First of all I find myself checking the vibe out here on this sight at least three times a day. There is alot of knowledge and Hurricane passion here and I love it. Of the many things I have learned from these pages, the thing that sticks out the most to me is player development. I have to admit, that before spending time on this site, I judged these young players by the stars they have been awarded by the recruiting services (I'm not knocking them, but some are better than others). Several posters on this site have pointed out that player development is more important than the star acquisitions and I find myself agreeing with them. I saw a 5 Star LB in the 2014 class (FSU commit) competing against a kid that at the time was barely a 3 star in the same class (Darrion Owens). At the end of that scrimmage I knew that these recruiting services where not astronomers, because they had mis-aligned some significant stars. It would have been obvious to Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles that Darrion was a much better LB, Football Player, Athlete and Person than the 5 star. Again these services put in work and sometime, the only thing we have to go on, about a player are the stars they are adorned with. However I know for a fact that with the proper development, that 3 star will out shine that 5 star any day of the week. I watched the Hudl film of all the LBs listed in Rivals 2016 Top250 and started comparing them to Shaq's film... but then I thought I would be bias, so I started comparing them to Mike Pinkney's footage (still a bit bias) and honestly I felt that most of the LBs on the list are not as good as Mike and again I realize the stars have been mis-aligned. I'll get to my point before this turns into a novel... The staff at Miami needs to be confident in which ever scheme that they decide to execute and commit to it. Find the players they know will fit into that scheme both physically and mentally (don't have to look far, they are right in the back yard ask Schnellenberger) and developed them regardless of the stars they have acquired and WIN. Florida and in particular South Florida is one of the greatest pools for football players. If you don't believe just look at the hometown on some of the rosters in the league. It so thick with talent that alot of the athlete are over shadowed. IMO a 3 star in FL is = to 5 star in other parts of the country (again I'm a bit bias), for example the DE Shelton Johnson is a diamond in the rough... get him and develop another NFL stud. Shooting Stars are not that important take a look at the SeaHawk's Roster - http://nationalhsfootball.com/2014/01/how-the-seattle-seahawks-players-were-ranked-in-high-school/

Me and Coach Arthur would consistently talk about how underrated Darrion is. People don't realize this man is a stud

MT6 is a absolute stud. Can't hate on him considering his mom forced him to fsu.

Going to cringe when I see him playing starting this year.

Wasn't Perryman a 3 star also? This is why we are supposed to know about everyone in our backyard. We are supposed to be the experts on kids in SoFl. Rating don't mean anything except for a general idea of how good a class is. For the most part 4 star guys do better than 3 star guys... But obviously these rankings aren't perfect and that is why you see us getting 3 star guys, because we are supposed to be the experts on SoFl recruits, and while rivals might think they arent a 4 star, our staff should know better than anyone how good these guys actually are.

None of the current Seahawks players are from SoFl so obviously the diamonds-in-the rough from elsewhere can be developed into championship caliber performers :)

Also, this team's success is very dependent on the highly ranked players- Duke, Coley, Howard, Bush, Burns, Flowers, etc....I'll take my chances with the 4 and 5* players. Of course SoFl will be our recruiting base but we need to go anywhere to fill our needs.

We'll obviously the chances are greater that 4 stars will be better than 3 stars. I think the point is more of getting 3star guys from SoFl isn't necessarily bad. I mean everybody wants high rated guys, but sometimes the lower rated guys are better. People need to not put blind faith in ratings, a lotta ppl think if guys aren't 4 star or higher they shouldn't be in our recruiting class, but that's just false.

He wasn't referring to thomas dude. Hes talking about the stiff hopped I'd from Jacksonville that went to fsu. I think daub is who it is

Dude was at the top of UGAs board. They thought they were getting a major steal, and we swooped right in on a SEC school. UGAs LB coach is a beast evaluator also, he thought the world of Owens. Owens and the other three stars, excluding Mayes is what set this class apart from Al's earlier classes. Our three stars in 2014 were studs not just filler.

You cant rate what a kids got between his ears and in his chest and thats gonna mean a lot more to their development than an inch or two or .1 seconds like we flip out about. Its also hard to guess how much bigger a kid can or will get, most of them aren't done growing.

Thats part of why getting the guys that are just no brainer studs, the Yearby's, Mcdermotts, CT99 type guys is so important. SO Fla has more than its fair share of sure things, and while its important to be getting developmental guys into the program and them panning out, we also have good access to some cold blooded athletic killers and we've gotten a reasonable share of them IMO.

BTW i agree that Owens looks the part and have heard nothing but rave reviews about character so im banking on him being a beast. Might need a year to work on those lb instincts but wtf do i know.

Perryman was a 3 star...enough said when it comes to Rivals and their ranking credibility.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts UknowWhat...once agin you are level headed and able to look far beyond the recruiting circus and focus on what is best for your family. Whether or not your son comes here (I really hope he sticks) I just want to say thank you from the entire Cane family for being a positive influence in your sons life. It is a breath of fresh air when it come to this crazy game called recruiting.

UknowWhat: glad to have you around. Great site and you add substantially to the dialogue and information on here. Much appreciated.

I will be very curious to get your impressions of the ongoing development of players at the U in a few years. There is a lot of healthy debate (and some unhealthy) on player evaluation, scheme, talent, and development. For someone like myself who grew up loving the canes since diapers but never had an opportunity to play football, it is sometimes hard to evaluate the opinions of other posters and draw a reasonable conclusion.

Obviously there are certain things that Shaq will share with you that shouldn't leave your confidence, but to the extent that you are willing to share your impressions of the way our staff works (as you already have with recruiting visits) I would very much appreciate the insight. Having the grounding of a player's perspective rather than just poster x's opinion is always helpful.

UknowWhat write all you want. We love your stuff. I agree completely about Owens, was very excited to get him last year and expect him to land on the scene with monster season this year. Love the scouting reports from JAX. I am firm believer in attacking the enemy's homeland and taking kids from JAX hits three at once--the swamp scum, ciminoles and our own Cane son's dogs. Mike is gone to take care of him mom, but another Cane with couple NC rings has slid over to coach so your son remains in good hands.
