On the DL, Elijah Roberts, Chantz Williams and Leonard Taylor need more snaps. We need a serious infusion of talent all over the DL particularly at DE. The inability of the DEs to win 1 on 1 battles on the outside is severely hampering the secondary, our ability to create turnovers and our overall effectiveness as a defense.
At Striker or Linebacker Chase Smith needs to play. Also I am still mystified at why Avery Huff, Tirek Austin Cave or Sam Brooks cannot get on the field. I know Brooks was banged up early but isn't he healthy yet? Are they all hurt? Im very pleased to see Jennings snaps getting fewer and fewer. Steed has been a very pleasant surprise and I wouldn't mind seeing him a bit more but we will see. This is another area where we need a serious infusion of talent. This LB corps had been nowhere near Miami quality in years. That must change.
I know CB is a mess but I love seeing Dunson and Clarke getting major reps. It's the only way they will develop. At this point I need to see Malik Curtis as well. Good to see Ivey with 7 snaps but Couch with only 5? That is much too low. I know Couch has struggled a bit this year but to me that stems mostly from being played out of position. Couch is a nickel CB. Playing him outside will only expose his inherent weaknesses. Another area where we must get a major infusion of elite talent. A Miami defense cannot properly function without CBs who can play man.
At Safety I couldn't be more pleased with the emergence of Kinchens and J.Williams. A.Williams will catch up shortly. Now that Bolden is gone why move Dunson to safety? A.Williams is back and Jaelen Harrell and K.Washington are available unless they too are injured.
Offensively I am pleased with the starting 5 on the OL. They are developing chemistry through continuity. We still need to continue to recruit much better here. It is essential to any future offensive success.
At RB Rooster has been sensational but we need to integrate Cody Brown and Thad Franklin into the offense. They are healthy, talented and can add a new dimension to our running attack which desperately needs more variety. That and we don't want to beat up Knighton.
At TE Arroyo needs much more than 10 snaps. That's ridiculous for a player of his caliber. I don't give a rip if he is a true freshman. We need to add more quality players here. 2 is not enough.
At WR I am thrilled with the play of Rambo but he cant be the only guy and we must develop more WR for the future. Im happy with the snap count that K.Smith is getting but he needs to be more involved/targeted in the passing game. What ever happened fo Michael Redding?
I would like to see Restrepo more involved in general and now that TVD is getting more comfortable and emerging as a leader I would like to see the route tree open up a bit more. There are many things we can do with Harley, Restrepo and Brashard Smith in the slot. Speaking of B.Smith where the heck was he on Saturday. #12 is a serious playmaker. B.Smith and Knighton in the passing game needs to be fully explored. Even lining B.Smith at RB has potential as does a 2 back look with #12 and #4.
I know Brinson and George are true freshmen but I would like to see those 2 get more opportunities as the season goes on. They have legit ability.
TVD has cemented his status as the leader of this team and QB1 with his gutsy play and steady improvement. I am very happy with where he is right now. What I need to see going forward from TVD is continued improvement and game to game consistency. I also want to see Lashlee ditch the training wheels and let this kid go. Having said all that it is a shame that Jake Garcia got hurt and is likely out out for the year. It would have been extremely beneficial to have the competition and to allow Garcia the opportunity at live reps and further development.
