Shalala is stepping down

President Shalala has done an incredible for UM, academically, raising unprescedented funds for the building campaign & was very adept in handling the NCAA issues. She is an avid athletic supporter, goes to all the games & is well liked by the student body. UM will have a VERY difficult time finding anyone as enthusiastic & capable as she is. For those posting unkind comments, you'd better hope UM doesn't go back to the days of Tad Foote.
The next President of UM will have huge shoes to fill. President Shalala elevated UM to new heights in many fields and stood up to the NCAA. I wish the athletic programs had been better for the last decade of her tenure, but her tenure was a huge success by almost every metric.

Yes, who would want to go back to a president who gave his AD autonomy to hire elite innovative football coaches, resulting in 4 rings in 10 years. Do you realize how stupid you sound???

Jimmy Johnson, Pink Erickson and Butch Davis were elite football coaches before they got to UM? Jimmy Johnson was getting his *** kicked in Stoolwater, OK every year by OU and Dr. Tom, Pink was at Washington State, and Butch was the defensive line coach for the Cowpies and had a season as their DC, IIRC.

Howard and Butch were Super Bowl winning coordinators.
Jimmy and Dennis were innovators who invented the systems they ran.

Sam Jankovich was given autonomy to find FOOTBALL guys, not baby sitters who could maintain APR scores.

Please tell me how you know this to be true.

Just curious, but did Butch's predecessor at DC for the Cowpies win a SB?

Everything here is black and white. If we don't win football games the President must suck.

Some of y'all don't get when she raised academics we lost our connection with South Florida. The community and the kids that made The U no longer could get in The U and those 5-10 kids who can't get in every year are your difference makers. This is why every Saturday we field soft *** football teams. Because choir boy scholars ain't tough!!!

Do you really believe that our football team is made up of "choir boy scholars?" I'm pretty sure that we have some of the most highly sought after football players in the country population the roster. Unfortunately, our coaching has not been very good and these players haven't developed and haven't been put in position to win games by the corches.

Have you ever heard of Stanford University? I might be wrong about this, but they have fairly high academic standards and have done fairly well on the gridiron recently.

I am pretty confident that the admissions office has admitted football players who wouldn't otherwise have been accepted to UM during President Shalala's tenure.

Stop putting porsters in their place. Thanks!

Miami has fielded soft *** teams because they've had soft *** coaches, has nothing to do with any academic standards. 5-10 "difference makers" would do nothing to change that if the same coaches are here. Plus, Miami has had more than enough talent to have better records over the past 10 years. Blaming academics is just another way to excuse poor coaching.

BREAKING: SMART KIDS ARE NOT GOOD AT FOOTBALL. ONLY DUMB KIDS FROM BAD NEIGHBORHOODS WIN GAMES

the football team sunk deeper and deeper into the ground since the first year she arrived

When I was on campus the last few years with my kid she seemed to have the the respect of the kids. She gave rousing send off the night before the UF game. Football team has a brand new, gleaming, facility under her tenure. She stood up strong to the NCAA in the Shapiro mess when it mattered.

She is politically connected and pulled good speakers and debates on campus .

Why all the racist hate ("midget" "troll") ? Maybe you don't liike Golden and hold her responsible for the hire but she was, in total, good for the school and the football program.

I dunno maybe it's bc we are in the midst of our worst athletic stretch since the mid 1970s?

Maybe not everyone wants to see Miami turn into Duke South?

Maybe we resent that she neglected funding any football related projects for over ten years, instead putting money into a basketball program?

Maybe some of us have pride in our degrees where we don't need some US News and World report to improve our self esteem??

Stanford has a bunch of future doctors on defense who will whip your *** and every non-scholar from South Florida. Quit blaming "higher standards" for everything.

And, unfortunately, that's the criteria that the dumb, motherfugging 15% will judge her by.

How, specifically, did she neglect funding any football related projects? I'm genuinely curious about this.

No. That is retarded.

Listen, we understand that she is not GM of the Football Team but President of the WHOLE SCHOOL.

With that being said, do you expect people on a Hurricane Sports Message Board (who possibly didn't attend UM) to talk about other things she did for our school?

This is not an academics board or a university at large board.

So some people will judge her solely based on football performance, regardless of whether they understand she is not GM of the Football Team.

In the end, I appreciate what she did for the school in all things but football and baseball. If she made sports more of a priority (fundraising) and brought in a real AD (to run the sports program without her hands on the hiring/firing process) then we probably wouldn't care much either way. Who cares at this point, she is stepping down.

I don't even know if she is going to touch the coaching situation if she is stepping down in less then 12 months.

So many mopes in this thread. We have the it could get worse than Shalala so we shouldn't get excited about a change mopes. Things can't get a whole lot more mediocre than its been in the AD under Shalalas watch so I'm gonna be optimistic that things will get better. Things were never gonna get better under Donna.

Now it is time to clean house with sweaty Folden and Dorito. Send these clueless fatfu.cks back to the armpit of America

The fact that we still have an operable football program after the NCAA mess is all thanks to Shalala, there's no other university president that would have stood toe to toe with the NCAA like she did and dared them to do something.

Very interested to see who they hire. Prefer they go outside. LeBlanc is the clear inside candidate I'd assume.
