We are also missing 3 of our top corners. If there was a plan to play more press man this year, it's obviously on the backburner now.

Limiting explosives and making the other team dink and dunk down the field makes a ton of sense with how explosive our offense is this year. As long as we hold teams to a low red zone TD% and protect the ball on offense it's winning football.

I’m choosing to believe it is sarcasm because otherwise…hoooo boy this guy needs to take a walk and get some fresh air. We’ve given up 6 points in 8 quarters and we’re “getting eaten up”…can’t make it up.

I hear you, but I think the defense would be getting called the same with OJ and Lucas healthy, it’s who he is as a DC.

It's a shot at the original post. People are complaining about the coverage in a game where the opponent couldn't complete a forward pass.

if you don't have the dominant guys that we lost from last year, having a "bend but don't break" defense is basically exactly what you want when your offense can create as many explosives as ours can. "we're going to create explosives and prevent you from creating explosives" is a winning formula. the concern will be if we play too loose and do end up breaking, and we just haven't played a team that can actually test that at this point. we'll learn more vs wake.

This will be a good test in regards to the secondary's communication skills. I am not worried about being out athleted, but we've shown in the past that we lose people in coverage a great deal

Heatherman ran a ton of country cover 3 last year. You just didn't notice because the pass rush blew up most snaps. Heatherman's going to send 5 or simulate pressures we haven't had to see yet once we get into conference play.

your last two sentences say it all and we KNOW there are teams that can challenge us ... there is no sneaking up on guys ... we're about to be EVERYONE's super bowl starting next friday ....

You don't think playing against 4-8 Stanford and FAMU has anything to do with this? And also, giving up 5 yards per completion is pretty effing amazing. Put it in perspective: the bottom five teams in FBS in passing yards per completion:

Missouri St. 3.75
CMU (which we play in week 4) 4.29
Marshall 5.42
Akron 5.57
Kent St. 5.64

Stanford was 5.2 vs us but against Hawaii they averaged 9.1 yards per completion.

Hold off your *****ing till at least next Friday when we play Wake. That game will reveal a lot.

**** that’s weird Heatherman barely calls Cover 2 but that’s 90% of my calls on the video game.
 
When looking at the teams we struggled against/lost to last year, they all had the combination of a really good play caller and an experienced QB. Now obviously this combo would give any DC problems, but against Heatherman's system, it allows for slow, methodical, execution-reliant, and patient play calling.

When looking back on the Louisville and Indiana games (SMU was just a weird game), our DL dominance was negated by short, quick passing against soft coverage. I believe Indiana's OC said that they just took the "free yards" we were giving them.

Now Heatherman's philosophy works very well against most teams, but the patient, disciplined OC/QB combo can take advantage of it... especially with the offense we ran last year. This year I think OCs will be pressured to keep up with our offense and not be as patient.

This is just who he is and what he does. C3 centric with sim pressures opposite the RB all day.

Yea and that offense can cause problems because it's so unusual. You have to be very disciplined with your eyes and try not to overcommitt while reacting quickly. Dunnigan and the young corners will have to play wiser than their years.
