Shaq " 5 star " ?

Does it really matter if he gets the 5th star? We know we have impact player coming in a few weeks and will probably get PT this year.

What's keeping him from his 5th star? He argubely could be the best mlb in this 2016 class . Imo he will be an impact player his first year at MIami.

look star ranking is bull**** and is only there for some kids to make special tv appearances for their announcements and get some publicity..... the moment you step on campus there is no favoritism and everybody starts at the ground floor...... its your dedication, passion, and willingness to learn that will make you a coveted player for nfl teams.......

some of the best to ever play at Da U where low 4 stars, 3 stars, and **** even 2 star prospects.... miami is built on miami kids who want to make a better life for themselves and shine and also to leave neighborhoods where drugs and violence is a way of life.... the old canes had swagger because they came from tough backgrounds and wanted to be great so they wouldnt have to see that lifestyle again......

if richt cleans up miami and souh florida than we will be back hunting for championships in 2 years...... these kids are hungry to succeed and have a better life..... those are the kids who we need to get back to the top..... star rankings is just a waste of time and tells you nothing about the kids......

I grew up in miami and see what these kids go through..... build your team on the dedication of these kids and back to winning titles..... throw the stars and espn rankings out the window

That has already been proved to be false. I think your statement was true before 2010, but most have worked out since then.

These were/are good-to-great players who were 5*
2010: Robert Woods, Shariff Floyd, Dominique Easley, Jordan Hicks, Seantrel Henderson, Jackson Jeffcoat, Josh Shaw, Ja'Wuan James, Michael Dyer, Lamarcus Joyner, Matt Elam, Marcus Lattimore, Keenan Allen, Dee Milliner, William Gholston, Owamagbe Odighizuwa, Ronald Powell
17/21

2011: Jadeveon Clowney, Cyrus Kouandijo, La'el Collins, Timmy Jernigan, De'anthony Thomas, Aaron Lynch, Karlos Williams, Anthony Johnson, Sammy Watkins, Stephone Anthony, Isaiah Crowell, Nick O'Leary, Jarvis Landry, Ha-Ha Clinton Dix, Braxton Miller, Sedric Flowers
17/22

2012: Mario Edwards, DGB, Landon Collins, Arik Armstead, DJ Humphries, Shaq Thompson, Malcom Brown, Eddie Williams, Kyle Murphy, Stefon Diggs, Noah Spence, TJ Yeldon, Eddie Goldman, Dante Fowler, Ronald Darby, Deontay Greenberry, Adolphus Washington, Eli Harold, Darius Hamilton, Gunner Kiel, Trey Williams
21/25

2013: Too much to write. 26/32 with 7 potential 1st rounders.
2014: Too much to write. Noticeable names; Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook, Adoree Jackson, Travis Rudolph, Jalen Tabor, Nick Chubb, Quin Blanding, Speedy Noil, Kyle Allen, Jabril Peppers, Cameron Robinson, Myles Garrett.
2015: Too early to tell.

I don't care how many times it's said or who says it. Travis Rudolph was not a 5 star kid. He was a PERFECT example of the large subscription fan base getting a player a extra star he didn't deserve. And **** I forgot about 3 star talent Ermon Lane ... gtfoh Rivals. And dudes was on here saying he was elite... bull****..

Is it really that important?
Shaq doesn't think so...If he was not committed he would have the 5th Star...His commitment is more important

UKnow,

I hear Vilma, Beason, and Dan Morgan never got over missing that 5th-star.
Never mind that they went to an awesome school, played at one of the most prestiguous
football programs and later logged a bunch of years in the NFL earning alot of money
and playing in big games.
That 5th-star earned from a panel of morbidly obese men who queerly follow and social media
stalk 17-18 year olds all day from their mom's basement is all that really mattered to these
stud LBs.

//above was sarcasm for the potatoe crowd

If I understand, part of the determination of 5* has to do with having the measurable to project (at 18 years) as a future NFL pro-bowler. They only give 5* to guys they are comfortable projecting as stars...if you think about how hard that is to do it makes sense that they name very few of them per year. I wouldn't get too wrapped up in that last star.

Rivals national guy made it sound like Shaq was a bit of a liability in space/ coverage .

I meant to ask poppa Q about this but forgot
Shaq is alot more atheletic than you have seen ...he lead his Jr High in rushing and touchdowns ...the other two running backs from Jr High one had 1400 yds this year and the other over 800 yds...no one on their HS time plays both ways..his gift if he had one is to understand whats going on...i would bet if the Defense change drastically ...from what I've seen...He will be the first to pick it up

I really don't have a judgement on Shaq in space , that's why I wanted your opinion . I haven't seen him in coverage a lot on film, or footage of him at camps.

I guess he fits the stereotype of the typical mlb thumper, could that be a possibility ? They're basing their judgements more on body type , downplaying his athletic ability ?

So that's your point? Because the rankings are sometimes wrong, they are complete crap? NOBODY knows who will work out and who won't, but those star rankings do a much better job of predicting success than you can, so maybe get off your high horse. Look at the numbers- they're right a lot more than they're wrong.

No offense to Shaq, but if I was giving out a fifth star to a LB'er in this class, it'd be to another LB'er.

Question to dad, does he play with mean intentions? He's a big guy, but I'd like to see him drive through people more. I didn't know he played both ways, so perhaps that's a case of saving a bit of energy and not trying to kill people out there? I hope my question makes sense.

My point is guys who commit to certain schools get a higher ranking than other players just because of a large subscription base on Rivals. McCloud's tape jumps off the screen but when you look at Ermon Lane's tape it just looked like the tape of a serviceable D1 wr. One was 5 stars and one is 3. McCloud on the FSU commit list...at least a 4 star. They also only give so many 5 stars in a geographic area. What if in a particular year there are 7 5 star talent players in a small area? Rivals doesn't give them 5 stars just because the players play too close together. So if you think that those two things lead to an accurate ranking of the players you sir are lost and cannot be found. And am I on my high horse because I actually understand how Rivals works and have common sense? In that case you need to get on your high horse before you discuss this subject with me.

I know its just a highlight so take it with a grain of salt but Hit by Shaquille Quarterman - Shaquille Quarterman highlights . Not Exactly Denzel Perryman but it looks like he is willing to lay some hits on people.

Have you seen him play at all?

. Denzel came in around 205 pnds this kid is 240 he has way more up side than Denzel/ This kid will be an number one draft pick . He is big and fast and lowers the boom . Like to see Gus tippy toe in the hole when be playing lb ,might give him a one way trip to the hospital back up north

Don't care how many stars he got, shaq and McCloud instantly improve our lb depth and will make an immediate impact!

I admit that there are probably other considerations that go into the rankings besides measurable and play. That said, I believe that this system is fairly accurate. As I mentioned earlier, I prefer ESPN over rivals as I believe them to be more accurate. That's just a feeling I have based on what I think is reasonable (for example, I think there are fewer 5* and far more 4* than rivals has listed), I'm far from an expert. It is also my view that some of the ranking is based on measurable and a guess as to the future success of the player. While not being familiar with Lane's tape I would say that maybe they thought he had a lot of potential as opposed to having been great as yet.

If I recall, ESPN had Duke as a 4*. I would argue that he's the most talented player at the U in many years. I think he's a 5* college player and a 4* NFL PLAYER. There are many guys out of Miami who will do as well as Duke in the league, but none in 10 years who were as good in college. So what rating do you give him? Depending on how you look at it, he could be 4 or 5*.

AtrainCane, Ermon Lane is a bad example because he was already a 5 star, at least high four before he committed to UF and was considered a Miami lean.

How are recruiting rankings determined? ESPN, Rivals, Scout and 247 break out the process | AL.com
Breaks down how different services rate players. Includes this gem...

"Critics of recruiting rankings are quick to reference the two-star or three-star prospect who far outperformed his ranking. These examples happen every year and will continue to happen every year.

"But recruiting rankings continue to be good predictors of future success. There are always exceptions, but the schools that sign the best recruiting classes typically have the most on-field success. The last three national champions -- Ohio State, Florida State and Alabama -- have all done a terrific job signing top-rated recruiting classes. A 2014 SB Nation story showed that every BCS champion since 2005 signed more four and five-star prospects than lesser-ranked players. "

Shaq almost murked a couple kids this year.

He hit a QB so hard that the kid landed five yards away from where Shaq hit him. His closing speed and sudden impact are elite, in my opinion.

LOL @ some people opinion of "ideal measurements".

Shaq's measurements are plenty ideal. I'd almost be willing to say that he could afford to lose a few pounds. 240 is a huge high school LB.

Jeff Luc was a 5-star and he had roughly the same size. There could be various reasons why Shaq doesn't have a 5th star. Didn't attend enough camps. Not enough exposure to the slappies who create rankings. Struggles in space. Who knows. Who cares. The eye in the sky don't lie. The kid can play football.
