thing about facts is there’s never a need to twist; when u’re trying to cope or justify, that’s when the twisting begins.

Let me ask the question about recruiting this way.

Do you think the coaches are very upset, a little upset, or not upset at all about not closing on; Brown, Johnson, Cooper, Kolojay, and any and all all safeties? Maybe I am crazy but I hope the coaches are very upset. I know I would be if I was doing a job, fighting to be the best in the country, and not winning many of the recruiting battles that will determine in a few years whether the team I coach will be the best.

I don’t know how many of you have coached a team sport at any level; whether Rec, travel, middle school, high school or beyond. There are few things more frustrating than going into a game with a talent disadvantage. I’ve been on both ends and being at a talent disadvantage keeps me up at night. And yes I can scheme and game plan, but more often than not in sports, talent wins. Coaching helps, and can help a lot, but there is a reason Mahomes keeps winning, and Jordan won 6, and LeBron has won a title with 3 different teams and coaches.

If I was a coach at UM and knew that I would likely never have the type of recruiting class that puts me in contention for a national championship, I would wonder why I am doing it. I hope it’s not just for the money. Coach to be the best. The rest is just B.S.

The composite class was 16th, but the overall class was 11th.

I hear you, but all of the numbers I’ve quoted in this thread is HS recruiting/composite only. I’m not looking at portal additions and how that impacts the classes at all.

I think Mario’s 2025 class was inside the top 10 if you want to include portal classes too, so he’s stacked 3 in a row if you wanna do that. I’m talking HS recruiting only which is what we’re all going nuts about right now in July looking to 2026.

Most of the coaches have been partying it up, vacation, for the last 10 days or so getting back yesterday. Upset? Color me surprised.

I could care less about ranking
As long as he’s stacking and developing along the Lines our floor will always be high
With that said
He’s doing an amazing job at oline
Even de is elite and nicely stacked
It’s just dt
It seems even more glaring bc we’re good at the other two spots

DT and Safety are the glaring holes. WR and LB are fine but not where they need to be, either.

Dude....why are you wasting your hard-earned time off trying to rationalize with irrational fans.

These same fans say we sucked since the Bush Administration yet complain when we lose recruits to those same schools on that list.

Why are we even in the same list and we suck?

Fans vilify Mario for losing a recruit but guarantee talk the most **** when we land Cantwell when we have no business landing such kid.

Let the man build his team and enjoy the ride!
