Sideline Tension Between Dawson and Mario

I think it’s more depressing that we are even running plays like this! Are you kidding me?? Smh. That’s like a play from the “Doc Blanchard/4 horseman” days of college football! Good god! Was the hole there? Yes. Is this the most un-innovative play we have in our playbook? Yes. Both can be true.

Classic Neanderthal play call to gain a couple of yards.. we make everything so hard on ourselves

Plodding air raid offense is a frustrating watch.

Wanted this yr to be the yr that UM put all the pieces together. Fools gold is real.

Wanted to beileve that beck could reestablish himself as a 1 first rounder in already weak year for qb's but his play and it leadership is questionable.

Thought 11-1 or 10-2 is was possible but to guys that predicted 8-4 or 9-3 season yall got it .dont look fun looking down that gun barrel

Was mark fletcher hurt ? Fletch was getting 5 yards a pop.Why wasn't he running the ball in overtime? Brown had an easy walk in TD but missed the hole.
Beck isn’t an air raid QB.

There's multiple discussions on this play, as their should be, but without knowing the exact play call, it's tough to hammer Brown here.

For starters, there's 20 players within the RB's vision, and the NT already beat the double-team, so you're asking a lot of the RB to redirect away from the direction his WHAM blocker went, who also misses his block.

Brown isn't old school Lev Bell, and your extra blockers have been inconsistent, at best. This looks like a poorly executed reversion to tendency.

IMO, I don't think this play was going anywhere in real time. Bad call.

I was begging for a play action with a TE leaking out after blocking on this play and most of the other 3rd/4th and shorts.

Kiffin ran a reverse option on 4th and 1 on Saturday. Just give it to Toney on a reverse and let him either get 1 yd or pass it.

Brown had a similar bad run like this on 3rd and short against ND. We won so it was overlooked but it completely changed that ND game. Guess we see why he was at the FCS level.

But like some have said above. The play calling is beyond atrocious. I believe SMU had stopped us the last 2 times we ran this. They were selling out to stop it but we couldn't try something different?

So it's more of a physical dominant run game to set up some air raid concepts when the situation arrives?

Air Raid is as much about spacing and tempo as it is specific run plays or route trees. We don't run tempo, and we don't space out on every play to force the defense to cover the full field pass or run. The run plays are in most Air Raid offenses, BUT we don't teach our kids to bounce outside from A to B to C to D(if TE is in set) gaps. We also don't have wide splits for the OL, which isn't my complaint, but others hate it.

If we are going to run a simple offense to allow our best talent on the field:
1. Penalties should be limited because the offense is SIMPLE!
2. The best players should play: 87 is a massive question mark, 0 shouldn't be asked to go 1 on 1 deep, just two examples. This can get much more nuanced as it isn't just about who plays but who plays WHEN. Moore vs Marion on deep 1 on 1 routes, but then you have to find other plays to keep Moore on the field. Trader and Toney are two others who should have opportunities deep.
3. Tempo has to be used to limit the DC's input on calls and limit defensive rotations. To make it even worse, we have a road grader OL and have 4 WRs that can win 1v1 most of the time. I've said it for 3 weeks: run 4 WR sets and force the DC to pick between stopping the run or pass. We hardly do this, even with 6 kids that are good enough (Toney, Tony, Trader, Daniels, Moore, Marion) at WR. The pass concepts can be simple mirroring if it is that hard to implement, including 4 verts.
4. Stretch the field horizontally and vertically. After Trader's INT, we didn't throw deep until the Marion PI. We had 2 total "explosive plays": Marion 21 on an in-breaking route and Trader's TD. We had 2 other 15-19 yard passes. That is insane to me as a Miami fan when you look at SMU's passing defense stats... next to LAST, and it was last before our game.

i think the tension is because we aren't running I-left 57 iso enough
