Simpson better than Kul...?

Based on their resumes here, we didn’t lose anything when Kul left.
But u could also say Simpson inherited those guys who were already coached up..I’m saying kool has the track record of developing guys consistently over time. Simpson though he did a great job this year, inherited these guys. Let’s see how he evaluates and gets his own crop ready to go

Too early to tell. All of our projected good players did what they were supposed to do but what about Ford, Patchan, D Jack, etc? Their performances are more indicative of coaching than our top players.

Until then he's just a coach who inherited Gerald Willis and Joe Jackson.

The JJ comment is fair. And a legitimate, reasoned opinion on his recruiting ability (positive or negative) is premature at this point. But no other DL coach managed to do much of anything with Willis (including Kul or his coach at ufag) or get anything near this level of production from him.

I recall your comments and they've proved 100% correct. I will add that Simpson is also better in tune with the mindset of HS recruits. He appears a relentless worker. Kul just showed up and expected people to sign.
Exactly, brother. Exactly.

Simpson proved me wrong and turned out to be much better than I thought he would be.

But you all don’t think it’s a tad premature to label a guy who has literally been coaching P5 ball for one season better than a guy who has coached several All Americans and coached several 1st day draft picks??....

*In before he “But he coached in the NFL!”. That’s not what I’m asking you and has nothing to do with my question.

Regardless, I’m glad we have him.

Nothing premature at all. We’re talking about a position coach not a HC or coordinator. You can see what a position coach brings to the table immediately.

Tool has built this legend status around him for having some success with a few really special athletes. Fact is by the time he was finished here he was on cruise control.

Simpson knows everything he knows and has proven the ability to teach it to his players. Simpson is far more energetic and diligent and waaaaayyyyy more focused and active in recruiting. There’s no secret sauce with position coaches.

Kul built his reputation on a bunch of 1-trick pony Missouri pass rushers. With him it's outside rip move and nothing else. Jacquies Smith, Michael Sam, Shane Ray, Kony Ealy, etc. He's good at identifying pass rushers to develop but he was always overrated with regard to technique development.

Joe Jackson's bullrush, inside rip move and inside spin are so much better this year. Last year it was outside move all the time when burst and bend aren't really his strengths. Simpson is the goods.

And to add to this, if Jess believes in these new NY DL, then I'm all in, because I have confidence that he will have done the real work of evaluation and recruiting.

Simply put, simpson is better because he teaches run stopping as a premium, coach kool d-lines have traditionally not be consistently good run stopping teams. Also coach simpson teaches d-line leveraging better, which allowed our d-linemen to be able to transition from run defense to pass rushing quicker. He's a better technician teacher than coach kool, our d-linemen kept having meetings in the opposing backfields.

He's actually enjoying it here, the pro's are overrated, and the talent level he'll be coaching here will continue to go hand in hand with what he's teaching and with coach diaz's scheme.

I said it from the spring that we'd be a better defense overall because we'll be a better run stopping defense cause coach simpson understands an teaches d-line techniqes better, shouts out to coach richt for hiring coach simpson, another great fit.

Agree with everything written here! Additionally, what DL recruit would not want to play and get developed here and by him?

I saw Bethel become better as the season when along. These DT's need to provide push and not let anything through. If they can mostly do that, our stud DE's, will clean it all up.

Yes sir and coach simpson will become more valuable next season when guys like ford and nesta become more important. Also, big boy bout to start oving o-linemen, i'm talking about the forgotten man, miller. When healthy, we're going to have terrorizers on the d-line, the work he did with rosseau as well, d-line not gone be our problem. Im just looking forward to the competition for the starting d-tackle spots come next year.

I wonder what Coach Simpson must think about our OL/OL Coach when his 2s and 3s are opening cans of whoop **** on Cereals'' 1s at practice.

Just look at Joe Jackson.

Busting at the seams with talent but took until this year to put it all together. Garvin played like a veteran. Willis was a freakshow.

Sounds like a better recruiter too based off of what the kids say

O was about to say something like this. No need now. All facts.
To add, the only viable DT Kul developed was Ziggy Hood at Mizzou and he was just another guy when he was with the Steelers.

I told you BEFORE the season that the goat-legged boy Simpson would be an upgrade over Tool. And I broke it down why. Tool is floating along on his rep from 5 years ago. Simpson is a hungry animal. All these position coaches these days, if they're at all diligent, know all the same techniques. There's no secret sauce. So the hungrier, more energetic guy wins.

Yeah, brother.

I don't agree with this.

His rep from 5 years ago?

Did you watch Bama this year? Quinnen Williams and Isaiah Buggs have been UNREAL under just an off-season with Kuligowski.

No matter what, Jess Simpson has already put in 10x the amount of time to recruiting than the previous 2 years. He has guys all over he has been talking to
Agree. Hope we somehow close stronger than I'm anticipating. Not just Jess's dudes, but entire class.

Couldn't agree more. Not sure why people think DT technique is rocket science. It's not. However, knowing how to plan, prep, practice, motivate, recruit, etc. is what really changes from coach to coach. Kul just wasn't hungry anymore.

Honestly think if Simpson could coach the tackles and have a DE coach you could maximize him as a coach. DE wont regress under Simpson but I think DT is the position he can truly mold. Man has kids from New York and New Jersey taking a serious interest in the program. Major ugrade in recruiting. My only critique would be the fact that our DE have not been keeping contain very well. Continue to leave the back door open this season.
