Scott Patchan strikes again

Bomb is 100% correct. This place was a disaster then.

I think that kid really, really wanted to be a Cane, and was even trying to talk himself into it. When he came down for the UVA game, what happened there... well there was just no way to rationalize what he saw. I think that's why he was so upset. He wanted to be a Cane, but there was just no way to justify putting his talent (yeah, I know, he didn't work out anyway) in the hands of RS and the present situation at that time.

Who cares? Lots of kids came to The U regardless and few, if any, had the connection and motivation to come here that Matt did.

Instead, he chose to be a traitor and got shot in the *** for it. That's the least he deserved.

Don't justify that bull****.

On topic, the only Patchan to me that exists in this generation is a stud times ten.

I like him better than his brother

If he were his brothers age, and his brother was his age, I wouldn't be surprised if Matt was the Cane and Scott went elsewhere. We were a hard program to justify attending at the time. The Shannon ship was sinking.

To be perfectly honest I think it was one of those situations that we had to "lose" a kid to not land him and we did just that. I was just attempting some dead-pan humor. I love this younger Patchan kid. Can't wait to see him on the field this year. He's a beast.

That's your opinion. You many think that every kid should blindly come play for the U whether we're on probation, are allowed to go to bowl games, have a staff who can or can't develop them, I don't think that's fair While I WANT every top kid to come regardless of the situation, I understand that we have to earn their commitment. We have to be as committed to them (coaching, facilities, scheduling, training, academic mentoring) as we want them to be to us.

Since Golden signed on, so many positive changes have been made. There is a big difference.

Meh, it was more than that. I don't think the Shannon ship was sinking just yet, but it certainly didn't give great hope, not after that humiliation in the last game at the OB. And Shannon was a terrible salesman and representative of the program as HC. I know his life story was inspiring and he seemed like a decent guy who loved the U, but he was also very introverted, truculent with the media, he came across as very uneducated and poor spoken. I have no doubt many a parent sat there listening to him in their living room and said "is this guy supposed to be the brains to lead UM back"?

I will always respect Shannon for being a Cane, and for his contributions as a DC here, but honestly, if it comes down to "salesmanship" Golden vs Shannon is no contest. Golden comes across like a man with a plan, intelligent, articulate, passionate, warm, caring, Shannon may have had some of those qualities, but they did not come across at all in his public persona. That, coupled with is stubborn approach to recruiting in SoFla and the favoritism on the team, etc... is what led to the huge holes on the roster and the massive dearth of talent.

If nothing else, my hope is that Golden is rebuilding some of that talent and depth. So even if he fails as HC, he will leave the next coach SOMETHING to work with, which is more than he had.

The older brother was overrated anyway. Read his scouting report on NFL.com and he was a very mediocre pro prospect. We had better guys in the draft.
