Searles and Richt's play calling created a false perception about our current OL

We need the oline to turn it around like d line once they stopped having to read and react

Wisconsin gets there starters as walk-ons. 0 Stars. So not everything is about talent and recruiting. When we played them the commentator kept mentioning how they spend all there time together and weren't just teammates on the field. Then again Wisconsin is a place with less distractions

The perception is that we don't have talented enough players to have a decent to slightly good OL. Not true.

We've recruited good talent for the OL, we just haven't trained that talent. With a new O staff, a new S&C coach and 8 months to get ready, there is no reason why our 2019 OL cannot be at least above average and consistent. With our D and playmakers on O, and with a scheme that takes all of those things into account, there's no reason for our OL to take a massive step forward this year and I predict it will.

Some truth to this. It's easy to tee off on a static inside zone run game on early downs, leading to 3rd & longs where again the defense can tee off given the predictable static mirrored switch verts slow-developing passing game.

Good OC would solve a lot of the OL issues.

We’ve recruting well enough to have a good to very good unit. Development, S&C and playcalling has made it pretty bad.

Hopefully these guys are beyond the point of replair.

I agree!

We have confirmed that coaching was bad
We have confirmed that S&C was questionable
We have confirmed that play calling was terrible

People talk about our OLine like improving these three areas won’t make a difference. An upgrade in those areas will make a significant improvement in OLine play.

Sometimes a coaching change helps this I do agree, I remember seeing anyone Jim Harbaugh went the OL transformed instantly into grown men. San Fran Stanford and Michigan the OL culture changed as soon as he arrived without any additions.

Really,have you ever been to Madison,Wisc.or is this a WAY(wild *** guess)?Wisc.
has more bars per capita than any state fueled by at least 25+breweries!

There is potential to build a very good OL. The new S&C coach needs to rebuild them and the new staff needs coach them up.

Back to basics.
The new OL coach also needs to stop subbing OLinemen in and out every drive, and switching their positions when they go back into the game.

Agreed. The massive wholesale substitutions were idiotic at best and never allowed the OL to gain any traction as far as continuity goes. That, along with **** poor technique aided by bad S&C adds up to the mess we are in at the offensive line level. Hopefully the new OL Coach is legit and well respected, and can teach them how to play as one, cohesive unit. Add greater strength and conditioning coupled with better development there’s no reason why the OL can’t take a big leap forward for the upcoming season. Also, have them practice versus the #1 DL too. Get them used to the kind of push they’ll have to face over the course of a long season. Here’s hoping Scaife works out at RT along with Kennedy at LT. If those 2 do well, then with the strength of the OL being the interior G and C, we could have the makings of a halfway decent OL that could run Enos’ offense much better than the trash that was Searles and Richt’s play calling.

Our oline was a mess and had no chance. I have to say it again we literally had 1 starting caliber tackle and our best olineman was a guard who had to play tackle so instantly our right side was a struggle and our center and lg just weren't that good.

While our oline is better than it appeared play calling has nothing to do with getting pushed around and not being physical enough to assert some dominance every solitary time were in short yardage possessions

Sorry if I offended you. But those Bars & Breweries are great for fans but not really for Athletes. Then again Offensive linemen aren't held to the same diet as most Athletes

Our interior line could be dominant. Donaldson is a beast RG, Reed could be a beast LG and Gaynor a beast C. They need to really have a great offseason... OT though has been trash. Hopefully Kennedy & Scaife are the answers.
Nothing points to Donaldson being a beast except his star ranking
