So if an 8-4 record gets Diaz and Blake fired

Shelve the jewelry when we're being blown out. That's all I ask. Celebrating moments isn't uncommon but parading around with props makes us all look and feel like idiots, but that's our culture and I have to sit still and take it. Anyway, I like how the offense came out in the second half. **** shame we couldn't punch it in and allowed a 94 yard TD a couple minutes later. Would have been nice to enjoy a few seconds of momentum.

Look, we realize you were watching from home and you got all emotional when Herbstreit made his comments.

But the issue of "shelving our jewelry when we are down 31" is not the same as whether the team will play hard and show resilience. After we got hit with the first 27 points, I liked the way that we played hard for the rest of the second quarter and into the third quarter. We had a 9 point swing on the safety that should have happened vs. the 94 yard TD play and the officiating (while not a game-result-determinant) was terrible.

I just don't want for us to constantly bring up prior years. We've played one game. I'm as mad as anyone based on the outcome, but we have 11 more games to prove that this team is different from past teams and is not going to go into the fetal position just because we lost to the #1 team in the country.

I stopped watching at halftime but in watching the replay I do wish I had skipped the first half and tuned-in for the 2nd half. I'm all for looking ahead and not behind us, but the systemic issues do seem to carry over from one year to the next. Someone needs to toughen these kids up and make them take this a little more seriously but yes, these next 11 games are still ahead of them and I hope they're not dwelling on week 1.

8-4 won’t get Manny fired. But he won’t get a contract extension either. Manny has to win a bowl game or go 10-2 this year or next (his last season). But since he is always unprepared and so is his team, they won’t win a bowl game and he won’t get and extension.

We will have a new coach by December 25th in 2022.

This would be fair if we didn't already have FIU, Duke, La Tech and the UNC abortion from last year.

I understand that but the definition of progress is coming from a place that was worse.

All those games, except UNC, are from 2019. We didn't have anywhere close to a year like 2019 last year. We never came close to an FIU, Duke, or LA Tech moment. Is that not progress? We lost one game last year that was unexpected and only because the score, not the L. Every other game went as you would expect.

Nobody can argue that 2020 wasn't an improvement over 2019 and nobody can argue what 2021 will be simply because we lost to a team that destroys every single team in college football. Maybe progress has been stopped, maybe we go 7-5, but my point is we won't know that for a few weeks. We certainly don't know now, like many are claiming.

Look at Texas A&M. They go 7-5 in 2019, come out in 2020 and in their second game lose 52-24 to Bama after barely beating Vanderbilt in their 1st game 17-12. Tell me that fanbase isn't freaking the **** out after that. They haven't lost a game since.

I could be wrong but I'd wager that most Miami fans with dignity want the jewelry to go away altogether, but I'd settle for some self-awareness during blowouts. You can't hold anyone accountable when you allow players to celebrate with jewelry while they're getting slaughtered. It's a team sport.

Seriously? Was the problem in that game that we weren't "accountable"? We were beaten by a better team. We played conservatively on offense. We missed a bunch of tackles. We had the refs against us. NONE of those things are excuses, but those same factors will not all be present for the next 11 games.

We are taking a tiny sample, comparing it to prior years, and giving up on the team after losing a game where we were double-digit underdogs. Read some of the pvssy-porsts on this board, there are people screaming about how we shouldn't have played Alabama (even though the game was scheduled when we had, arguably, our best W-L record over the past 15 years).

I'm ****ed off by what I saw, and I spent a lot of money to watch a garbage outcome. But I don't start a bunch of look-at-me threads and post a bunch of mopey garbage after one (admittedly bad) game.

And for the record, I'm not mad at you personally, I know some of this is a reaction to other porsters, but let's just settle down and watch the next 11 games, without a bunch of attention-whores rushing out to be "FIRST" to give their hot-takes about how Manny Diaz's mother should have aborted him because she knew he was a terrible coach while he was in the womb.

Ha. I know. Said it for effect. Kaaya and Richards broke that game open. Was nice to see.
I figured. Your point still holds. I'm just trying to keep alive the few good memories from the last several years lol. There aren't many of those games.

After App State? I know what my eyes see. I don’t need the App state game to show me more. I saw the same issues in the Alabama game that we saw in the UNC game last year or the UAB game. Nothing has been fixed. Last year the excuse was, “Covid…no off-season workouts…no continuity”!

Well, we had a full spring, and a full offseason to prepare for Alabama, and not only did the same glaring issues reappear from last year, the team couldn’t compete. Losing is fine, but not competing???? No way. Get this coach outta here. There is no improvement and the same issues are reoccurring. That’s coaching!

So, we beat up on an outmanned and App state team. That tells us nothing. When the matchups are even or when we’re at a talent disadvantage the coaching issues are glaring.
We controlled their run game. We held them to 3.9 yards a carry. That's not improvement from North Carolina?

Apples and oranges. How many titles do they have if there is no playoff to get them in as a 3 or 4. Conversely, how many more titles do we have if there is the playoff? For the latter, I’d say two more in the 80s/early 90s and 2000.

Fair point

An 8-4 record is unlikely to get Diaz fired.

We are an 8-4 program right now. We have an 8-4 infrastructure. The University itself, outside of a few areas of focus, is 8-4 (I feel ok saying that as a graduate).

Anything above that or slightly below is a "nice to have."

Their message is likely "be happy if/when we win 9 games and our first bowl victory since the advent of the internet. Progress."
This. All of this.

You’re right, we’re going 7-5 with this same undisciplined, unprepared and unmotivated team combo with mannys Mickey Mouse defense scheme that every acc coach knows how to attack along with lashleys unimaginative offense. Oh and our yearly bowl game loss at a bowl in Louisiana during Christmas that the kids have no desire to be at and quit on manny for the third straight year. So your right, he won’t go and 8-4, he’ll go 7-6 and god willing will get Blake and him fired for the malpractice by both that was committed against his university in manures hiring at the cost of 4 million to Temple in all of about 5 minutes. Will you be sad when Manny and Blake are fired Go Canes? Will you be sad that there mediocrity will no longer be with this program? I only ask because you sure do defend them at every turn, it’s just weird someone who claims to be a FAN, would defend two people that have shown how incompetent they are and how terrible they have been for this program?
So people are real fans only if they trash the program?

I'm just going to ask, what are the "systemic" issues that we can derive from ONE GAME against an admittedly superior opponent?

For instance, with penalties, we had fewer penalties for fewer yards than Alabama (barely). I think the targeting call was garbage, and the Harvey personal foul was very late in the game (not good, but also not decisive). I think we had 2 false starts, which were early, but that's not as bad as what we had in past years, and I'm not thrilled with a defensive offsides call, but it was on a DB, not a DL. I probably am forgetting about a couple of penalties, but those are the ones I remember.

I can agree with the "toughness" issue, in a general sense. You are one of the better and more fair posters on the board, I just think we all need to see how the players respond before we make huge judgments on this 2021 team.

What is the alternative, at least in-season? Fire all the coaches? Play all the freshmen? I get the frustration, but venting it isn't going to change this team at this moment.

Facts, he just want to trash the program. Anyone who didn't see the improves run defense just doesn't know football. But when your agenda is to simply to bash Miami this is all we'll get from such people.

Remember no celebrations, the no names on the back of the jersey and no decals on the helmet until it’s earned motivational tactics used by Randy ..I do. It’s bull****. Like u said. The chain is what we do..and as I said, nobody on that team should give af about the “hey kids gtfo off my lawn” vibes some here have about it..teams all over the nation have props. We have fair weather/front running fan base..the that THIS is the discussion is crazy
Cut the bullcrap. We were down 31, not 40, at the time of the fumble. The turnover chain is what we do. "Wild'n out", give me a ******* break.

But you're gonna keep yapping about last year. Celebrating with our turnover chain is not the same as dancing on the sidelines at random moments in the game.

Apparently the mopers think so.

Look, most of these guys would never say to any of the players the kind of stuff that they are emboldened to post on this board.
They get they jaw broken..they’d actually be the first tryna get a picture or something signed tbh

At this point anything seems possible thanks to epic corching but I'll stick with my preseason 9-3 regular season prediction
