Scrimmage tidbits from Greg McElroy

People hate on him because we live in the worst time in human recorded history, and it's inherent in 99.9% of people to be true definition haters, and just hate on everything that's more successful than you. It's an epidemic. But for those of us with an IQ above 60, McElroy is a really smart dude with detailed, nuanced analysis, really studies the game and knows the players, and is fair.

I even liked how he did his Top 10 DL list earlier this year and didn't include Miami, and everyone went nuts, and he went back and apologized and said he missed it, he made a mistake, and they should absolutely be included. Most dudes in that space have an ego way too big for that, they'd just ignore it and pretend they didn't see anything.
Yeah I like guys like him and Chase Daniel. They got to where they did because they likely studied like maniacs and learned the ins and outs

He does a good job with keeping things broad and generic but also throws in some deep dives

I’ve always felt if you can’t take complicated concepts and break them down simply, then you probably don’t know if it very well

Am I tripping or is the Olsen kicker we brought in not supposed to be really good? I could see maybe a 40 plus specialist only but seems interesting we are still looking

Just listened to McElroys podcast. He’s close with Mario and it’s interesting that the first thing he talked about was how Miami practiced 30 special teams plays and that kickers got tested from multiple distances and the specialists played well. Basically for a team that came so close last year it’s a priority. He basically said it’s unheard of to have that many special teams plays in a scrimmage.

Another benefit of a bigger IPF and a "bonus" short Greentree field...

maybe it's the doomer in me but i'm continously worried that the o-line is struggling more than state media is letting on

The dudes that played the game at an elite level are by far the best college football podcasters: McLain, McElroy, Murray, Pollack etc.

Elite at what they do IMO
These guys are all very good. Relatively young & not far removed from the game, legit players in their day & aren’t look at me types.

Everyone has their built in biases- I tend to judge them on how informed and specific they are- McElroy almost begrudgingly gives us credit when he does at all- and I’ve seen stuff this off season where he was a skeptic… and not very informed or up to date - maybe he’s gotten religion…
