Second back in this class

We would be better suited by continuity and using funds elsewhere.

Okay but a lot of times it isn't our choice. Alot of times the players leave because they want to.

And also we don't know what the staff thinks of the Lyles and CWH.

I could see it going either way. But if we get more attrition than Fletcher, and definitely if we lose two, I could see us either going after one of the top backs or a rotational back.

Neither is the choice of us wanting a second back or not lol. If the staff knows three players are leaving then obviously they are going to recruit another or get a portal addition. Right now, nothing says they are pressed to get another.

We know the staff loves Lyle that’s why he keeps getting snaps lol.

Last cycle, at one point, we were fighting with Wisconsin (WI commit Amari Latimer who flipped to WVU) and Nebraska (Jamal Rule) for a second back and didn’t land either of them despite having Mallory in the tuck. That’s in addition to prioritizing Derrick Cooper ahead of Mallory AND Amari’s older brother Geimere having played for Terry Jefferson at Jacksonville State (transferred to Wisconsin then WVU; has 3 forced fumbles on the year).

Still; after striking out on all 3 ‘26 backs, they didn’t go to the portal to add one and have stopped recruiting Myson Johnson-Cook and K. Spell (from what has been reported). In the ‘24 cycle, we lost Kevin Riley to Alabama and never replaced him or took two RBs in ‘25.

Taking a second HS RB isn’t going to fortify the RB position cuz it’s already fortified. Whoever it is, will have a tough time getting carries no matter what considering Mallory + Marty bare minimum and extremely unlikely event Lyle/Pringle/CWH all transfer. We would be better suited by continuity and using funds elsewhere.

Pringle wasn’t even used during the first five games of last season lol a whole lotta weeks left for the guys in the room to get carries.

Taking a portal back basically dooms Marty’s return and maligns the returning backs + incoming freshmen.
You need a stable of RBs. They get injured a lot (generally more than CBs, although this year is crazy with our CB's health).

You don't know who's coming back and you don't know if Marty will return to his previous form. Pringle, Lyle, and CWH could all leave.

IMO we need to bring in two H.S. guys and also possibly portal in someone.

Well said. Depth in RB room is critical over a long season as physical position & guys take a beating. Also, difficult knowing what we’ll have returning between potential portals & Marty’s injury status.

Marty will not be back to his previous form, everyone needs to accept that and do not count on him. If he comes close, that would be a home run, but it is not something in the foreseeable future you can count on.

"loves" is a strong word, especially at this point. Sure they've stuck with him. But the fact he got what 2-3 snaps and Mallory leap frogged him pretty quickly could mean they are starting to realize he isn't ever going to be a #3 or #4 type guy here. Obviously I'm not speaking like I know for sure on this.

That's really non-pertinent here other than it possibly contributes to needing to hit portal.

But I do agree, that if all stay besides Fletcher the chances decrease greatly that we need a portal back. But if another leaves, and especially if Brown is 70% of himself, It just doesn't seem like Lyle is doing enough and that they like CWH at all to ever be top 3 here. Obviously there's more time. But they definitely may be looking to upgrade.

Curious to see how MJC looks when he returns from injury. ESTL is holding him out until playoffs since they are running trains on their conference opponents.

Is this the 1980s?? Advances medicine have changed outlook in injuries.

Marty will be fine… he wasn’t a burner before the injury. He was a physical one cut running back who could hit the hole.

Restfully disagree with that logic— Layla is a wildcard I’m not sure his dream ever comes true- and he hasn’t done much to warrant a big fat stack of cash from some other team
Pringle- he’s outta here the day the portal opens… Katie bar the door style…

Fletcher will move in…. Cha’mar brown will be working his way back— who knows what that looks like but I love that kids fight….

So exactly why wouldn’t we fortify the RB position again????
No one can say we don’t have room for another running back when Fletcher is gone, Pringle is watching the clock tik, and brown is coming back from a serious injury. Lyle could leave. Anyone can. So I’m sure the staff will be doing what they do. They will be prepared to act. All we know is CWH looks like he can play, Mallory is a stud, keys is electric, and Brown will be back. I can see us adding 1-2 more if need be

You can't go into the season with that few number of backs. You absolutely need a portal and probably another HS back. Those guys are probably leaving. Marty is recovering from a bad injury. If you don't get alot more depth you are one injury away from real problems. College season are way too long now.

…..it’s the same number (6) of backs we went into this season with.

Again, we don’t know anything about anything regarding negotiations or who is doing what. There are 7 more games left.
