Scrimmage Updates/Post Scrimmage report livestream

A few positive notes on the event:
- saw some fans pouring brown liquor at 8am to get the day going - I approve of this and it’s proactive preparation for our move to the B1G and tailgating with northerners that can hold their booze

- Duke was walking amongst the fans for a while

- I felt it was fairly well organized

- Vernon Carey looked great. So healthy looking that our fans had no idea who he was

- Player autographs were split into 4 groups. One of the people working the event told us we go bounce between groups because Mario came in and said it was ok so fans and players got the most exposure to each other

- Mario was engaging with the fans at the session, joking about the heat and said he wants to make the stadium a real home field advantage (this was after asking me where we were from and me telling him l’ll be back in 3 weeks for the opener - and not a ticket pitch)

- the RB/DB group were all engaging and friendly, especially to the kids… Fletcher seems like a great guy.

- Flagg was there (just to trigger all you weirdos that hate the players)
Apparently the turnout was good? Which is cool seeing how we went 5-7 last year lol would love if this became bigger if we string a bunch of good seasons together

I’m going to provide this caution…. the updates in this thread are great, but if this were a game thread, it would include more of the bad plays.

Ex: first drive where TVD threw the incredible sideline pass - 2 offensive penalties and what would have been at least one sack…

Don’t overreact and buy the Kool Aid funnel and also don’t smash your glass either
Yeah too tough without watching. Like was it mental mistakes or caused by good plays on the other side? Context context.

Very encouraging to see us running the ball though. For as much BRO OFFENSE comments as were made last year I actually remember several times when Gattis just completely abandoned the run, in part because we just had such a miserable OL it was maybe impossible

Anyway. No injuries. The freshmen appear to not just belong, but appear ready to make big contributions.

LFG.

I think the people that came out enjoyed themselves and the sections they had blocked off were close to filled up…

But it’s all about an individual’s perception: an agent was there texting his folks from the agency and commented “there’s no one here” — which was “true” relative to a game

And I agree with those providing updates on the players in street clothes… the ones I paid attention to were in shorts and jerseys… walking around… almost looking for something to do… (like I belong out there, not here type of positive energy)

NOT in slings, braces, wheelchairs or played and were pulled…

The undervaluing of Parrish is because of his lack of top end speed, which people inflate the importance of.

To this day, almost no one in our fan base understands how vital vision is to an RB. It’s a force multiplier.
Parrish vision and wiggle got him more yards last year than he should have. Give him a designed hole and he's good for a first down. This line is going to look way different than last year. I cant see Lee, Cohen and Cooper getting their **** pushed in. And bring Mauigoa around to lead? We havent had a C in years that could hold a candle to Lee.

Facts. Any offense where he is a threat to use his legs, on designed QB runs, passes, and broken plays is probably more suited to his skill set. The air raid can be that offense. In fact I’m pretty sure that if he was QB1 on this team, the OC would tailor the offense to the things that he does best. The offense that we will see this year is made for TVD, and subsequently Emory Williams. Which is why Brown is openly asking for a redshirt. He knows that he must get better at throwing the ball if he is to succeed ar playing the position at the next level. Kudos to the young man for figuring this out.
Was at the scrimmage today. Last year imo Brown was looking to run (didn't have much choice) to where this year he seems to be trying to go thru his reads and at times, he held the ball for what seemed like a long time trying to get it to someone. He seemed to be pressing a lot too. Hopefully, he gets the shirt because he seems to have the work ethic and desire to be the guy. I think Dawson will get him there too.

Solid information!!!

Yes. Even to the untrained eye, he seemed “in the middle” or thinking…

- Player autographs were split into 4 groups. One of the people working the event told us we could bounce between groups because Mario came in and said it was ok so fans and players got the most exposure to each other (for further context: the RB/DB group was across from the TE/ST/Mario group)

“Northerners that can hold their booze”. Solid line

There was a time I resembled that remark and brown water was always in the laboratory.

Just looking for the the home run threat. Folks did Cam Harris the same way. Difference is we have seen the ability to make a house call. It’d be nice to be able to hit one instead of always stringing together a drive. I think we’ll see that this year.

Everyone seems to be throwing Jacurri Brown under the bus after one scrimmage.

Not always wise to do when the first game is still a few weeks away.

The scrimmage format allowed you to get a feel for the QBs.

Tyler has been there before and it shows; he's the clear starter.

Jacurri is never really in rhythm; back foot hits at the top of his drop and he doesn't know where he wants to go with the football. Now the timing of the play is off and he either presses an errant throw or improvises with his feet. Footwork is generally poor and he's unreliable when it comes to executing the offense.

Emory has huddle command and pre-snap presence to go with his feel for the position and accuracy; he'd do it a little differently, but I believe the offense could be just as successful with him as it would be with Tyler. He doesn't carry himself like an EE who arrived in January or someone competing to be Tyler's back-up; I think people are quietly in awe of how much he doesn't look like a rookie and he has everyone's attention when he's on the field.

I have been a fan of his since he committed. Ponce got caught up in the Gattass stink. But I thought of him as a smart evaluator and good coach, and Williams was his recruit. The tape flashed a ton of upside to me, just like TVD’s.

That said, I think you’re being wayyyyy too optimistic believing Williams is ready to be our QB2 and step in and win games for us if TVD goes down. The biggest risk this team faces this season is an injury to Tyler. I think the drop off would be steep. Fingers crossed we never need to run the experiment.

That’s why he is RS or will be used in limited packages. Emory will be QB2. We really need to keep TVD healthy
Kid asked to redshirt and we brought nothing in the portal to allow for this. smh.

I watched VT spring scrimmage because i was bored...and them mfers had like 5 or 6 scholly qbs. We trotting out 3 with 1 that knows his limits and asked for a shirt.

There had to be an FCS QB that wanted to step up for a chance to start here in 24 or a guy like how VT got Kyron Drones or some1 else to transfer over who lost a starting battle somewhere.
