SIAP: Insight Into Richt’s Last Year At UGA

In the Bible, there is a story of King David in his final years .... complacency, fatigue, compromise and lack of will to do the right thing... it doesn't end well

Hopefully, Richt has learned and will not make the same mistake

Here's a story about how savage JJ was....
This is JJs own words to DC Tom Olividatti in a Heated exchange after Shnelly left in 84, about the Superiority of the 4-3 D...compared to the 3-4....."Quote".....Look *******, the Selmon Brothers were All Americans in an upfield Pressure Defense at Oklahoma, while you were coaching at some place called Salesianum Prep school in F-ing Delaware..
Did you ever happen to wonder who might have thought up the Oklahoma upfield Pressure Defense that got the CFB Worlds attention?? all the way to Salesianum Prep in F-ing Delaware??....ME!!..
The point is, my scheme, with the right talent to execute it can disrupt ANY offense known....Now I know you don't believe that...but that's the way it'll be run under my watch......Olividatti resigned shortly after....
JJ was 100% Savage....No F's given....

JJ's teams played just like that too! Zero fks given.

Richt kinda admitted being mentally exhausted at UGA. He was put in a bad place where the AD made his hires. A guy like Pruitt saw the friction that was already there and took advantage. Alot of CMR's hires make sense now. Really hope we end up playing UT soon but that would mean we went 6-6 and got invited to the citrus bowl too.. Pruitt will get his!! These situations always come back to haunt guys like him.

He lost control of the program when he was told by administrators to take a more “hands off” approach to coaching. What example would he be showing to his players if he stoops to Pruitt’s level and goes after him?

Richt showed this year that he’s not afraid to speak his mind (see Wisconsin game), so there had to have been another reason for him not reacting.
This is correct. That is why he will never give up play calling here or give up power he has here nor should he. He is here because he can be himself and do what he wants . He couldnt at UGA the last 5 years.

Cot **** I hated Shiano's ***...Dude walked around like people were throwing Rose petals around where he walked....A real Tool

The excuses y'all making for Richt. My goodness. I'm going to call it was it is. Reading that was disturbing how a HC who had been there for 15 years let a newly hired DC take full control of his program with little resistance in front of his employers, other coaches, and players to the point it was clear to everyone involved.

Your the HC. You check everyone's attitude and ego at the door coach and player. Point Blank Period. Y'all can miss me with the excuses of what the admin did or did not do. What I read was a HC kneeling to a employee. That has nothing to do with the UGA admin. Richt is the boss he is suppose to check dude at the door or handle that situation when it present itself ESPECIALLY when it in front of your players. You can't be a softie and risk losing the respect of your players.. you just can't. It also show how dysfunctional your staff is and player won't trust them.

Also the hires seem to be flat out terrible. The most concerning hire is that he hired a S&C coach that appeared to not have any clue what he was doing. I also found it interesting how Richt let Manny hire people similar to how he let Pruitt hire people. If Manny had Pruitt's balls I wonder if Manny could do the same thing Pruitt did.

No one can read that and not be concerned. NO ONE.
Yeah because we have a totally incompetent s&c program lol

Pruitt deserves to be in a wheelchair today for the way he conducted (and still conducts) himself but it's a misleading narrative to say Rick could've nipped the situation in the bud at that specific instance. The time for bud nipping on his behalf was wayyyyyy before that and it involved not coaches but the AD and a lot of those around the program there.

Rick obviously only saw the better angels in a lot of the clowns in Athens and didn't seize complete ownership of that program when he could've and should've and it eventually came back to bite him- although it will end up being a blessing in disguise. He obviously has a public "partnership" with Blake, The Frenkinator and the BoT here but anyone thinking this ship isn't going to be navigated completely by him and his calls for better or worse is mistaken. That'll involve him never giving up playcalling. That'll involve him grooming Jon Richt. And that'll involve him giving whatever leeway he wants to Manny- not because it's mandated or he's intimidated or wary of conflict but because that's what he actually WANTS to do.

This is Rick's last stop. He's not going to suffer anything remotely close to the nonsense that went down in Athens. The dude will just walk wayyyyyy before that.
Great post and I agree completely. This is Richt's program. He is calling the shots, the plays , the moves whatever .

But at the same time...I'm still not sold on some of the playcalling, both on Off & Defense....I pray that before I die, I'll see more WRs in motion...and Sensible Blitz packages....When your LBers weakness is pass coverage, it's comical and suicidal to Blitz 7,000 times a game, without any disguises....How many times do you leave the entire middle of the field Wide open before you implement changes??

I played college football and reading that article....Richt essentially was cucked for his program. Which is truly bad considering the guy doing it ....didnt have nearly close to enough leverage to do so....but just seemed to be a hard ***. Richt was on cruise control at UGA foreal. The fact that dude was hiring offensive coaches and s&c coaches alone is bad..the players knew Pruitt was in charge.

Im glad that hes rejuvenatged being back home...and hopefully he learned from some of those mistakes. Even though he has Manny over their controlling his side similarly, Manny isnt as rough as the Pruitt guy and likely wont mutiny on him. Jeez that was tough to read...well atleast Part 1....a dc shuts down a spring scrimmage, cusses out the head coach...AND takes the football....THAT WAS HIS SH*t.

Also Richt assembled atleast some HITTERS on the offensive side if sh*t pops off....Thomas Brown is ready to stand up for him...Ole Dugans ready to pull up in the DONK...and his **** son. lol

But all jokes aside i see why he is/was apprehensive about bringing in some greybeard's on O..or those that would be opinionated based off of that read. Me personally i wanted him to bring in another greybeard on offense to add to his playbook with the extra hire.

You should be a motivational speaker and teach other people how to be great leaders.

I’m sure you’re a very successful leader yourself, commanding great respect, and I know you have achieved great things. You must be one of the very best at what you do. It shows by your well thought out and written posts.

The fact that Richt is considered a top 10 or so coach in college football is nothing compared to what I’m sure your accomplishments are. It’s clear you’re top 5 in the country in your field, far surpassing Richt.

It’s a shame Richt didn’t have you as his mentor and advisor when he was at UGA. You have a lot of wisdom, success and experience to offer to people who have already had succcess in their lives, like Richt. Except your accomplishments far exceed his.

The article is one man's opinion. I speak to many UGA fans and they all have the utmost respect and admiration for Richt. I don't know what did and didn't happen as there have been many different circumstances that have been alleged. 15 years is a long time, I expect Mark to have learned from a bad hire, allowed things to occur, but at the end of the day he is a CANE and has brought our program back to respect, I am interested to see how far he can take us without the sack of cash being distributed.

"Hocke and offensive line coach Rob Sale had been hires Jeremy Pruitt was viewed as responsible for making.... Hocke was loud, boisterous and many in the strength and conditioning world wondered if he knew what he was doing."

Richt did not hire the S&C coach... Also, wasn't one of Richt's selling points here was he had complete control of the program? To completely dismiss the admin and say Richt should have "check dude at the door" is just not how the real world works.

Living close by and watching that situation happen, Richt should have stood up to the totally incompetent AD McGoofy early on when he had the power to do so. The later years the AD provided no support and with a couple big boosters urging wanted Richt gone.

Couple fairly good size boosters I know both say Kirby was a done deal with UGA at least a year before Richt actually let go. Think that explains what he asked from Miami and was given and why he is excited to be where he is.

Butch Davis is a football God!
I'm dying here!! Scrolling through the thread...reading..all the sudden I see this post..and all I can picture in my head, is this guy sitting at a table reading a book,.. Listening to the banter in the room, back n forth, about how richt shouldve handled being in that situation. Suddenly, said guy shouts (straight up turrets style) ...BUTCH IS GOD!!!

Man we can only hope. People probably think I'm dogging Richt, but, come on, that article described something you would think happened on the Cleveland Browns organization not at a program with a HC who had been 'in charge' for 15 years. I'd think nothing of it if this happened in Richt earlier days since it was his first HCing job but for this to happen in your last year there after a 15 year stint. That's concerning.

Lets say Manny leaves whether he is fired or take a new job then Richt hires someone with Pruitt's similar personally and begins to act out, then what? Are we suppose to become dysfunctional program because the HC can't put his DC in his place? I really do hope Richt understand that he has to make sure people know that he is the boss. Letting people get out of line or talk down to you when your their boss often will lead to problems down the road.
