She's great for the school, horrible for the football program.
Either that or it's just the biggest coincidence of all time that since the year she started here our football program has taken a steady nosedive toward mediocrity.
You simply can't hire 3 bad coaching staffs in a row....how can someone that is so successful in other aspects of life be SOOOOOO bad at something that shouldn't take 4 times to get it right is the question I have.
At one point in time, the University of Alabama, who we can all agree cares more about football more than any university, hired the following coaches consecutively:
Mike DuBose, Dennis Franchione, Mike Price and Mike Shula.
Point being, making the correct coaching hire is a difficult thing. Miami hiring four great coaches in a row from Schnelly to Butch is almost unprecedented.
Blaming Shalala is a little misplaced. The blame falls on the athletic directors that recommended hiring Coker, Shannon and Golden. It is the job of the athletic director to do the research and recommend the best coach available to the president and board of trustees. A university president knows next to nothing about hiring a good football coach so they hire an athletic director to whom they delegate this duty. The president relies on their expertise.
Shalala should be blamed for the athletic director hires but the anger for hiring the coaches should be directed at Paul Dee and Kirby Hocutt.
