If you are decent coach, you should be able to win at schools like UCF, SMU, Houston and SDSU. Talented kids will will be available because of amount of talent in the state. I personally think Nebraska killed itself when they joined the Big 10. They lost Texas pipeline and it was over.

Boom. This.

The University of Nebraska doesn't care about football. They care about money and the Big Ten was a big money move for them. Period. They got paid big, but lost Cornhuskers Football forever. They should've run back to the Big 12 when Oklahoma and Texas made the SEC move—going in with Cincy, UCF, BYU and Houston.

A much better fit for them than trying to recruits kids to Big Ten country and competing with the likes of Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan—and even second tier programs like Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa State, Illinois, etc.

Sounds like UM pre December 2021

Nebraska is never coming back. The only way they can is if they get a big time $$$ donor that’s willing to shell out millions on NIL. They’re in the middle of nowhere, have no direct flight to any city of significance, and have to compete with OSU, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Michigan State for the same recruits. They’ve been irrelevant longer than we have, and they don’t have the $$$ or recruiting grounds that we do.

They should honestly see if the new Big 12 will take them back. They’re not positioned to compete in the Big 10.
Nebraska has the money but admin decisions has derailed them. Mainly hiring the right HC that will bring style that sustainable for Nebraska and understand the type of kids to recruit. Frost style is like when Rich Rod was at Michigan. It just didn’t match.

I wouldn’t say they didn’t care about football but money was major factor. They were ****ed at the Big 12 for letting Texas do whatever they want(Long Horn Network), said F U and left to the Big 10. Same as A&M and Missouri left for the SEC, Colorado went to the PAC-12.

I thought the penalties were a little odd.

  • A one-year extension to the current probationary period (through April 2023).
  • A $10,000 fine.
  • A one-year show-cause order for the football head coach, plus a five-day suspension from all coaching duties during the championship segment of the 2022 football season.
  • A reduction of the number of football countable coaches by one for two days of practice during the spring 2022 season.
  • All noncoaching staff members will be removed from practice and competition for five consecutive days during the championship segment of the 2022 season.
None of that being the extension to probation will affect them period.

Imho we’re entering an age of CFB where the most competitive programs will need at the least very wealthy millionaire donors (think combined tens of millions) or outright billionaire donors to bank roll NIL’s and other resources. I don’t see those resources being available for Nebraska, if I’m mistaken on this point, please let me know (know they broke ground on a new facility recently, for example). Even if they can pull in those financial resources, I don’t see how they reach parity with other programs when they lack location, branding, or fertile recruiting grounds. The right coach can succeed anywhere, but there are four Big 10 schools that are miles ahead of them right now.

Great comparison of frost to Rich Rod. Also agree on their admin being absolutely incompetent. The Mike Reilly hire had to be one of the most puzzling I’ve ever seen a big program make. Set them back years. Frost also looked like a sure thing, but his refusal to recruit a QB and rely on the dictionary definition of average under center has cost him dearly.

In many ways they are. They’ve been irrelevant for as long as we have, and have misfired on every coach since 01. Frost was their Mario, but his refusal to recruit a QB and rely on Martinez is mind boggling. Just hasn’t worked out for him there, and probably won’t. Where they go after him is unknown. This past cycle of coaching moves was so big that any of the big established names in CFB won’t be moving around for a few years at least.

They’ll have to hire a high level P5 coordinator whose success hopefully translates to head coach, or take a chance on another G5 guy.

Who was the guy they fired for a 10 win year? Wasn't his brother caught for doing blow or something?
