Silvera

Yes but that was to get Garvin on the field on 3rd downs....I just don't really see the benefit of putting your best edge rusher inside.

Chad was also a bit bigger than Garvin. I doubt we'll see this happen unless 2 other edge rushers emerge who are just ridiculously good, or out of complete necessity. Maybe for a couple snaps, but we were doing that in 2017 on basically every passing down.
They actually did it both years with chad. It wasn't for garvin. Chad jr year when he kicked inside on obvious pass downs they brought in joe. Chad sr year they brought in harris. Harris and joe both had 8.5 sacks in those roles.

When I start to feel too positive about how life is going I come to CIS to interact with some of the most negative people on earth!

Our defensive coordinator called losing him "a huge blow" on the radio this morning.

Again, why do our fans have to be so bi-polar? If there's any bad news like this, half the people say oh my god we need to cancel the season, and the other half think it's a complete non-issue and the kid stinks, he hasn't played, he's a backup etc. etc.

It can never be in the gray area around here. Spoiler alert: This falls in the gray area. It ABSOLUTELY is a big deal to lose this kid. If it's a very long period of time, i.e. season-ending, this is really big news. HOWEVER, if there are no other injuries at this position, it should be able to be absorbed well enough to not cause a huge problem...aka something that should significantly alter the direction of the season.

But make no mistake, Silvera was in Baker & Manny's plans to play A LOT this year at a very important spot. It's a blow, no question. Now Jordan Miller and probably one of the true freshmen are going to need to play at least a handful of snaps against the good competition with games in doubt.

What’s done is done.

Won’t know shlt until after the foot surgery.

In the meantime, it’s next man up. No excuses.

Spoiler alert: it’s football, there will be other injuries as well. Hopefully not, but there’s camp and then 12 games.

Count on them happening. More injuries this year are a statistical certainty.

As long as Chigozie is as was advertised we should be ok. Not saying Silvera stinks or is a world beater. As you said he is still a bit of an unknown. I think he would have definitely contributed this season and hopefully he still can.

Lol how are you imagining that??
Nascar Package. It's a way to get your best pass rushers all on the field at the same time. You're seeing them more and more. It really isnt that far fetched. No one said theyd slide inside full time. I'm not sure how anyone read it that way.

We have no elite pass rush from the interior. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to see a DE slide inside for a few plays per game to make up for this.

No one wants to see Silvera sit out the Gaytors game, but as for how "huge" a blow this is, know that not one casino budged its pointspread for our game after this news broke.

Not one. Not even the juice.

This doesn't mean anything. Nobody moves point spreads except QBs, and that's even moderate. Guess what? The gators best defensive players are CJ Henderson and Marco Wilson, agreed? Marco is coming off an ACL. If news came out today that he had a setback AND CJ Henderson was out for the Miami game, the line would move 0.0 points with 0.0 juice. None. Doesn't mean it's not significant.

And it's not just the gator game. You need depth for a season. The season is not 1 game.

That's not true, non-QB injuries/suspensions move lines all the time. Of course it'd be different if CJ Henderson or Marco Wilson were ruled out. The Gaytors are much thinner behind them than we are at DT and they're also clear cut starters who are much more proven than Silvera. He's largely unproven, he only had 13 tackles all last season. He can be supplanted in the interim.

We don't even know if Silvera was going to start.

Chad had some more size and did it a lot. I think Garvin could do it in limited spurts at ~260 provided Hill and someone else like Rousseau are legit pass rushers, IF they were to do something similar that we did with Chad/Joe is all I'm saying. Obvious passing situations.

Hill is definitely too small.

I just don't think it fits garvin game. I think That would really hurt his production as a pass rusher.

Bit of an extreme example, but when Bryce Love was ruled out for a Stanford game last year the line dropped over 7pts in the blink of an eye. Granted, that's Bryce Love and Stanford. But your statement that no one but QBs being ruled out causes lines to move is absolutely not true. It's all about impact. If Shaq was ruled out for 8/24, I guar-on-freakin-tee you that line would move. The reality is Nesta was likely not starting that night. So Vegas isn't going to look at that as a massive impact on the game. In fact, odds are high it likely won't have a huge impact on that game as we have depth there. I'm just bummed we didn't get to see Nasty Nesta go hunting for Taco Hotdog's head. I woulda taken a 15yarder all day long in return for Nesta punishing that dude!

Key words:

IF
Limited spurts

I'm not saying yes do it. I responded to the poster bringing it up, and the only potential candidate would be Garvin if they so choose IMO.

None of the ends are big enough for it imo but if patchan is 260 now maybe he could do it on 3rd downs.

Im a foot and ankle surgeon so here's my 2 cents:
If he's been playing on it since it happened its almost certainly soft tissue, not bone.
The most common soft tissue injuries to the foot (not ankle) wound be a split tear to the peroneus brevis or posterior tibial tendon. Possibly plantar fascia. If any of the above need repair he's out 3 months minimum per my protocol.
Bummed cause I expected him to start sometime this year. Maybe its a reality check and he learns to control his emotions...
His emotions caused soft tissue damage?

I probably should have said QBs and franchise players. Yes, a guy like Love who was a Heisman candidate and getting 35 carries a game will move a line. You’re right. A DT will not. In this particular game, I don’t think there’s a single player on either side except maybe Franks that’d move the line if they were out.
