But yes, people will find out soon enough. Not everything is just about making plays. It's about lining up right, rotating coverage, gap responsibility, knowing your job pre-snap.. There will be some major growing pains at LB next season.
 
Do me a favor and re visit this thread when our defense is top 5-10 next season. Oh and when the Oline improves more, we'll be a top 10 team.

Underrated post. Tweaked it slightly for you.

We get way too **** enamored with the 4-5 star skill players. They are exciting to watch and are great for bragging rights. But championships are won in the trenches.

We've gotten our &hit pushed in repeatedly over the last 15 years by bigger, stronger, more physical teams that literally own us in the trenches. Miami is at it's best when we have dominant lines.

We are not back until we can line up in a power run formation on 3rd down (letting defenses know we are going to run it) and then convert repeatedly at a high percentage rate.

Fix the lines and everything else will take care of itself.

It’s definitely possible considering the current guys we have are so bad in coverage and in space. That being said, while they are limited, I think we are taking for granted for what they have been good at and that is playing downhill. The other issue here is that while we have some decent pieces to work with, primarily Huff and Brooks, our LB recruiting has been meh at best.
 
Biggest correlation with defensive success is returning secondary production.
Weakest correlation with defensive success is returning LB production.

The defense should be at least the same if not better next season with all we return.

Sight unseen? Lol! Some of y’all are a trip. You guys are making these assumptions off HS hype and....that’s it. HS hype. We have no clue what Brooks, Huff, Steed, or Jennings can do. McCloud we have seen.

Fans also thought GHall would jump right in and be better then Redwine and it took him 7 games before he finally got comfortable.

We will miss Shaq and Pinck the first half of next season. Badly.

It’s also not true that literally *every* unit must be improved over the previous season for the defense overall to be improved.

I hope so, FIU just toyed with us.

FIU just needed to run up the middle and throw screens and we couldn't do sh*t. Back seven was a joke and DL wasn't much better
