Show Your Work or STFU: A UM Conference Poll

When the dust settles on conference realignment, how does it end for UM?

  • UM to the B1G... SOON (on or before 12/31/2027)

  • UM to the B1G... EVENTUALLY (on or after 1/1/2028)

  • UM to the SEC... SOON (on or before 12/31/2027)

  • UM to the SEC... EVENTUALLY (on or after 1/1/2028)

  • UM to go Independent... SOON (on or before 12/31/2027)

  • UM to go Independent... EVENTUALLY (on or after 1/1/2028)

  • UM stays in the ACC (at least through the current contract)

How about idgaf as long as we don't take any prove it deals with the p2(along with a couple of other considerations) or if we go independent, get as much money guaranteed or upfront as you can. Prolly too long I guess.

Thanks @No_Fly_Zone!!!

My prediction: Canes announce by May 2027 that we're leaving the ACC -- and will play our last football season in the ACC in either 2027 or worst-case scenario 2028

Thus, technically speaking, the dust will have settled by 12-31-2027 and we're just riding things out until the move.

Destination: SEC

The biggest reason comes down to the ultimate decision-maker on this matter. I think Joe E will defer to Mario and Mario will be in favor of the SEC and that will be that.

Yeah, an "announcement" and a the "actual move" aren't the same thing ... I'm looking at it as we'll know for sure where we're going by 12/31/07

You would be looking at it in a manner that employs sound logic and reasoning. Even with an announcement by the end of this year it would be highly unlikely for the actual move to occur within the dates listed. Texas, for example, took almost 3 years between accepting the SEC invitation and actually joining the SEC.

Why would Mario favor the SEC?

Why would Mario favor the SEC?

1. Much less travel
2. Guaranteed to play FSU/UF on a regular basis
3. Helps with recruiting in ATL, DFW, HOU and anywhere else in the South
4. Would make recruiting easier in SoFla (and the rest of the state, too)
5. Nick Saban is in his ear pushing the SEC
6. Mario likely believes the SEC is better and isn't the type to run from a challenge
7. Much less travel
8. Much less travel

Thank you for a thoughtful answer.

Selfishly, thats what I would prefer. The factors you may not be considering are academics and NIH $, both of which are much higher in the B1G.

Yeah, the Canes have gotten enough of those non-Saturday games in the ACC to last a good while

Not arguing with you, but we requested many of the non Saturday games - we wanted Stanford first and on a Friday due to travel, another due to the ****** holidays, etc. Additionally, part of the appeal we have to the B1G is that we can host night games in the winter.
