Shannon Dawson

I’m very high in Shannon Dawson. I think the offense you get this year is a perfect mix of 2024/2025 play styles. There’s gonna be times where we ground and pound teams into submission, and times where we go 4-5 wide and Air Raid them with tempo. Really just depends on who we’re playing and what their weaknesses are.
 
He has a nice playbook. And I like how he’s evolved, especially in 2nd half of the season.
He strikes me as a “feel” playcaller - and sometimes it takes him a little while to find that feel.

Whether it’s going to the same well over and over or getting too cute at other times.

But this year he has all the ingredients to do whatever and have it work. Should be exciting to watch.

Dawson has been money in the 2nd halves of games. He tends to start slow.

This year we happen to be thin at TE and loaded at WR so I guess we’ll see.

When we had ward in 2024 it also seemed like we threw the ball too much in certain situations, like if it’s 3rd and 1 I don’t mind just pounding the rock and living with the results if you don’t get it


With all that said he has been a good OC for us. The fact that we retained our coordinators on both sides is huge for this year.

Why would we throw to the bum we had at TE last year?
 
I will always love Beck but his ball placement was very inconsistent.
Between Mensah's elite ball placement and out WRs ability to create separation, Shannon is going to absolutely shine.
And just wait until he lets Mensah's audible out of a loaded box.

I did notice us not checking at the line as much compared to Beck and Ward. That was a huge part of us getting into right play and being blocked up correctly. Still alot of room for growth.
 
He’s very replacement level.
Last year we finished 14th in offense per F+. We were a bottom tier explosive team.

How much worse does anybody think the offense could have been if you replaced Dawson with a random OC?

He wasn’t asked to work miracles. The talent created a certain floor. And I would argue he coached about at that floor. His failure to scheme up explosives really killed us in our 3 losses.

You think he is currently limiting Mensah’s ability to audible out of bad callls? He let Cam do it.
 
I'm sure he has had head coach opportunities. I'd guess he is waiting for a legit job to open up instead of taking a job at a lesser school like a West Virginia or an Oklahoma State.

Or maybe he just loves it at Miami.

Regardless, if he ever leaves I hope he helps Mario and Miami pick its next OC as a parting gift. Mario has adapted offensively, and after seeing the results, I doubt he will want to go back.
