SCRIMMAGE 2

LMFAO at "james coley has as good a track record as an QB coach in the country."

Ponder, Manuel and Kaaya is a pretty f'ing good track record.

Lmao no it's not

Name me 5 OC's with a better three in a row trio. Or 1. Should be easy if the thought makes you laugh right away.

EJ Manuel was a good cfb qb.. but Ponder and Kaaya were average at best with Ponder being the better between the two. Plenty of OCs have had better.

Such as...?

So Malik Rosier goes 17-25 260 yards 2 TD 1 INT vs the 1st team defense? And nobody is whinning about the defense? Interesting.

It was against the #2 defense, perry took reps against the 1s

It is nowhere near that cut and dried. All you have to do is look at the highlights and see at different points that 1s and 2s were mixed in with each other. That's the case for both sides of the ball.

It's not but that's who they primarily worked against. They weren't doing 1 vs 1s and rozier and sherrifs only worked with the 1st team so what does that tell you

Gentlemen, I stand corrected. Truth be told I think our 1st team defense is going to be balls out and the depth is decent too. Defense should be the least of our worries and I'm ecstatic to see Rosier take the reigns of this offense and be a leader. Malik was always the key to all of this. Perry is an insane talent but now he can learn and mature at his own pace which will probably be fairly quickly. Rosier isn't in Perry's league in terms of natural talent but he is talented in his own right and very capable.

The question regarding Rosier has always been if he can lock in, focus grab the bull by the horns and take the job. It appears that he has done that. Sheriffs has his limitations in terms of arm talent but he looks to be ready if called upon. He knows the offense and has leadership ability. Perry is the future and I mean near future. Perry will most likely grow by leaps and bounds with every week that goes by. It will be imperative to give Perry live game reps against teams like BCC and Ark St and so on. I think we have a solid situation at QB considering the circumstances.

Did Kaaya steal your girl or something? Really seems like he hurt your feelings.

Still pulling for shireffs, but I'd be ok with Malik. Hope Perry gets that redshirt and starts crushing life next year.

Whats up everybody. Long time lurker here. Big fan of this site, even if I never post.

Quick question for the group: what is the reasoning behind coaches pitting 1s versus 2s so much? Can someone please explain this to me, or at least point me to a thread that already does? Ive heard tons of old school Canes credit the "iron sharpens iron" philosphy of years past at the U, i.e., the idea that playing against the best everyday in practice brought out the best in them. Am I wrong in assuming that they were referring to 1s versus 1s more so than 1s versus 2s?

Thanks in advance! GO CANES!!!

I can't speak to every scrimmage scenario, but as it relates to fall practices, most of the starting lineups are already penciled in, even if coaches don't want to admit it. Usually more interested in how 2nd/3rd team players separate themselves at this point. From starters, they just want to see the meat of the playbook executed smoothly in a live setting. Probably don't want their best players injuring each other just before the dawn of the season either.

Makes sense. Thanks!

I'm glad to see both Shirreffs and Rosier stepping up. Perry will get there, but he would benefit from a redshirt.

Wait, I thought rosier transferred out after last spring because he was 6th on the depth chart! From what I've seen from our coach they coach the kids personalities. Last summer they killed pro Corn Elder in the media, he had a huge year. This year, they have consistently beat up Malik and the short yard stuff...would not be surprised if smith have a nice year playing both ways. young man looks so much better physically this year.

I actually think that's the most interesting thing left with the QB battle. Whether or not Perry redshirts. As you said before, you can't give Perry second team reps, and basically show Sheriffs or Rosier the door, if Perry hasn't earned it.

"Richt didn't want Weldon or Perry taking snaps with the 1s because he felt having QBs who knew what they were doing was best for that unit to get some consistency. I don't think he believes Perry is even ready to operate an offense against Cookman right now."

That was you yesterday. Now suddenly it's not that "cut and dried" and that 1s and 2s were mixed all scrimmage.

Do you get off on lying or are you that inherently biased that you actually believe the nonsense you post on here?

Just took a closer look at the completed passes in that clip, and most of them are from Shirreffs. Some even, oh the horror, down the field! All of them were hitting guys in stride. What an absolute scrub.

I see you calling me stupid for saying Perry wouldn't win the job hasn't made you any less prone to saying dumb crap without anything real to back it up.

Richt said yesterday that Perry and Weldon didn't run with the 1s on offense because he wanted those guys to be with QBs that knew what they were doing. If you look at the highlights, Shirreffs is with the #2 OL and Rosier is completing balls to backup WRs against Young and McCloud is on the field as well. In the Perry clips that hit twitter he's going against the #2 DL and backup LBs.

So no it wasn't straight forward 1s vs 2s and 2s vs 1s. That doesn't mean Perry got to work with the 1s. It also doesn't mean that all he saw was Shaq, McCloud, Norton and RJ McIntosh.

But enough about yesterday continue to explain to me how the game has changed and non EE true freshmen QBs are starting more and more often and Miami won't be any different.

I actually formed an opinion. All you did was parrot what you read from "insiders"

"The other two guys suck so Perry has to win it"

You make a good point. They rode the **** out of Elder before the season started. They even raised the possibility of him not starting. He responded by being probably the most productive player on defense.
