SJ Alofaituli- season stats, other interesting stats. Mensah is saving the line

Watching him miss so often made me realize why there’s no way you can play him at center. If he can’t even get his assignments down at guard there’s no way he can handle calling out protections at center. Can you imagine him trying to call out a blitz.

On another note all these Bishop Gorman guys we recruit seem to fit what Bill Parcells and Saban would call exceptions.

Parcells and Saban had pretty strict NFL and college scouting criteria dictated that if a player lacked the ideal, prototypical frame for their position, they had to possess a freakish, 99th-percentile elite trait. You can look great in high school as a short lineman or te or a skinny de but college is different.

He played in the SEC, he can’t be worse, right? Right?
I mean we lost 3 guys to the NFL draft and we didn’t bring in any bonafide starters with a lot of good reps. I’m a big fan of Samson but he and McCoy split reps. We’ve basically got 5 guys who are first time legit starters everyone knew the OL would take a big step back this year.

But I’d like to see some more movement besides Samson and McCoy and see who else can play and is ready for the moment

He had a knee procedure and that’s harder on those bigger guys , it takes longer to recover . He was the one I was countering on to be at least a swing guy.
Hoping he continues to improve with time. The season is long and we clearly can use the help.

I think they are putting the interests and desires of McCoy and Samson ahead of the team. They both want to play tackle but I think it’s clear to anyone following the team, the line would be better off if one of them moved inside.
