Hate Golden and he is terrible but Shannon was worse.

Lol at you guys forgetting how bad he was with the off the field stuff

Only good thing Shannon did was win against FSU

No way he was worse than Golden. Not only did he beat FSU twice but under Golden we routinely get our a$$es beat by teams with inferior talent.

Our team also routinely quits in the 4th quarter under Golden. Under Shannon we've had several big-time 2nd half/4th quarter comebacks. We were better at getting after the QB and we also played more intense football. (we rallied to the ball better, we hit harder, we killed people on special teams, etc)

I love these dumbass threads

Soooo whose more obese?

I just lost my appetite. Can't believe our society allows this to happen.

Will never get that picture out of my head. Never!

Argue all you want but losing to Cincy is embarrassing. I consider it one of the worst losses of Golden's career at the U. Pathetic preparation & result.

They will be a bowl team. Is a loss that shouldn't have been, but it's not like we lost to UVA again.

The only reason we haven't lost to UVA again is the fact that game is still a month or so away. Al is Mike London's beeyotch.

Shannon's biggest demise was the QB play, or maybe just the offensive play period. We at least had a pulse on special teams and defense. Right now we suck in all 3 phases of the game.

Usually when we lost a game under Shannon it was mainly do to our QB throwing 3+ interceptions.

Not saying Shannon was a great coach but he's better than Golden and it was his first HC gig.

This.

Beating FSU is all that some potatoes care about.

Randy's 2009 team was our best team of the last decade BY FAR. That 2009 team would ******* wax every team Golden has put out. If we had a QB that didn't throw a pick every 3 pass attempts we would have won 11 games, maybe more, and a BCS bowl of course.

We also didn't fold every time our games were on prime-time. Pretty sure we beat Oklahoma, FSU and slaughtered Georgia Tech during prime-time.

People forget all too quickly how recruiting and weight room work ethic got worse each season under Randy

This is based on what?

The truth. It was common knowledge players didn't have to work out under Shannon. See old quotes from Swasey alluding to as much. Look at the recruiting classes when Shannon was head coach....they progressively got worse. He didn't even bother to recruit Mat Elam at Dwyer(before it was a UF pipeline)....when Whipple found out he blew his proverbial ****. Elam was a consensus Top 50 player in the nation. This is just one small example.

And you're telling me recruiting hasn't gotten worse under Golden? LMAO. Not only did he have world class attrition his first few classes, but he also whiffed on numerous local studs. Not only whiff, but he didn't offer a few obvious takes as well.

Golden missed on so many studs this past cycle it's ******* embarrassing.

This is something I can co-sign on, as I know for a fact that they didn't work hard under Shannon.

However...

Both coaches had their own recruiting blunders. I'd still take Randy's recruiting over Golden's. At least Shannon understood that speed matters. There's no way Golden offers Sean Spence. I also don't recall Shannon having as many dead-end "evaluations" as Golden but I could be wrong.

Shannon had the 3rd ranked passing defenses in the nation with Ryan Hill, Brandon Harris and DVD taking the majority of the snaps at Corner. Our Safeties weren't exactly studs either with Jojo Nicolas and Ray-Ray Armstrong. Out of this whole unit only 2 of them have taken an NFL snap at DB. Not bad for the 3rd ranked passing defense in the entire country.

And that same year (2010) we had one of the best D-lines in the country too in terms of TFL's and Sacks. Only NFL guys on the D-line were Allen Bailey and a young Olivier Vernon.

As bad as Shannon was we have seen none of this stuff under Golden.

Yea if you look at all our losses that year I don't think I'm exaggerating if I said Jacory had about 11 picks in 4 games total in 09. I was a fan of his but he caused us a lot of games. Clemson, UNC, and VT he threw a lot of pics. Whisky was a close game that we lost. The following year OSU and ND were bad. Too be fair, the majority of Jacory pics came in like 7 games which really hurts.

They are both equal. They both were obsessed with running their defensive schemes as opposed to fitting it around the talent they had, but Shannon's actually worked to some extent.

But for all that "Shannon is a Miami guy" talk, people forget how he out and out quit recruiting the last couple of years. His last two classes were atrocious and were pretty much him being lazy and not wanting to go after guys. In spite of Golden's ******** up on SoFla recruiting, he's at least still recruiting. Granted, we'll lose a bunch of them when better offers come along.

What?? lmao no they are not equal, not even close. Folden is historically bad, arguably worst coach ever in team sports.

Both obsessed with running their defensive scheme? are you kidding me? have u actually watched UM the past 10-15 years or are u just pulling sht our ur ***? Shannon was actually a proven D-coordinator who knew what the fk he was doing with the defense. How anybody can compare Shannon's D to Folden's 500 yard a game prevent defense is beyond me. Not even close, Shannon's Defenses were 100 times better. Folden has fielded the worst defenses in UM history.

Shannon beat FSU, actually won some big games (which Folden has never come close to) and didnt lose consistently to teams we should beat.

Recruiting? The best talent Al has had here at UM have been Randy's recruits (including most recently walford, dorsett, Duke, Flowers, etc and remember he had to be talked into taking Perryman). We also had Teddy fkin Bridgewater on the way. Everybody hates on the 2008 class but they were the #1 ranked in the nation. Meanwhile Folden keeps striking out in Dade County losing out to FSU and UF and recruiting 2 star coal shovelers who belong in division 2 schools.

People love to exaggerate to boost up Folden. Shannon was actually held to certain expectations while he was here. Folden? not so much. If Folden accomplished what Shannon did he'd have a fkin lifetime contract and all the slurpers would be singing his praises. Shannon was bad as HC here, but cmon gtfoh ill take him 1000 times over al fkin golden. and with Shannon we didnt have to hear a parade of the most BS excuses you can think of after every game and be told to shut up that were too busy *****ing to see the progress after consistently getting our *** beat (oh and constantly throwing players under the bus).

fk Al Folden. got me yearning for the coker and shannon years, at least we could get excited about winning some big games once in a while. expectations when they were here were nothing like they are now. Now we make excuses for losing to fkin Cincinatti and keep hope alive for the fkin Coastal smh

They both have huge deficiencies. But in different aspects of the game. Players rarely got better under Shannon. Whether it was coaching failures on the practice field or work in the weight room or whatever, so many players regressed in their time working under Shannon. And he wasn't terribly on top of it come game day either. But Golden has kept inept asst. coaches around, and has the beaten dead horse that is his defensive scheme. Clearly he stubbornly clings to what he thinks will work in the face of all the facts. Dumb. I will say that as much as Golden cried about "the Cloud", Randy was the one who really had to deal with the most negative from the Shapiro BS. He had that prick trying to come to practices, and ******** with his players and assistant coaches. No wonder kids backslid with him.

Shannon sucked but at least their was hope going into every season. The wheels fell off in 2010, but I really thought we would make a BCS game that year. As sad as it is Golden hasnt come close to putting anything on the field as good as that 2009 team, who wasn't even that good.
