SIAP: Insight Into Richt’s Last Year At UGA

Letting people get out of line or talk down to you when your their boss often will lead to problems down the road.

I think the answer to your question is in your hypothetical... he would not hire someone with a personality similar to Pruitt, which is why he didn't hire Pruitt. That is why he asked for complete control at Miami.

You’re never too old to learn and grow if you’re smart. Rick went out of his way to avoid staff turmoil in his UM hires by hiring a bunch of guys who respect him and aren’t divisive personalities.

Did he go too far? Did he hire too many yes men? We shall see.

I don’t buy into the idea that Rick had no choice at UGA. Even if the AD hired those assistants without Rick’s consent, Rick still should have acted like the boss. And if the AD didn’t like it, then Rick should have told him, “If I can’t run the team the way I want and coach the players and coaches the way I want them you need to fire me.”

However, under no circumstances should a HC (or any boss for that matter) let his charges run him down publicly without dire consequences. I’m hoping the UGA debacle of the final couple seasons there was a great learning experience for Rick.
 
unfortunately for MR, in his prime years at UGA he had to deal with the 2 best coaches in football, ask Jim Harbaugh, Les Miles, and coumtless fired good coaches how that feels, sounds like the last 5 years the well dried up a bit and Richt ran out of gas

Exactly.....Can you imagine Olividatti acting like that to Howard?....or Wannstadt acting like that to JJ??....
 
THIS is one of many other reasons I wanted Butch....not only 3yrs ago....That puzzy *** tirade wouldn't have happened...and you can disagree with me all ya want...but Butch would've had a better staff...both offensively and defensively....I hope and pray like @Franchise said holds true....

I don’t be know exactly what happened at UGA. I’d suspect it was less dramatic than bloggers are making it sound. They’ve basically got Rick sitting in a corner pulling his limp dyck furiously while Pruitt hammers Rick’s wife and simultaneously shouts epithets at him.

It seems pretty clear though that Rick built his staff here with guys who respect him. AND that could also be a reason he’s been able to keep his entire staff together for 3 years which is pretty rare.

they aren't going anywhere if they're not qualified to be anywhere else

some of these guys would get laughed at when it comes to major programs: patke, banda, rumph..

I just hope richt is good at evaluating coaches and these guys shine through one day

One of the Main reasons I wanted Butch....not only for his recruiting evaluations...but his assistants as well...

It should be noted that Olivadotti was the jacka$$ who kept picking up his car keys and dropping them on the table at JJ's first meeting with the UM coaching staff.

Olivadotti thought he should have gotten the HC job when Schnellenberger left.

Mike Archer was no prince either. That's why JJ tried to DESTROY Archer and LSU in 1988.

Yes, but Olivadotti acted like that to JJ.

Difference is that Howard hired Olivadotti and JJ hired Wanny.

Olivadotti was forced on JJ and Pruitt was forced on Richt.

I don't know what did and didn't happen as there have been many different circumstances that have been alleged. 15 years is a long time, I expect Mark to have learned from a bad hire, allowed things to occur, but at the end of the day he is a CANE and has brought our program back to respect, I am interested to see how far he can take us without the sack of cash being distributed.

I live next door tp UGA fans and they have, to this day, the utmost respect for CMR and were devastated when he left.
 
I believe CMR handled Pruitt's outburst perfectly. When a situation arises like that, a great leader doesn't add fuel to the fire in front of the TEAM you're leading. Confronting Pruitt in the moment would have reduced CMR to his level and lost the respect of his team. A great leader takes the person with the issue to a private place and discusses the situation in PRIVATE. The next day, Pruitt apologizes for the outburst. That tells me that he and CMR had a private discussion and resolved the issue to some extent.
 
I live in the heart of UTK country. The fans are concerned about the Pruitt hire. They were desperate after the fiasco of them trying to hire a new HC after the dumpster fire botch jones left them with. They even appointed Fat Phil Fulmer the AD after they fired him about 10 years ago hoping he could bring some stability to the program. I watched Pruitt's introductory presser on the local station and it was hilarious. A'ight at the end of every sentence. It's telling to me Pruitt never lasted more than a few years at any stop.
 
Hit piece sensationalism by UGA to muddy Richt a little and push the supposed alpha new coach Kirby Smarts as the next best thing — just trying to throw shade on Richt and derail him a bit down here....

Who gives a **** what happened 3 years ago. Richt is deeply involved in the team on the field now and wont let that happen again.

Pruitt wont be at Tenn very long because all he is is another Derek Dooley. A hard nosed Saban disciple that can recruit but cant coach. Tennessee will find that out very soon and will fire him by year 3.

That said, who cares what happened at UGA his final year? It was a **** show. Everyone knows it..We should be glad he was "fired" because we would have Dan Mullen as our HC right now as many said he was the second choice.

And to the people who have said he has surrounded himself with "yes men" here..that might be true but I don't give a **** about that either. As long as they can coach and develop our players (which all have proven they can) then we should not be concerned. The only coach who is really even close to being a question mark is Searles and I give him a pass until he gets his guys across that OL. Everyone else has worked out fine up to this point.
 
I have more respect for Coach Richt than just about any man I’ve been around. By no means is he “soft” like he’s portrayed in the media and he’ll rip into players if need be. But he does it in a constructive manner and is always teaching and doesn’t tear guys down.

I’m not surprised that he didn’t get into with coach Pruitt on the field because that’s not the example he wants to set, but I can bet you he MF’d Pruitt in private
