Shalala is stepping down

I am talking restrictiveness. Have you ever been there?

Clearly no restrictions on sports venues if they allowed the stadium, as Coral Gables has been abundantly clear that an on-campus stadium would be a complete non-starter not even open for discussion.

Just hope her successor can do as much academically for the school as Dr. Donna has. (Hopefully we will get someone who wants to upgrade our sports facilities and teams so they are competitive nationally again. They certainly aren't now. How about someone from Stanford? They have good teams and great academics.)

LOL. Jesus Christ. She has raised 10x the amount of money for athletics facilities upgrades than any other president. The Hecht renovation, the Schwartz addition, the Greentree renovation, private planes for recruiting, she built the ****ing BUC! Cobb, A-Rod Park... what planet do some of you live on?

A lot of these people don't really have any clue that we were playing ******* basketball games at the Miami Arena. The BUC was huge and one of the best things ever for UM athletics.

Our football facilities did lag behind, especially during the 2004-2008ish mark, but we've put a ton of energy into improving them. Under Paul Dee, our football program got a little stagnant in regards to facilities and all that. We're still catching up but we've been doing a great job over the last few years. The coaching staff is the the worst in 40 years, but the infrastructure has been improved 10 fold so whoever the next guy is won't be behind the 8 ball.

Miami Arena? How about the Knight Center lol!

I hope the next President is even half as committed to giving the football program as many resources as Shalala did. If we get another Tad Foote, this program is done.

I'll take another 5NC's as we got under Foote... Foote 5 Shalala 0

Then you'd be the destruction of the program. That's the stupidest thing I've ever read here. And that's saying something. For one, you can't count. We didn't win 5 NC's under Foote. But why would we expect you to be able to count? Secondly, Foote wanted to end the program. Did you know that? He did nothing to support it. We won in spite of him. You conclusion is so simplistic I am not sure why I am bothering to respond. Anyone with any sort of cursory understanding of UM history knows how idiotic your conclusion is.

I guess you'd take 20 more years of Obama then since we didn't get into any wars, killed Osama, and reduced the deficit. Good to know you're such a die hard liberal!

LOL, dude some of these people wish Tad Foote was still the Prez. No lie. They think he was better for UM athletics.

How many NC's did we win under Foote and how many did we win under Shalala... results matter.

It seems you don't actually know.

A university president and an AD should be constantly at odds, not chummy or, even worse, a sock puppet.

That's the way it works.

There is no causal relationship between Tad Foote and the success of University of Miami football. Foote hated the football program. Harry Melllios did a lot for the football program at a critical time. Jankovich fought with Foote during his whole tenure. Foote was also responsible for hiring the worst athletic director in the university's history, Dave Maggard. And then you have the same crew who hates the very existence of Paul Dee, who was hired by Foote. Yet, Paul successfully guided the program during the 1990s probation, hired Davis, and got the major renovation projects started. Miami won a national title in football in 2001 and won baseball national titles in 1999 and 2001. He helped get us into a stable athletic conference and negotiated a good deal at SunLife. With the major renovations scheduled for SunLife, it will be a first rate stadium. BFD that the stadium is 15 miles from campus. It's not like you got walk to the OB from the Gables.

Give up dude. These guys don't want to deal with truth or facts. They just want to spout hate against the U on a msg board. I can't wait until the first one calls Pentagon Cane a blind liberal Donna supporter lol.

LOL, bomber getting her panties in a twist. Foote hired one of the best if not the best AD this school has ever seen in Sam. Who cares if they fought and didn't see eye to eye. He didn't fire the guy and yes Foote brought 5 NC's to the school. The hires happened on his watch you moronic brain dead ****. Calling me a liberal... now that's rich. All anyone has to do is go to the wez and see you are the Obama ****.

Foote retired in June of 01 dumbass, Shalala had nothing to do with the NC we won in 01. **** you have to be one of the most moronic posters on this board.

Why let facts ruin this debate?

I suspected this might happen, since she's been strangely quiet lately and not as visible. There had to be a reason for it. Long tenure but hardly bizarre in those terms. USC recently had Steven Sample stay on the job for nearly 20 years. He was great for fundraising and also the academic reputation, along with new facilities like the Galen Center.

I remember Tad Foote, and the early '80s on-campus stadium debacle. I also remember my dad -- who earned three Miami degrees and entered as undergrad in 1951 -- telling me about previous presidents who cared even less about athletics than Foote did. My dad was thrilled with Shalala. This is indeed be careful what you wish for.

I have no doubt that Shalala hopes to join a Hillary administration in some fashion. She possibly would have left Miami some time in the past 5 years if Hillary had managed the nomination in 2008. Any Democrat was a cinch in that election, given the Bush approval ratings post-Katrina. Now the Obama approval ratings drag down Hillary's opportunity in 2016. As someone else posted, Shalala has to publicly announce plans to teach the college course, even if her highest aspirations are elsewhere. Steven Sample is now a USC professor, four years after stepping down as president.

Nevermind that Tad Foote hired great Athletic Directors and coaches. We had the winningest time in UM sports under the Tad Foote watch. But don't let the facts get in the way of whatever it is you have against the man. The treasure troll has completely destroyed our athletics programs. Not only is our football team a soft shell of what it used to be, but the once dominant baseball team is now mediocre at best.

I for one am very glad that she is leaving. Hopefully they will finally hire a president who cares about our once proud football and baseball teams once again.

As part of my internship I follow college baseball recruiting from different services... I've went over about the top 50-60 players from Florida, not one is going to Miami. Not one. UCF has far surpassed Miami in baseball recruiting.

Neither president had anything to do with anything we've won or lost. As a matter of fact, Foote hired Paul Dee, who was absolutely ridiculed around here for letting the football program go to ****. So you will eventually have to decide which way you want to spin this.

Not spinning anything. No need to. Foote made better hires from a AD perspective. He brought 5 NC's to the school from his hires. How many NC's have we won under Shalala? What has been the trend of the football program under Shalala? Has she done some good things for the school academically? **** yes with out a doubt. But to say she has been good for the football program is purely moronic and there is no basis for it. NONE!

UCF has far surpassed Miami in baseball recruiting.

That's an absolute joke and isn't even close to being true. UCF is a second tier program. You should get out there and actually experience the game and stop relying on "recruiting services" before making statements like that.

Sure there is. He hired Jankovich and Dee. One saw great success, the other saw the decline of the athletic department. But Foote only gets credit for one?

I'd take another president like Foote who hated football and had the success the Canes had with him in a heartbeat.

So you want to hire a president who hates football and just hope that we're lucky enough to repeat the 80's. Sounds like a solid plan.

I can't get over the fact that people here are lauding Thaddeus Frigging Foote!1!! SMH

It's better than what we've had. 'Lucking', as you used for some unapparent reason, into 5 titles sounds pretty good to me.
