Shalala is stepping down

Is the BUC something we are supposed to be proud of. The thing is a disaster with all those empty rows without seats.

70494404.jpg

So how is the facility a disaster? You realize the facility was built for expansion capacity to 9K, but the University's good friends in Coral Gables City Council would only approve to +7K.

Here was the conversation:

Donna: OK, here is our plan for a 16k seat on-campus stadium that will really benefit both the university and the City of Coral Gables by creating a multi-purpose entertainment facilty that will be second to none.

COCG: Jeez, I don't know. It might cause some potential traffic issues, we may have to do some studies on those intersections, but I'm sure we can come to...

Donna: Fine, we'll make it 8k. But, we can't change the plans at this point. We'll just leave cement blocks where half the seats would have been.

COCG: Wait a second, we can...

Donna: Nope, I've made up my mind. Good day.

Just hope her successor can do as much academically for the school as Dr. Donna has. (Hopefully we will get someone who wants to upgrade our sports facilities and teams so they are competitive nationally again. They certainly aren't now. How about someone from Stanford? They have good teams and great academics.)

LOL. Jesus Christ. She has raised 10x the amount of money for athletics facilities upgrades than any other president. The Hecht renovation, the Schwartz addition, the Greentree renovation, private planes for recruiting, she built the ****ing BUC! Cobb, A-Rod Park... what planet do some of you live on?

Keep spinning on this, and any other negative thing that actually hurts this university's athletic program because of your pro-Shalala obsession.

Idon't know if its that you cover for ANY university President, ANY athletic director, ANY coach, or just NEED to spin spin spin.... I have no idea. It's really inexplicable.

This f'ing president is a massive failure to everyone, except the 10% of the pro-Shalala lunatics on the far left whocan't see straight. Which of course means 90% of this board and the moderators who's sole purpose seems to be to fan the spin and preserve this embarrassment to the site, the U, the community.

Say what you will about Shalala, but that's pretty absurd.

She should have been all-in with Beckham. But no, she went with the trusty ol' hang back and wait-and-see approach that is the path of least resistance. Her modus operandi.

Everything good that happened in her tenure fell into her lap. Any president with a pulse could have grown UM the last 12 years. It's like taking candy from a baby.

How utterly stupid to try to tie this in to politics. Clearly the real reason you don't like her, and wouldn't no matter what she accomplished at the school, is that she's "on the left." That you are so blinded by your extremism doesn't change the fact that she's a highly regarded university president, she's an excellent leader and has done a fantastic job. Even others on this board who are conservatives have overlooked the political differences and acknowledged as much.

And you're a person with a hateful agenda that's a detriment to my school, our fan base, and everything the U stands for. You have no problem flip-flopping, misleading the board and yourself, and just ****ting on everything and everyone. You're part of the problem, not the solution.

Your rant makes no sense. I have a "hateful agenda"? Really? You're the one spewing hate. I'm pointing out that Shalala is highly regarded for the job she did, while you are hung up on politics. "Your" school? Sorry, my school as well, and many others...and as I stated, Shalala is highly regarded by most students and alumni. "Flip-flopping"....not sure what you are babbling about. "Misleading"...how so? "****itng on everything and everyone"? No, that would be you. You're the one with the whiny, irrational, and negative attitude backed by your willful ignorance.

But there is a political element here. See, unlike any other successful football program, THE U came from the players, was built by the players, and continued by the players. That family, or gang if you prefer, mindset came from those kids. Ok, the university hired Howard and he did the job, but what came after was the kids. Mostly black kids accomplishing something more or less on their own(compared to all the other massive booster lead and tax supported institutions). What we had was something different than what is viewed on the left with favor. Minority, discriminated against victims raising themselves above all without the government or liberal establishment's assistance. I am a right wing Southerner and many of my own where annoyed by that very fact also. To use that old racist saying, they found our players "uppity". But while annoying to those types, the example of THE U was something deadly to the left. Bunch of frigging poor kids from the inner city kicking the living crap out of the entire college football world WITHOUT government assistance! That had to be stopped. They past rule against it, their press called for death penalty, the universality proclaimed embarrassment, ncaa tried to cripple it with sanctions for university administrative scandal(Pell), and still Butch gathered more kids and it revived. Enter the cooler, Donna. She built more buildings, sure. That is institutional aid and classic left wing method, but did she let those same kids in? She shows up for photo ops but what did she do to save the second most important element of our success, the OB. She didn't. That place and those kids ruled football for two decades. Left wing ideology only permits one ruler -- them. Kids gone, OB gone.

I don't care how many building she begged money to build, under her rule THE U has been destroyed. In the words of the biggest left winger of modern times, FDR: "In politics there are no coincidences, if it happens someone planned it!" THE U destroyed and institutional football factories like Bama back in charge. Nuf Friggin said!

What "bull****"? We were "dead to rights"? On what, the NCAA issue? First of all, the transgressions were grandly oversensationalized. Second, Shalala's leadership is part of the reason we "SKATED."

Being Pro-Shalala is detrimental to the school?

Raising three billion dollars and doubling the applicants to the University is a bad thing?

Odd.

These make believe bull**** assumptions always expose who has an agenda and who doesn't.

Yes, you've got the agenda. Those aren't "bull**** assumptions" those are verifiable facts. I was at UM before Shalala's tenure. I've been back many times since, and have close contact with people still affiliated with the school, including researchers. She has done a fantastic job in improving facilities, educational resources, and the school overall. You're just whining because you don't like "liberals". If a conservative were in the position and had the same exact results you'd be fawning over him because politics are all you care about.

You're wrong, and obviously don't care about being truthful.

You keep saying, but you haven't provided a single coherent argument to support it thus far.

There is no causal relationship between Tad Foote and the success of University of Miami football. Foote hated the football program. Harry Melllios did a lot for the football program at a critical time. Jankovich fought with Foote during his whole tenure. Foote was also responsible for hiring the worst athletic director in the university's history, Dave Maggard. And then you have the same crew who hates the very existence of Paul Dee, who was hired by Foote. Yet, Paul successfully guided the program during the 1990s probation, hired Davis, and got the major renovation projects started. Miami won a national title in football in 2001 and won baseball national titles in 1999 and 2001. He helped get us into a stable athletic conference and negotiated a good deal at SunLife. With the major renovations scheduled for SunLife, it will be a first rate stadium. BFD that the stadium is 15 miles from campus. It's not like you got walk to the OB from the Gables.

Clearly by the outpouring of disdain not only on this site, but on social media posts about her resignation indicates she is not as highly regarded as you seem to think she is. She's at best a polarizing figure, and at worst a micro-managing elitist who is more worried about public perception while she and her cronies rape the University. Do a little research and see just how bad she has mismanaged a number of things on the medical campus for starters.

The outpouring of disdain on this site is primarily coming from a vocal group of whiners who far from represents the majority view.

Making absurd statements has been the entirety of his arguments to this point.

Wow, what a stupid rant. A very poor attempt at inserting your political bias into a situation that had nothing to do with politics. This statement alone paints you as a bigtime partisan hack and a loon: "Left wing ideology only permits one ruler -- them. Kids gone, OB gone."

Again, babbling. We know where Shapiro's money was coming from...and it wasn't anywhere near what he tried to portray in his desire to bring down the program. What does that have to do with Shalala?

Well, our other option could have been nothing at all. Coral Gables is one of the most restrictive, uptight cities in the nation. It has been referred to as the "City Anal Retentive." Getting agreement for any sort of new facility was a near miracle itself.

You are confusing affluence with restrictiveness. I didn't say Coral Gables was the richest and fanciest. It IS one of the most restrictive in the nation.
