SEC Homers Mental Gymnastics: Alabama loss to FSU

How do the SEC homers justify the loss to an unranked FSU as "not that bad" to keep Alabama from dropping too far in the rankings?

Very easy, they’ll keep Alabama in the 20 range and bump the next SEC team (mizzou or whoever) up. Nothing can happen on the field that will change the narrative on the sec.

Is this a testament to FSU and their play today, or an indictment of Bama being grossly overrated?
Gotta be the latter. We all saw FSU last year. We all saw Castellanos at BC. 0.0% chance that the combo of them and him resulted in some world beater team. Alabama looked like $h!t often. Their new QB looked even worse. Bama has 7-5/8-4 (at way best) written all over them.

I also think Castellanos in the Malzahn offense is like throwing a curveball to any defense. Plus they had no reporters in camp at all so no one knew what to expect from FSU.

I think once teams see Castellanos and this offense for a few weeks it will be much easier to stop.

lol 20 range?? They’ll be no worse than 17. And ahead of fsu - that’ll be the comical part and exactly why preseason rankings are utter bull****.

Also can’t wait to see Texas stay in the top 10.

Texas, Ohio st, bama all look overrated to me. That noon game was a drag.

This. What did bama look good at?

No run game
No QB
Mediocre protection

No pass rush
Poor tackling
Undisciplined

It's the anti-Saban

So, 11 or 12 seed in the CFP. It just means more.

Fsu is better , there’s no denying that. In both trenches , qb and the OC. I had them at 7 maybe 8 wins but Bama is not good. They’ll still win games because they’re just so talented but the aura and fear aspect inside the program is gone . Even worse the fear and aura is gone outside of the program. Teams no longer fear them. Saban brought so much to the table with detail and keeping guys on edge. That’s all gone.

It’s a mix of both. FSU has big upgrades at QB and among their starters on OL and DL. Schematically, Malzahn fits their personnel. However, there were some red flags:

-That FSU secondary is BAD. Bama had 1-2 guys running open consistently. Ty Simpson just couldn’t execute. Very similar to TVD in that the plays were there but he couldn’t execute. We will carve up that secondary. Bama didn’t even know what a TE was yesterday, and we’ve got two good ones.

-Two key moments of the game were predicated off of penalties. First FSU drive gets extended by a weak penalty call. Otherwise it’s three and out with Bama ball. In the second another scoring drive for FSU gets bailed out by a weak PF call. Obviously penalties are part of the game, but they had some major luck.

-They didn’t need to make Castellanos throw at any point. That’s how you beat a Malzahn O. He had one big passing play, other than that, sailed a few.

-This is probably the worst Bama team since 2007. They’ve been on a downward trend in the trenches since 2023. They were also missing RG1 and RB1, which seems to have had an effect. FSU better on the DL but they’re thin there too.

-Bama kept falling for the eye candy and playing undisciplined football. The key to beating this O is getting them behind the sticks on first and second down. Also force Castellanos to roll left. His mobility is going to make that OL look better than it actually is. Gotta put a spy on him too.

This game yesterday reminded me a lot of our matchup against A&M in 2023. A win against a team that looks great on paper, and ends up not being very good. And a team playing as well as they can, only for obvious deficiencies later dooming them.

I have doubts that FSU, being as this as they are and as run heavy as they are on O, can stay healthy for the whole year. Also, Malzahn O’s tend to burn out as the year goes on, since teams have more film. One benefit of this game and UVA in week 4, is that we’re going to get a ton of film of Castellanos in this offense. Limit the run game, put the ball in his hands to throw, and they are DOA
