Shannon

Shannon was the better coach, he didn't get half of the support Golden got. The admin forced Whipple on him. He was on the hot seat the day after he was hired. He never lost to Duke, he beat FSU. Put up one **** of a fight at Florida with a Freshman QB in 2008. Jacory lost him at least 3 games a year. He was fired after he lost to USF in OT. Golden lost to Cincy by 11 and he still has a job.
Plus he's UM through and through. Yet still he was hounded out while some here cry for El Foldo

Hate Golden and he is terrible but Shannon was worse.

Lol at you guys forgetting how bad he was with the off the field stuff

Only good thing Shannon did was win against FSU

No way he was worse than Golden. Not only did he beat FSU twice but under Golden we routinely get our a$$es beat by teams with inferior talent.

Our team also routinely quits in the 4th quarter under Golden. Under Shannon we've had several big-time 2nd half/4th quarter comebacks. We were better at getting after the QB and we also played more intense football. (we rallied to the ball better, we hit harder, we killed people on special teams, etc)

Had the EXACT same record this current dude had WHILE cheating.

Randy wasn't cheating, and the **** that was going on behind his back was actually undermining what he was trying to do as a coach. Not that I think Randy was any good as a HC, but Shapiro was hardly helping the program to win. He was hindering it.

Randy Shannon was the HC when his staff was messing with Shapiro. I didnt say HE was cheating, HIS team, HIS staff, HIS players, HIS recruits were.

He didn't have control, HIS team didn't listen to him, as the HC, he is the ultimate person responsible.

So while not involved with actually cheating, everyone knows and agrees he was against Shapiro, the benefits of HIS staff cheating, he still had the exact same record.

Shannon at least could admit that his coordinator (Nix) was garbage and got rid of him. Whipple was a nice hire. Golden has hired nobody worth a crap.

I think Kevin Beard is looking like a good hire. I even think Melvin was an "improvement" for what that's worth. But none of it will make a difference in the big picture just because of Al and D'Onofrio's presence.

I would argue that those actions hardly benefited the program. Shannon was going one way and everybody else was going another. Of course he's responsible, but the fact that other were cheating while he was here hardly made his job easier like you are inferring. It was actually a hindrance, and made the head coaches job harder.

apples to oranges. those records dont mean sht without context. lets look at those records a little closer. how many big games has folden won? at least shannon has some big wins under his belt. folden is a perennial loser against teams with winning records. we have had some the softest schedules during Foldens tenure here, and he cant manage to beat a decent team, much less win an important game. blake sets up folden with the cupcake schedule.

we used to be "anyone, anwhere" type of scheduling mentality...now we pile on the cupcakes and catch teams when they are down so we can pave Folden a nice little road to win the fkin Coastal, and he cant even do that.

not to mention that with Randy's losses we were usually in the game (sometimes INTs made the difference) and we felt good going in to those games. With Folden, we have to prepare for getting our asses pounded and mandhandled like some school girls for 60 minutes. Never feels like we have a chance with Folden, hence the bs excuses and lowering expectations to try to spin losses to mediocre teams. Nobody every tried to spin any of Randy's losses, everybody just ended up blaming him and saying he sucks. Night and day the treatment that Folden gets compared to Randy.

wow 4 pages of Cancer Versus AIDS......

Randy was ******* Horrible, and AL is a ******* nightmare.

Coker was better than both and he sucked...

The "cheating" was treating players and recruits to dinners, boat parties, pool games, gift giving all for just either coming to UM or trying to convince to come to UM.

Most of the recruits who took part in the "cheating" chose UM. It was recruits EVERYONE wanted. Isn't that why is was done in the first place? To help UM get the best recruits?

Notice "cheating" is in quotes. IMO, it happens everywhere and not even mad at it, only difference and reason I dont like it is because we got caught.

Randy and Coker were pulled hamstrings compared to the AIDS & Cancer that is Golden.
Golden is a terminal illness bringing imminent death upon the program.
With Randy & Coker the program just needed some treatment on that pulled hamstring.
Now we need chemo, but Al is a stubborn form of cancer that refuses to be treated and bringing the program closer to a certain death.

I think we are doing just as well recruiting now as then. IMHO the benefits of our cheating were negligible, while the downside of the process undermining the head coach wasn't. That's all I'm arguing.

Here is the biggest difference between the two. Shannon was poor at all areas of coaching. Golden is decent to good at everything other than the game. The program is in better shape right now, and if they hire the right coach we have a good chance to get back to the top 10.

You're crazy. The team is in worse shape than it was in 2011. Dude you realize all the NFL players Goldrn inherited? 4 NFL backs and about 6 NFL wideouts, 3 NFL tight ends, countless olinemen. We don't have half those numbers.

I disagree. Shannon had one good recruiting class. The coach who arrives in December has a better base to work from. They have better/younger talent, better facilities, and no impending NCAA penalties. The reason Golden is going is he has no excuses, he just doesn't win. Last and this years teams are talented enough to win.

One of the benefits from cheating was landing the #1 class in 08, something we have not had since.

lmao the slurpage is real. Shannon had one good recruiting class, huh? did you forget to mention that Folden's best players to date were Randy's recruits? (Dorsett, Duke, Flowers, Hurns, Walford, Chick, Feliciano, Linder, etc pretty much all of the draft picks that Golden has produced). Get real, Folden has this program at FIU levels right now.

Ill never forget. But there are worse and there are worst. I felt Shannon was plain incompetent. Golden is incompetent, yet arrogant and think he is right and everyone else is wrong.

Shannon destroyed the program he cheated and we still lost he set the program back 20 years

He did not set this program back 20 years. He left enough talent that a good coach would have been successful. Now Golden on the other hand... I just don't know... We're slow, weak, undiscipline, etc. The next coach is really going to need some time. The depth is bad on this squad.
