it's very simple, the time is now to start winning significantly. And by 'significantly' I mean, winning double-digit games, capturing the Coastal, etc. I believe Golden has done a very admirable job in tough circumstances and IMO( because this remains to be seen) has significantly upgraded the roster. So with that said - it's time to deliver. I'm still a believer in 'the Tie' - I've gotten over the Penn St. dalliance, can't mope about it forever - and his ability to lead a major program.

No excuses this season. This is where the real grading curve begins.

Yeah, UM has a true freshman at QB. Yeah, it's not trotting out Jerome Brown and Cortez Kennedy at DT.( Quite frankly, Im also very concerned about our kicking game) When it's all said and done, this staff has to deliver. It starts tonight

Nothing more needs to be said.

2014 in many ways is the year of reckoning for Golden.

As former Major Leaguer Tony Phillips once said,'Wins and motherf@*R#-ing losses"

I couldn't put it any better

This and next season will tell us everything we need to know about golden. They built temple and had s good D there, I think they can do that here too.

The kicking game is my biggest concern followed by the OL.

Expecting a true freshman to win 10+ games is absurd at this point.

And the fact that every kid on the roster right now was recruited with the death penalty, missing bowls and probation hanging over our head on the trail. We're still missing pieces and depth at some key positions.

Even as a "slurper", I disagree. If Kaaya cannot win 10 games right now, then he shouldn't be playing. Golden brought in a 5th year senior, he has another one who should be ready in the next couple of weeks, and a highly touted redshirt freshman. We shouldn't be looking at the QB position as a reason to fail this year.

What is your prediction for UM's record in 2014?
Barring major injuries and/or something unforeseen, what is the worst record that you would be content with? Qualify it however you like, but let's have a number.

defensive-scheme.webp Tonight this attacks, or is more of the same. We shall see...

I agree - I think the true difference makers on this team (long term) are the frosh - Golden's ONLY class without the threat of serious probation

We don't need a savior at QB, just a game manager that can distribute the ball to the play makers. Which we have plenty of.

I don't know how this team is going to perform. I have concerns about a freshman QB starting, concerns about the kicking game, concerns about quality depth at some spots, and major concerns about the type of defense we're running. The first 3 things can be fixed with time, but the last part is critical. If the defense isn't playing well, Golden is going to have to explain why he hasn't been able to adapt and respond to clearly failing strategy. All of that being said, enough pieces are in place that expectations should be high.

OMFG

So what they were recruited when we were getting negatively recruited? That doesn't make them worse players. We still brought in fringe 10 top recruiting classes.

The players we have now were specifically recruited for the system we run. No more excuses. The fact of the matter is only 1 team on our schedule clearly has a talent advantage over us and that's FSU.

Win or GTFO

If it's unfair to expect a true freshman to win 10 games, would it also be unfair to expect a coaching staff to have recruited QB in such a way so as they don't need to rely on a true freshman QB to start, in year four of their tenure?

I thought Golden was ultra adept at coaching up those two stars into viable D-1 players? Sheeit he sent Muhammad Wilkerson to the league! Dude is a big time developer of talent! But now he needs the NFC Pro Bowl roster to not be an embarrassment.

Exactly. Sounds simple, but we've lacked that since Dorsey.

I can already see the cheerleaders are hedging.

They'll be hedging all the way up to the point where he gets fired....I've come to the conclusion we're wasting our time with the "no excuses" thing. Rule #1 for the sunshine pumpers is to always give the current coaching staff an out.

The recruiting has been there, that's not the point. The point is they are *choosing* to play the true freshman, so it's not an excuse for not winning 10 or more games this year.

Not expecting a true freshman to win 10+ games isn't some excuse for Golden or however you want to frame it. Just the reality, in my opinion.

There is plenty of talent on offense, no doubt. Best case scenario is he doesn't make too many mistakes and distributes the ball effectively. Worst case, Heaps is starts is the 3rd quarter.

Recruiting at QB is a fair criticism - maybe. Prior to Williams injury I was on board with Williams starting. Kaaya was highly touted, Olsen was highly touted, there are two QBs down the pike coming in that are highly touted.

Just a ****** situation to have to start a true freshman this year. It is what it is.
