So I took Ahmmon Richards' advice and watched the "SkyCast''...

The Bengals at the time had one of the better offenses around with Boomer and Sam Wyche. People forget but Sam was Bill Walsh's OC for those early Niner teams.

I forget what they called that offense in Cincy, but it was a good offense.
Sam did come from the Bill Walsh tree, one of the best football trees arguably ever. Esiason was a better than average QB, those Bengals were an average team overall, had that special year, the whole Ickey shuffle thing, and all that. But overall those teams were ok, its why I said Eddie had a solid NFL career that would have been even better had he landed onto a team that was consistently good, considering that there was no free agency back then so if you were good you were pretty much locked into that team for the majority of your career.

it used to hack off Wyche that everyone gave credit to the Bills and the K-Gun for being no-huddle hurry-up in the NFL, when they were actually doing it for a few years prior

He would say, ''yeah, they invented it -- after we did."
Eddie was the man before all of our great WRs. I still have his bengals RC when he was sitting on the bench

Those bengal squads were very good and being a miner Joe Montana fan I got to see a few times they played. They were deadly with boomer

Boomers play-action game was elite. Guy was a magician with that ball. I still think Eddie was the best athlete we've ever had at WR and best after the catch

He was awesome with that ball in his hands. He was old school used to put it one hand away from his body

He was also one of the last WRs here to use a 3 pt stance on the outside too lolol

Our receivers being in that track stance was a Gary Stevens staple!! We need to bring that back!!
If our guys played like those guys he’ll yea

Stevens was trending setting with his pro offense at the college level in those days

That was always the secret sauce of our teams back in the day….amazing athletes who were in prime shape and trend setting offense and defensive systems

Carroll was insane that year we went to the Cotton Bowl

in that era, defenses still didn't really know how to defend the slot WR in Errickson's spread/triple-shoot. Carroll was listed as a 'tailback' in that system, but he was an inside slot (the lone running back was listed as 'fullback')

Wesley would just be an absolute match-up nightmare for linebackers

of the game on Saturday. For those who aren't aware of what that is, its basically an alternate broadcast that shows the elevated endzone view from up close. It really is a new perspective on the game...

I just got finished with the first half and it's clear that the wind impacted Carson Beck and Carter Davis. Beck's throws to Trader on the go-route, the key 3rd down conversion to Daniels (which was actually complete as Daniels made a nice adjustment to the ball) and later on the fade to him, all those passes swerved as the passes got into the wind.

And they all had the same path (like a Fernando Valenzuela screwball) as Davis' kicks to that particular side of the field(where section 131 was with many of the UM fans). Some of Marcel Reed's passes fluttered and were impacted by the breeze

But yeah, will watch the second half later. For anyone that wants to see this game from this perspective, just go on the ESPN app, or ESPN Watch, and go to schedule and hit the tab for replay and go to 'Saturday Dec 20th) and you'll see all the options listed. I chose the SkyCast with the UM radio announcers
One other takeaway I had is how many near picks the LBs on both sides had. On one drive, Beck threw a ball to a receiver going left to right across the middle, I think the Mali fumble. It surprised an A&M LB and went right through his hands.

On A&Ms last drive, one of their first passes in the middle of the field went straight through a defender's arms

Yes. If you had worries about Carter they aren’t reasonable. He was nailing his kicks. The wind blew in a different way every kick
The last one he missed was the most frustrating for me. He perfectly accounted for the wind by pulling it a little left and of course that one time the wind had no impact on the ball. It was ridiculous.

Yes, that was Kieonte Scott who was playing kind of a nickel backer type of position.

Another fun list would be brainstorming underrated Cane WRs.

Immediately, Charleston Rambo comes to mind. Outside of X and A.R., he had one of the better seasons I can remember in recent Cane history.

Unfortunately, we only had him one year, and that 2021 team didn’t accomplish much so I feel like people forget about him. But he was a 50-50 ball wizard.

After working with #85 in his spare time, Leonard Hankerson was kind of a beast

The offense Craig Erickson's last year was pretty great. If our defense hadn't been sucking wind in Provo, UT, they might have ended up winning the national title that year too. It was another year when by the end of the year, they probably were the best team in the country.

One thing I really enjoyed about the Gary Stevens offense was getting the RBs significantly involved in the passing game. We went away from that, didn't start doing it again until Coker took over as OC, and got away from it again. We don't do it enough now, and it's part of Pringle's skill set.
