We can recruit anywhere - but it makes a difference.

Think about it, you can have family and friends attend a few of your games a year if you are from Louisiana or Alabama and we are in the SEC, or none at all if we are in the B1G…

That will impact recruiting for sure. Mama Fletcher is a prime example - she was willing to drive to Stanford to see her kid play. How many moms are willing to do that?
With NIL, top end recruits can easily pay for their parents to fly to the games they want. What's your point? Keep in mind that Miami aggressively recruits places like NJ and the eastern seaboard, those parents would be able to make more games, so your point balances out. In the big picture, it makes far more sense for Miami to join the B1G.

Should the University of Miami's decision-makers take into account what's preferable/most convenient for the vast majority of UM's players and their families or what's preferable/most convenient for a quite a few alumni?

Pretty safe bet which option Mario would choose
Alumni are the primary donors, you may want not want to alienate them. Keep in mind, our student body also comes from the eastern seaboard, joining the B1G is a HUGE marketing opportunity for us, because it gets us in the face of the kind of prospective student that has historically attended the University. We want those top end kids from places like Maryland, NJ, NY, PA, etc. Us going to Mississippi, Alabama and Missouri does nothing in that regard.

Once again, joining the B1G makes far more sense, especially if you actually look at the overall University, as well as the athletic department. Miami wouldn't be some outlier institution, we actually fit there.

Taxing enough that East Coast NFL teams will stay out West for a week rather than return home if they have back-to-back games in that part of the country. The sports medicine experts have determined jet lag, sleep disruption and spending even 10 hours back-and-forth on a flight takes a severe toll on athletes competing on an elite level
The poor EQ truck driver who has to drive from Miami to Seattle lol

Go **** yourself.

Anyone can say anything they want. Two games does not equal representation of a conference, no matter what "patch" is sewn on the jersey.

Sheer stupidity. We were an independent in every meaningful way. We shared no conference revenue. We have no conference championship trophy. Not a single player from the 1991 team considers themselves to have played in the Big East Conference in 1991. We did nothing except play two teams that were already on our schedule.

But, yeah, if you want to lick some Big East balls, be my guest.
I didn’t know there was so much hate for The Big East. I mean, weren’t those better times for us? Something about its demise made College Hoops a little less interesting. A lot of great rivalries on the BBall court. Syracuse and UConn was a good one.

I much prefer the SEC. Way better conference for sports by every measure, and keeps us from having to travel west coast.

Only 7 choices ……… I need more options, just can’t decide.

Nearly 80% of the entire locker room comes from SEC country (Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, and North Carolina).

NJ isn’t going to make that up…

Yeah “anyone can say anything they want”. That’s what you are doing making **** up you moron…You’re talking out of your A$$. The information is straight from the University and you’re still in denial?

You're a clueless dip****, as per usual.

Your "information straight from the University" states that we accepted a bid to join a newly-formed Big East. It does not say that we played a Big East conference schedule in 1991 (we did not). It does not say that we won the Big East Conference in 1991 (we did not). It does not say that we played in the Orange Bowl as the conference champ representative of the Big East (we did not).

IN FACT, if anyone deserves to call themselves the "Big East champion" in 1991, it would be Syracuse, who went 5-0 against "Big East opponents" in 1991, beating 5 of the other 7 teams in the Big East except for Miami (2-0 against Big East teams) and Virginia Tech (1-0 against Big East teams). Last time I checked, 5-0 is better than 2-0 and 1-0. Good lord, imagine Virginia Tech had won the national championship in 1991 and claimed to represent the "Big East" after playing ONE GAME against a Big East team...

IN FACT, the reason that Miami was in the Orange Bowl was its #1 ranking, not its Big East membership. The reality is that if everyone was being honest, Miami should have been playing in the Sugar Bowl against #3 Florida, because the Rose Bowl was #2 Washington against #4 Michigan. Had Miami beaten #3 Florida instead of #11 Nebraska, it is very likely that there would NOT have been a split national championship, as the coaches poll had Washington at #2 BEFORE the Rose Bowl and only vaulted Washington to #1 after they beat #4 Michigan. Instead, #3 Florida had to play #18 Notre Dame in the "Cheerios Bowl" (due to the comment a waiter supposedly told Irish head coach Lou Holtz at a restaurant that "the difference between Cheerios and Notre Dame is that Cheerios belong in a bowl."). ****, Florida would have had a legitimate shot at the national championship had they beaten Miami and Michigan beaten Washington.

Yes, we wore a "patch" to "represent" the fact that we played TWO WHOLE GAMES against Big East teams. That doesn't make us a Big East conference representative. Syracuse was more of a Big East representative, they were two games away from playing a full Big East schedule.

Look, the Big East was what it was. A half-measure. Were those "good times"? I remember going 0-18 in the Big East for basketball. So, I don't know...and we didn't even play a full conference schedule for football in 1991 and 1992, going to those bowl games based solely on our ranking and our overall record, not a conference championship. The only time we properly represented the Big East as a conference and national champion was in 2001.

We didn't make much money in the Big East. We had some good times AND some bad times in the Big East. And, ultimately, the Big East refused to listen to the very good suggestions made by Tad Foote and Donna Shalala, going so far as to blame us and sue us for the inevitable collapse of the Frankenstein monster.

Is that hate? No. But I'm also not going to be "conference-proud" of beating TWO Big East teams in 1991.

Where did I say that NJ was going to make up for it? Where did I say that Miami would stop recruiting the South in general? What I actually SAID was that we have historically done well in regards to recruiting the eastern seaboard, those kids are very receptive to what the University of Miami offers. That said, Miami will still continue to recruit the south, because of geography and existing ties.

We've recruited the south well even without being in the SEC(We all know that the kids that say "I picked so and so over Miami is because of the SEC" are usually making an excuse, it's not usually true) and as long as Miami continues to make a financial and staffing commitment to the program, that won't change. Outside of flawed conference strength arguments(The SEC is not better than the B1G, especially in the NIL era), there's absolutely nothing that indicates that Miami HAS to be a member of the SEC.

You can write as many essays and paragraphs you want. Spin it to make yourself feel better. Miami has 3 championships as an independent per the University of Miami…… But some loser like yourself says other wise. Clueless…….

Every conference we have been in (Big East, ACC) has had a strong presence in the South.

Look at the ACC right now - Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia… if we move to the B1G, not a single one of those is represented. That’s a massive shift.
