shout out to mc on game management

He almost blew it saving the timeouts at the end.

Did we ever confirm that clock coach he allegedly hired actually exists?
I know there are alternative scenarios...there always are...but Mario made the right and best call. In the moment...I was with you...but nah. They were going for haymakers and wanted time off the clock. Leave a little on the clock, Andy puts it on the streets, and they start dead stop with a QB with a concussion...good strat. But I feel you.

Also...bet coaches think of the 2m warning as the first free timeout, not just an extra in hand in scenarios like that. The 2m warning is new.

It was the right call by far. Saved the timeout incase they got the first down.

It's been a masterclass in game and time management this season so far.

Masterclass this season is a bit much. I remember a timeout (against Ball State or FAMU) on 4th and 4ish in their territory, where we took the timeout to avoid a delay of game just to punt. That was a terrible call... but other than that no egregious missteps. Definitely improved and worth complimenting

I thought not calling time out before the 2 minute warning was going to F us. But it end up being a good decision.

He still imo calls some head scratchers of TO’s.. but he’s gotten much better.

You absolutely call the timeout before letting 30 seconds run off before the two minute warning. It is basic math. It is the wrong decision. Don’t care if it ended up working out. You can’t excuse a bad decision because it didn’t bite us

Don’t wanna be a mope here and don’t wanna take away from what the staff and kids did. They made that comeback happen, they should all be applauded. Genuinely. Every single member of the organization should be very proud today.

That being said, we really shouldn’t be patting people who make $8M a year on the back for making a call that should be made 100.0% of the time. Literally. You’re down 19. There’s a big laminated sheet that tells you what to do. I’m glad he did it, obviously. But this is a decision a high school JV coach doesn’t even think twice about. Good call, Mario. You proved you can make the right (and only) one.
