I’m sure like the rest of you, I let out a few “ugghhh” when Ball St was catching us early on those screen passes

It was a good strategy, use our aggressiveness against us etc

Fast forward to the one play in particular (I’ll have to go find it) I think Ball St was trying to hit a tunnel screen or something along those lines and every **** player on our defense stopped and waited for it

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen 11 guys stop and wait for a screen like that in any game I’ve ever watched

Those days of getting beat like a drum on the same play over and over again are dead

I said it during the game thread last night but our 2nd half defense of 2nd and 3rd stringers are probably better than any Manny Diaz defense we fielded. It’s because they’re disciplined and playing their assignments.

That goes for the whole team too. This would’ve been a 21-10 struggle fest in prior years despite being a 36 point favorite. They’ve been doing a great job of keeping their heads on their shoulders and making the needed adjustments both offensively and defensively.

I figured Ball St would get a cheap score or two in there

But also on that point, BSU was so physically dominated and beaten up they just wanted to leave by the end of the game. You could see it. It wasn’t that was with FAMU last week

17, 24, 8 had some great reps in mop up duty for sure. I’m a defensive guy at heart and the shutout made me happy

ALL HAIL LORD GUIDRY!!!!!
This dude is amazing. I knew he was a dude last year when he switched to the 3-3 stack in order to adjust for our personnel. Teams will beat him on occasion with a play, but he will adjust and he will stop the play. Watching this team is better than watching 70’s vintage movies with Harry Reems and Linda Lovelace.

Oh you’re trying to get me to bench on a Sunday?

I saw a few people mention it but that stretch where the refs tried to **** us over and we held serve was my favorite

Roughing the passer? No fumble? No problem

Ball St is a trash team for sure but things like that still stand out to me

We came out firing in the 2nd half. Cleaned up all the mistakes looked them in their eyes while we ****ed their wives.

They put Emory in and I looked at the game clock and there was still 6 mins to go in the 3rd and it felt like their HC was going to walk over and say “that’s enough” at any point.

I remember this vividly. The ENTIRE DL just immediately stopped and the entire defense murdered.

The only concern I have is the OL right now with depth but man we’ve got some things brewing there too

Frankie Tinilau is way ahead of schedule I would think. Still a long way to go there but would be a **** of an eval and feather in the cap of Mario/Mirabal is guys like him and Nino keep getting better

I have no worries about OL in the future seasons. Mario/Mirabal got us there but we definitely need our 2 starters back by VT and hopefully they remain healthy. The other nitpick is the what seems like a lack of push running between the tackles against FAMU and Ball St. We only had 20 yards rushing in the first half but that could just be us running in 8-9 man boxes.

We seem to solve that problem in the 2nd half with our adjustments and RB depth. Allen was running with his hair on fire yesterday. Looked like he was trying to show that he needs more carries.

I think against lesser teams we have a bad habit of just blitzing to pressure them vs give them different looks and we get caught a few times for cheap plays but when we play more straight up our guys have been diagnosing plays really well

This going to be a long grinding 14 to 15 game season.
Technically it looks like we are just getting done with the preseason games and are getting into the real run..

Keeping everyone healthy and focused is going to be a monumental task for the coaches... off-season work on discipline and leadership is going to reveal itself.
A lot of front running teams are going to burn out and fall apart.

Totally agree. It’s natural to just wanna destroy a lesser opponent in front of you. Like boxing or MMA that mentality can get you in trouble

After so many years of seeing us play so horribly undisciplined up front, this game was a fun one to watch

Manny Diaz where a screen or a counter meant your cheeks were getting spread

Yeah I don’t agree with people saying Dawson is just running it up the middle. I was trying to see some things yesterday and a few plays there was plenty of chances to bounce it and make a big play. Allen proved it when he got in there

We need Rivers back. Bell has a lot to like but the people that said he was a year away look like they were right

It seemed like the OL and Martinez could not get their footing on the wet field for the entire first quarter.
