shoutout to will harris

I think Haulcy would be playing instead of Poster.
Allowed him to take a season to adjust and then be a star next year.
Just thinking.
They paid Poyser very good money to get him he wouldn’t have been on the bench. Probably would’ve played some nickel

There isn’t a single safety in the nation playing better than him, including Caleb Downs. CBS Sports named Caleb Downs and AJ Haulcy as midseason All-Americans at safety, but I’d argue that Thomas has been more productive against stronger competition and he’s done it in one fewer game.

Let’s compare production vs opponents

Jakobe Thomas
— vs 3 Top-25 teams (ND, USF, FSU) & 1 preseason Top-25 team (Florida)
20 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 INT, 2 PBUs (5 games played)

Caleb Downs — vs 1 Top-25 team (Illinois) & 1 preseason Top-25 team (Texas)
28 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, 0 fumble recoveries, 1 INT, 0 PBUs (6 games played)

AJ Haulcy — vs 1 Top-25 team (Ole Miss) & 2 preseason Top-25 teams (Florida & Clemson)
39 tackles, 0 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 0 fumble recoveries, 1 INT, 1 PBU (6 games played)

*preseason top 25 teams listed are teams that were ranked in the preseason and are no longer ranked*

Ohio State and LSU both have bye weeks this week, so Jakobe Thomas has a chance to make up ground in tackles and further distance himself in the other categories. With the remaining ACC schedule, Thomas has a very good chance to earn First-Team All-America honors by the end of the season.
Pretty sure LSU plays Vandy this week.

You're probably right.
Maybe a rotation? Since it's always a bit of a gamble.
Get three proven safeties and see which is the best? And if they're all good rotate?

Just spitballing.

poyser was a big time get when we got him ... but we did a tremendous job of attacking the secondary in the portal

i've said it in other threads, but I honestly think JThomas has been our #1 portal addition. Obviously Beck is the key to the engine on offense and I get that people say he's #1, but Thomas is always in the right spot and is seemingly in on every play on the defensive side of the ball.

I've been beyond impressed with the play from the Safety room and would say that has been the biggest turn around from last year to this year.

Nice highlights of Jakobe ....His play spoke volumes and a good uno reverse card , the way he terrorized FSU. That was our get back for that 2014 Jalen Ramsey.

Irrelevant but FYI Texas is top 25 again at # 21

watching tape and our safety play his been incredible ... they tackle in the open field ... the fill the alley ... closing speed ... and harris's energy on the sideline has been awesome

thomas has played himself in high draft pick conversation
poyser has caught up to the speed of this level
fitzgerald is another case of dmoney and pete telling the truth based on green tree performance

harris deserves some flowers
biggest turn around on the team from last year

I’ve actually been thinking this I just didn’t say it

Caleb Downs is elite. There’s no question about it

He hasn’t really had too many eye popping plays though this year. I mean the defense is crazy elite so maybe it’s just from teams avoiding him

But as far as “oh ****” moments #8 has been as good as anyone if not better

Koi Perich has also struggled a bit this year (I think at least twice he has posted his worst PFF grades of his career)
