shoutout to dawson

I'll be the negative one....I like diversified looks instead of running right up the middle. But we don't have an offensive identity and the play calling was like a 16 year old playing Madden. Didn't seem like we were setting up plays, attacking mismatches....we were all over the board. Really good runs on the edge, then run a reverse flea flicker? How about play action?

Our identity first 8 games was run run run. Now it's gimmick plays?

TrumpyCane wants to know if you've seen 16 year olds plauy Madden these days
They light up the scoreboard

He called a good game. He's a good OC. If he doesn't return, we will probably wish he did - please prove me wrong Mario and hire the Hetherman of OCs if Dawson moves on.

I have some nits I could pick with him this year, but I feel strongly that the biggest issue with the offense this year is that 3 skill guys (Lyle, Lofton, Trader) we were counting on to create explosive plays and keep the defense honest (along with having substantial counting stats) have actually been net negatives when they've been on the field. That's not a Dawson problem

Beck also played one of the worst games at QB you can play against UL. Also not a Dawson problem.

It's amazing how different the run game looks when you have a RB that has good vision and looks to press the edge. Dawson has been calling the same stuff all year, the major changes to the run game of late is Pringle and some well designed gadget plays, plays that give the defense something else to think about.

Pringle has shown that this run game can work, if you are looking to break big plays, instead of pounding teams into submission. Fletch is a pounder, Marty is a pounder, Lyle just doesn't seem to have the vision right now. Pringle is a pure runner.

we finally got some imagination ... we have to play like that every week ... we have to stay in our bag and keep teams on their toes ... also credit to whoever said pringle is starting ... i was a supporter of him getting more touches, they said **** it, he starting, suddenly our running game has life again ... on a different note, wish schott was healthy, cuz man
Poor guy goes from getting his tires slashed one week to edible arrangements and shout outs the next…😂😂😂

The blocking schemes are markedly different than they were before week 11. Yesterday saw even more OL pulling, runs designed to bounce outside, etc. indefensible that our running attack wasnt balanced like this all season.

This is arguably a top 5 offense we've had in the last 20 years

Is Dawson the best offensive coordinator in the country? No. He's solid and shows a willingness to adapt. How different would this offense look if we inserted Pringle earlier? He's what we hoped Lyle to be, but due to injury or whatever he failed to live up to those expectations.
I’m not a Dawson lover or hater. Not placing blame on him or Beck or Mario. But just wanted to point out that we haven’t broken 30 against any team with a pulse, except G5 USF.

This years offense is a different version of TVD’s half year starting after he took over bc of injury. Guy lights it up and then when he starts sucking the next year you realize he was only good bc he played 6 defenses that were all bottom tier or were missing half their starters (NCST).

Mario and company started listening to the friendly fire rat poison to quit playing scared football on offense. Dawson slept good last night.

It's mind-boggling to think that we have a 6'6 330 lb Cici who can actually run, and we weren't pulling him on counters more often to overload teams with mass and speed. Same with Samson at G, he can run too. We're not just big, we can move!

I have a lot of questions. Pringle being the scout team RB being another one. I know it’s only 2 games but the kid looks like he sees the game and moves at a different speed than everyone else. How do you not give him snaps all season.

The fact that Dawson is finally doing what I’ve been telling him to do don’t mean sh/t to me. He cost us 2 games already.
Better late than never but point taken. Honestly, after the ND game, this should have been done. Everyone knew the scheme was a problem even when we were winning. It came back to haunt us.
